Recommended This could be a good purchase if you’re looking for a casual, chill mini-game. Perfect for a few hours of play on a random day—especially if you’ve got a stream or YouTube on a second monitor. Once you upgrade your towers, the game practically plays itself! It’s fairly priced for the experience, but don’t expect to be playing it for many days—it’s a one-day, fun, repetitive survivor-style game. Overall, a good and relaxing experience.

The demo played just fine the game itself is not more than the demo. It has several issues that really made it an unpleasant experience: 1. the control scheme is fixed and you cannot change it. 2. the grinding is tedious and the upgrade results are minimal, almost unnoticeable. 3. the fact that the weapons have little impact is not helping bringing in the fun factor. 4. The long recharge times and lack of auto aiming is quite annoying. It can be partially mitigated with certain upgrades 5. the fact that if you choose not to held the weapon pressed you will always make random choices when you level up because the frantic clicking will press one of the choices, really poor game design. If the game would be further refined maybe is worth buying it with a massive discount , like i did. Otherwise there are plenty of fun games to play.

Astro Looter: Survivor is a fast-paced, top-down survival shooter that manages to blend several genre mechanics into a tight and surprisingly engaging gameplay loop. From the very first drop onto an alien planet, the game makes its intentions clear—you are outnumbered, under constant pressure, and armed only with what you can gather, build, and adapt to. It’s a roguelike at heart, but instead of throwing you into random dungeons, it drops you into hostile planets teeming with insectoid enemies, mineral-rich environments, and the ever-present need to balance offense with survival. Each mission is a gauntlet of aggressive waves, frantic mining, and on-the-fly tower defense decisions. What immediately stands out about Astro Looter: Survivor is how confidently it fuses its mechanics. It’s not just about shooting hordes of enemies or gathering loot—it’s also about smart positioning, timing your tower placements, and making critical upgrades under pressure. You control a variety of heroes with different special abilities, such as a storm-wielding commando or a colonel with aerial strikes, each offering a slightly different way to approach combat. While you’re dodging enemy swarms, you’re also collecting resources scattered throughout the map to build and upgrade orbital defense towers—each of which brings a strategic layer to the moment-to-moment chaos. This blend of active combat and passive defense encourages tactical thinking and makes every run feel like a puzzle you’re solving in real-time. The visual design complements the gameplay’s intensity, though it does come with a few caveats. Environments range from lush jungles to alien deserts, with enough variety to keep the planets feeling distinct. The action can sometimes overwhelm the screen, however, especially when bloom effects or visual clutter obscure key threats. Enemy animations and certain VFX still feel a bit unpolished, but they don’t detract significantly from the experience. In fact, they underscore the game’s indie charm—this is clearly a project driven more by mechanical ambition than aesthetic finesse, and for the most part, it works. Despite its relatively small file size and minimalist presentation, the core loop is addictive, and the feedback of your actions—whether blasting through waves or watching your turrets cut down dozens of enemies—is satisfying and weighty. Progression in Astro Looter is largely run-based, with roguelike elements giving each attempt a sense of purpose even if you fail. As you gather minerals and survive longer, you unlock random skill cards that enhance your abilities—ranging from explosive damage modifiers to orbital laser strikes. These upgrades can drastically change your strategy mid-run and are essential for surviving the game’s escalating difficulty. Surviving even the early missions can be a serious challenge, and many players will likely fail multiple times before finding a viable rhythm. This makes victories feel genuinely earned, and the stakes of each decision—where to build, when to push forward, which upgrades to choose—feel meaningful rather than arbitrary. That said, the game’s difficulty curve might be a barrier for more casual players. Even the tutorial mission doesn’t pull its punches, and without a co-op or multiplayer mode, the experience can feel isolating during longer, more punishing runs. Some players might also feel that the content is thin at launch, especially if they’re used to deeper metagame systems or story elements. While there are five distinct planets, each with its own biome and enemy types, the structure of each run can start to feel familiar after several hours. However, the developers have shown a strong foundation for future expansion, and it’s easy to imagine new modes, enemy factions, or deeper hero customization filling out the experience in time. Astro Looter: Survivor may not have the budget or polish of some of its bigger genre competitors, but it more than makes up for it with its creativity, pace, and strategic depth. It’s the kind of game that respects the player’s time, throws them into the action without excessive handholding, and trusts them to figure things out through trial and error. There’s a tangible sense of progress each time you survive just a little longer, mine a little more, or place your towers in smarter ways. That learning curve, while steep, is part of what makes it so rewarding. The game may still be in its early stages, but it already offers a compelling and addictive gameplay loop that’s worth the price of entry for fans of roguelikes, survival shooters, and tower defense hybrids. If you’re looking for something that challenges both your reflexes and your strategic thinking, Astro Looter: Survivor is well worth your attention. Rating: 7/10

The negative reviews for this game are a bit odd. I don't know why you would want auto fire when you can overheat your weapons at the start. Some reviews seem like people were expecting to play a different game. Issues I've encountered: -Invisible walls (Random but not often) -Frame rate drops when there is alot going on -Screen doesn't fit properly in relation to my monitor no matter what setting I switch to, so a small bit is cut off in the main menu Lower priority issue -Power ups pop up on the screen in a way that might cause you to accidentally select one you don't want Positives of the game: -Its fun and simple -The design of the the suits reminds me of that old sci-fi look similar to quake -Planet, enemy, weapon, and class variety -Power ups are cool -Quick and easy to unlock new things
