Old Soul https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3603119458 There will be a TL;DR at the end. ~ There’s not much to this game to review: You start with 1 gun and must eliminate a set number of enemy troops as they respawn infinitely - each round you get points to either repair your bunker, unlock new turrets, or lay traps. You start with a cruddy Maxim that is reliable albeit slow. You venture to the frightening rebuttal of the MG40 that deals more damage at the cost of a longer reload, then you get the little tank turrets that are slow and questionably accurate but can deal with vehicles up close, and finally you get the end-all flack cannon that can blow up anything but turns and reloads slowly. You will be fighting the same enemies: landing craft filled with guys, parachute guys, airplanes, and some boats. There’s a little variety here and there but nothing really stands out. What really sets this apart from other titles is just what Beach Invasion 1944 is and how it is. On the matter of what the game is - it’s a glorified FLASH game. There really used to be tons and tons of nameless, long-forgotten experiences just like this one: it’s generally simple in concept, easy in execution, has a streamlined gameplay loop, upgrades, slowly ramping difficulty. In 2010 these things were a dime a dozen. I’m not saying “no” to Beach Invasion 1944 for these reasons - I happen to have nostalgia for the formula and we don’t see many simple little ‘games’ like this around anymore. It’s just strange - surreal even - to witness modern graphics and generally “alright” 3D assets and effects being used to display what amounts to be a slightly higher budget “Armor Games” title. On the matter of how the game is - it also belongs in the 2000’s (or opening years of 2010’s) due to its nature. Sure we are all used to blasting away ne’r-do-well German soldiers, because the entire planet has come to accept that the Nazi regime was pure satan-on-the-bottle evil . We’ve also come into a culture where the thought of glorifying or even entertaining notions of “being the bad guy” can give off extremely discomforting signals; in 2025 you’re just not going to get grace when making a videogame about shooting brave Allied soldiers as a Nazi soldier. That’s the kind of thing we might have seen floating around a generation ago, but it’s very strange to see today. Between this being a glorified Flash game, and also having the edginess of the early 2000’s - it kinda feels like a product trapped outside of its time. Is it fun? Eh. Sorta! It’s not mind bogglingly great or anything, but it is a pleasantly innocent tumble to juggle different weapons and stack mines on top of mines across the beachhead. Truth be told - it gets old very fast. I could have sworn I played this game to death three times over - and I haven’t even reached the 2 hour mark. Steam itself believes this product is refundable after reaching my maximum enjoyment level with the game… more than twice! You may load it up every once in awhile to get a few minutes of mindless fiddling out of the way, but it’s not really worth the asking price. Get it on deep sale - or get a 99% off coupon or something - this is the kinda stuff we all used to play on the internet for FREE It’s good - but it’s more like “half of a 3 Musketeers bar” good - where the other half went to the mom tax. It’s sweet, yes - but it’s also fluffy, unsubstantial, you don’t get enough, and why the hell didn’t you get a Resse’s instead? ~ TL;DR 5.5/10 Beach Invasion 1944 is a Competent game. It does exactly what it says on the tin and nothing more. It isn’t bad by any means and can even be addicting in a silly way, just know that it isn’t worth more than an hour of your time - and certainly isn’t worth buying at full price.

Pros: - Best game of its kind. There's nothing like it. - Excellent balance of realism and simplicity for maximum satisfaction. - Intuitive mechanics that are easy to jump into and that don't require a tutorial. Cons: - Annoying slow-mo whenever you destroy a plane or tank. At least give us the option to disable this feature. - The bonuses are arcade-like and reduce from the realism/immersion. Please give us the option to disable this too. - Please update/fix the Arabic version of the game - the translation could be better. Thank you.

It's a simple game and there isn't a lot to it. defend your beach from various positions against waves of enemies. I like the transition animation when you move from turret to turret. I think that helps visualize where you are on the beach. There are things people could be nitpicky about, but when it's on sale for under $5 and you want a time sink that plays like the arcade defense shooters of ye olden times but with updated graphics, then it is very hard to say no.
