Just finished the main campaign of the game. I have some thoughts. I'm going to start by saying I mostly enjoyed the game. It was fun figuring out the different fish and their aquariums. That said, there were a few things that annoyed me. First, the more minor one, there are constant grammatical errors throughout the game. The types of errors make me guess that the developers aren't native English speakers, which is perfectly fine, but having someone look it over would have been good. I would be happy to do that, honestly. My more major gripe with the game is the CONSTANT plugging of other games. Most of the side quests for clients were a plug for another game, and have you mostly doing things entirely unrelated to aquariums. One had you both build a tiki bar and dock from scratch and fix someone's yacht, and had you then build an aquarium. It felt on several of these side quests for clients like the focus was less on the aquariums and more on getting you to play one of this studio's many other simulator games. There is a reason this game is in 114 bundles on steam, and its almost all their own games, many of which have mixed or mostly negative reviews. If a list of other featured games from them was a board you could interact with once in game, I wouldn't mind as much. They had a puzzle in one location that gave you a gift and mentioned another game, that was fine. You get occasional gifts from other games, and again, that's fine. However, having major portions of quests be plugs for other games that make you spend 30 minutes building a tiki bar and dock in a game where you make and decorate aquariums is tacky, to say the least. The other part I didn't like was finding fossils. Later in the game you unlock a museum where you have a few large aquariums and some large fossils, a blue whale and three aquatic dinosaur fossils. However, you don't just buy the fossils, you go on expeditions to find them. These were incredibly tedious. The game gives you a fossil radar, but it updates so slowly it rarely picked up a fossil before I got to it or even passed it. There are probably around one hundred fossils to find, and finding the last ones was incredibly tedious. It is tied into expeditions where you go to an underwater area and photograph fish, corals, and decorations to unlock them for your tanks, which was less tedious but still annoying. The game did give you arrows to help you find the last of those, which really helped, but it didn't do that for the fossils, and I wish it had. The mechanics of the game worked well enough, I had a few bugs here and there, warnings for plants about to die in my tanks when I had no tanks in that location, placement bugs where it would go red and not let me place something saying its touching the glass when its not anywhere close to the walls or floor, and things like that, but they were very minor and didn't detract from the game experience. The last thing I will say is that I found maintaining the basement shop once you had other locations to be a bit much. I ended up selling all my tanks there and only selling items from the shelves once I had bought two other locations just to make it so I wasn't spending hours of each day replacing the decorations and plants to make the fish happy. Once you place the fish, you get a bar to see the range each is happy with for the amount of plants and decor, but it doesn't give concrete numbers, so you're doing guesswork to try to see how many will make the Discus fish happy without making another fish type in the tank sad because there are too many. Anyways, I did enjoy the game, and will likely continue playing it, but those things have definitely bugged me throughout the game.

While this is not for me, as it is EXTREMELY detailed, I do recommend it if you always wanted to own an aquarium and all the things that come with owning one but you do not have the money or time irl; this game is for you! This game is a little overwhelming for me personally; as there is too much to do for me. It felt like I actually had an aquarium I needed to take care of. You name it and you can do it in this game! Its really cool, I just personally do not care for games that this detail oriented as it gives me anxiety if I cannot get it right.

I would absolutely recommend Aquarist. It's like 10 games in one. On top of the gameplay, each area brings with it a mission to build the personal dream aquarium for someone. I do wish there were more of these missions. Are a couple of the missions adverts for their other games? Sure, but you still have a good time playing the mission and you get stuff you can use in your main aquariums, including fish and decorations. I love how big each level is. There are so many opportunities to display what feels like 100s of types of fish, including sharks, sea turtles, and jellyfish. With the developer actively adding more! There's enough realism to keep casual simmers hooked, pun intended. You have to adjust the pH level of the water, clean the tanks, and create little (and massive) aquarium homes for all types of fish. As you progress, you unlock more decorations and fish types. Make sure your plants can survive at the same temp as your fishes! And the graphics! I can't say much about the people. They are pretty generic models with generic stiff-legged animations, but they make up for that by having quite a few distinct customers who come into your store. And their outfits always make me chuckle, but it keeps it interesting. But these fish? So realistic. I am terrified of sharks and they are so real in this game, I had my partner make sure they didn't react before I hopped in the water. You heard me right - hopped in the water. If you love the serene underwater world and have always wanted to explore some, this is the game for you, too. Now let's talk about the devs for a moment. I am not a person to browse steam forums for answers. But for this game? I go nowhere else. The devs are hands down the most responsive and active dev team I've ever experienced. They respond everywhere, helping people play their game, giving hints, taking feedback like never seen before. They've even implemented suggestions from their players! To sum it up: The game is fun, the DLCs are inexpensive for the amount of content you get and worth it if you don't own another game of theirs that already unlocks it (owning Aquatic Store Simulator unlocks the Aquatic Supermarket DLC - no paying twice to play both games in one convenient place), the devs are amazing, and the community has been great. 10/10 recommend
