Alien Cat is a compact puzzle-platformer developed by Repa Games and published by КиКо that thrives on simplicity while leaning heavily into retro charm. The story is minimal yet imaginative, putting players in control of a cat in a spacesuit who has awakened to save the universe from destruction. Rather than relying on cinematic cutscenes or lengthy dialogue, the game communicates its world and tone through level design and quirky mechanics. This approach gives the game a straightforward appeal that suits its old-school roots and invites players to focus entirely on the challenges in front of them. The heart of Alien Cat lies in its mechanics, which strike a careful balance between puzzle solving and precision platforming. The alien feline has a few tricks up its sleeve that set it apart from the usual hero of a retro platformer. It can walk on ceilings, push boxes to create new paths, and defeat enemies by hopping on their heads. These tools form the foundation of the thirty levels included in the game, each designed to test the player’s timing, reflexes, and problem-solving skills. Early levels provide a gentle introduction, allowing players to get used to moving between the floor and ceiling or manipulating the environment. As the game progresses, the challenges become increasingly intricate, demanding more thoughtful planning and tighter execution. Visually, the game embraces a pixel art aesthetic that feels both nostalgic and clean. The environments and characters are simple but charming, reminiscent of classic arcade-inspired platformers. Despite the limited scope of the art style, the presentation is consistent, and the clarity of design ensures that hazards, objects, and interactive elements are always easy to identify. Sound design follows a similar philosophy, offering light retro-inspired music and sound effects that complement the action without overwhelming it. This understated audiovisual package fits the game’s minimalistic structure, making the focus on mechanics even more prominent. The difficulty curve in Alien Cat is one of its defining features. While the first few levels may seem accessible, later stages demand precision and patience. The puzzles often hinge on resourceful use of the ceiling-walking ability or clever manipulation of boxes to block hazards or create stepping points. This gradual escalation keeps players engaged while encouraging mastery of the game’s mechanics. At times, however, the strictness of the platforming and the unforgiving placement of hazards can lead to frustration, especially for those less experienced with retro-style games. Still, this challenge is part of the game’s identity, appealing to those who enjoy trial-and-error learning and the satisfaction of finally clearing a tough stage. Despite its strengths, Alien Cat is not without limitations. The reliance on its core mechanics—ceiling traversal, box pushing, and enemy stomping—means that variety can feel thin as the game progresses. While the level designs attempt to keep things fresh, seasoned players may notice repetition in how challenges are structured. Yet the game is conscious of its scope and does not overstay its welcome, providing a bite-sized experience that can be completed in relatively short bursts. Given its low price point and compact format, the lack of deeper innovation is less of a drawback and more a reflection of its focused design philosophy. Alien Cat ultimately succeeds because it knows exactly what it wants to be: a small, affordable puzzle-platformer with a retro sensibility and just enough challenge to keep players hooked. It doesn’t attempt to reinvent the genre or compete with larger indie titles, but it offers a satisfying experience for those who appreciate stripped-down gameplay that rewards precision and persistence. For fans of classic arcade-style challenges, this is a delightful little gem worth exploring, and for new players dipping their toes into puzzle-platformers, it provides a simple yet rewarding introduction. Definitely recommend if you have 30-40 minutes to spare, the controls are a tad bit too sensitive and at first the game can be confusing but it didn't take very long to figure it out.

For the amount of money I paid for this game, being $0.49, I received entire minutes of joyous playtime without the interruption of any unfavorable feelings, as there was nothing in sight that could cause me displeasure. The graphics and integration of movement for this little alien cat are flawless and I feel like I have complete control over it's movements, up until the very last second that I can dodge spikes, birds, or the endless abyss that threatens to engulf me if I dare make any wrong turn. 10/10 game would buy again (I also only bought it so that I could have a Bunger profile frame on steam but that is basically irrelevant).

Super short platforming game but it's only a buck so that's alright with me. The controls are a tad sensitive but not bad enough to ruin the game. Cute little space cat just trying to get through the stages and survive. Good way to kill 20 or 30 minutes.
