It's an enjoyable game, I did have to restart it a couple of times as I learned the mechanics. I do wish we could delete/move buildings and edit the numbers, I definitely had to do a lot of planning for the layout of the rooms. I wanted room types to be together in a row but whatever you build gets the next number in the sequence, it did help a little bit that igloos melt outside of winter which opened up their numbers in the sequence. Also the furnace took some getting used to, dumping a large amount of material doesn't make it burn longer, it's a 24hr run regardless, 8-12 wood or 3-5 coal is enough for a 24hr run. I do enjoy the fishing and hunting mechanic though, extremely simple, the nicest fishing mechanic I have ever encountered in a video game, all 4 animals you can hunt have their own unique animations for walking, running away, avoiding and even hiding (for the bunny) i find that to be really nice, although loosing sight of them in the snow mechanic is a pain. The progress objective can disappear when a temporary boost comes up but usually comes back when the boost expires, that's a bit of a pain. All in all I like it, you might have to start over a time or two like I did as you get used to the mechanics and decide on how you want to run things (unless you are a chaos goblin) I do wish a few mechanics were expanded on but it has definitely been better than other games.
If you're tired of generic sims, Arctic Motel Simulator is actually better than most, providing a solid hook and plenty of tasks to keep you busy through the midpoint. The inclusion of bounty hunting and specialized services shows real creativity, but the game unfortunately fails to dive deep into these mechanics, leaving them feeling like surface-level additions. As you reach the late game, the variety disappears in favor of a tedious grind that highlights the game's biggest flaw: it feels like five disparate simulator games glued together rather than a singular, focused experience. It’s a great concept that just needs more depth to prevent its best ideas from feeling spread too thin.
