Here I thought I was done with CYOA (Choose Your Own Adventure) titles, seeing as most of them don't make me feel anything anymore or even keep my interest past a few pages. But then I saw this and........ It made me remember what "feels" are. Not only I didn't skim read parts... I RE-READ THEM. Finally! A game for a Diplomat like me. XD I also thought I wasn't interested in political stuff, but... This book made it all intriguing and appealing. Choices made a difference and guess what? This book doesn't come with 3 million stats that you don't understand how to manage! It's concise/direct/just right. Okay, I was holding myself back for this part... Because I had to calm down first. It's this one guy in the story... Stanislas...! How... After going through his route/Epilogue (although it was Minor!)... Do you... Expect me to read about any other love interests?!?! At first all I heard was "black hair", but then Nathaniel has black hair... But that guy was way too weird and off the charts for me. Stanislas though? Sigh........ I think I have a problem. This character is far too good. Oh yeah, the story is great! I enjoyed it and every choice I made felt natural. But let's face it: Stanislas stole the show. Uhm... It's best I leave it at that... Because... It'll be for the best this way... :stanislas: ------------------------------------------------------- To the writer/Developer I say: YOU ARE AWESOME! Your story/characters are awesome and I can't stop thinking about it! Thank you for making me want to read again and...! I see there is a second Arcadie coming out and I see there will be more of Stanislas presence, so............ I will do something that I usually only do for the special type of games and buy it the moment it comes out. You earned it. More than. And I am fully aware that not only the writer was involved in this project, so thank you to all of you as well! (P.S. Thanks you for the Rewind button and Saves!) :stanislas:

It’s not every day that I’m so hooked on a game that I have to finish it in a single day, but that’s definitely what happened with Arcadie. Cannot wait for more!!

Entertaining! This is a relatively short Twine game. I only played through it once, at time of writing, so I am unsure about how diverse the games options and potential different endings are. The game feels quite linear, at least on the track that I went. It also doesn't REALLY have a lot of variety. You can tell that the authors were very aware of the story they wanted to tell, and were quite direct in attempting to tell it. At the same time, however, I was able to play my character in a way that suited my preferred choices. I wish there was more feedback on my choices. For instance, I went for a bratty and playful character, and beyond a line or two of dialogue in reply to rowdy statements, nobody really reacted long-term to my choices to be saucy and immature. The same goes for all other decisions made throughout the game. I made an awful lot of decisions, but because I didn't really see any feedback on my choices or what they did, I don't know if they were actually meaningful, or meaningfully changed anything, or were otherwise just "illusion of choice." If it was all just for roleplaying purposes, that's fine, I enjoyed it. But it's weird to have percentage gauges for roleplay choices; why pretend personal choices have mechanical effects? That's the bad news: this Twine game is not particularly good at being a "game." How is it as a story? Fortunately, it's pretty fun! I like the fantasy theming, and the writing is good and competent. I wish the magic system was more well developed. And I almost yearn for the story to be a little longer. But what I got was nice enough. I enjoy the framing of being the "second born" in a royal line, as it leads you to make decisions that seem self-serving and selfish, but become slightly consequential later. Also, the narrative is great at throwing twists. Every time there was a twist, I was pleasantly surprised by the direction it was taking the story. If there were any complaint, it's that some of the romance options are very heavy handed; however, that complaint is so mild, it's hardly worth mentioning. It's also nice that, regarding romance, lewd scenes are always gated behind a "fade-to-black" command, so if you want a PG-friendly experience, you don't have to witness the characters getting frisky. All in all, this was well made and competent. It's an interesting and entertaining choose-your-own-adventure, and definitely worth the admission, despite its brevity.

I remember feeling gutted to the core when I first read the demo and vowed myself to read the full story—gladly the time has come. I enjoyed the story thoroughly. At first, I feel like a lot of the options are too 'leading towards certain character archetype'. But it was not that linear after all, at least from my own discovery. I certainly will replay this over and over again, trying different routes. This was a great journey. I love it so so much. The prose, the way the story flowed, it was nice. Not too hurried, not too long. Even though I have a lot of questions still... I sure hope it's something we will discover on the second part? Perhaps anything regarding the injected blood... :)

I give the game thumbs up, because I've had a satisfying experience during my playthrough. It didn't bore me or make me cringe (except for some...romantic descriptions), which is definitely a feat nowadays. The story felt complete, leaving me with a feeling that my decisions paid off. But I went into it without expectations, never having played this type of games before. The writing is simple, and some sentences are badly structured. I do wish it were a bit more descriptive, because it was all I had to rely on for immersion. But the dialogues are decent, and I appreciate the effort to write romance for males. Don't know about the other guys, but the brooding commander had a classical romance story. While some of my choices definitely played a role, I wasn't able to change the core event in the end. It could have been interesting to see more drastic story consequences of my decisions. After all, this is a text game, so it should be easier to lean into player choice. Some aspects of the lore seem to be inconsistent too, but I may have misunderstood. In the beginning, I was told that the monarch always has the last word, no matter what the council decides. But later in the story, my character is not openly challenged but can seemingly be dethroned by the same council. Then, the "force" is supposed to be extremely rare, and yet the rooms are being lit by it? Even though I could question things, it was impossible to go into detail ahead of big events -- the peacekeeping group seemed to function on their own, with me having to just trust them. TLDR; It's a decent game, somewhat on the shorter side, that gives you an entertaining experience but doesn't go too deeply into the lore or political intricacies. In other words, some light reading with heart-warming romance (just be prepared for some cheese that will clog your arteries, like "he smelled of rain").
