Recommended almost solely because it's a fun concept and a fair deal for the $10 price. However, I want to provide a mild warning against being misled by the hype. Truthfully, there's not much "game" there. Instead of being one full game, there's rather ~6 scenarios which you select to go on "runs", similar to a rogue-like. There's mild variation every time you play a level, such as items being in different locations and rooms being rearranged, but no real progression or reason for repeated playthroughs besides mastering each of the difficulty tiers. And make no mistake, the challenge is certainly present even for an experienced typist. The trailers kind of undersold the difficulty a bit, you're typically not going to face off against a crowd of zombies and last very long, especially on the higher difficulties. I've played all but the final scenario, and despite a few new mechanics and different loot on each level, the objective to beat it remains the same. While reminiscent of classic survival horror in the micro-experience (conserving resources, picking your battles, plotting your course through a sprawling map), the macro left me feeling a bit underwhelmed, as my friend and I will likely shelve this game once we've beaten the final scenario. There is a little in the way of an overarching story, but only in the form of notes scattered around the levels, and since time is precious and they never have anything to do with the objective of the level, you're honestly better off just skipping them. The concept carries this game quite far, and it is a fantastic concept. But I would have personally preferred a more expansive, even if more expensive, version of what we have.

I'm a typing game enthusiast (100~ wpm 💪🤓), and for the longest time I thought that no typing game could compare to Typing of the Dead until I gave Blood Typers a try. It really innovates on a genre that's long been flooded by "Mavis Beacon"-likes by uniquely blending beloved mechanics from different genres! Movement, inventory management, combat, and environmental mechanics are all handled by the keyboard alone. You switch between exploration and combat contexts and move your character tank-controls style. While awkward at first (especially the combat/exploration context switching), the whole system grows on you quickly, and the first mission gives you ample opportunity to learn the ropes before tossing you into a horde of zombies. It's hard to put into text how well Outer Brain Studios executes on this fusion until you give it a try yourself, so do yourself a favor and give the demo a try! Unfortunately the demo doesn't let you play online, but I think your friends will be convinced if you stream yourself fumbling the keyboard. As an online co-op game, it's very competent in delivering on the horror w/ friends gameplay that Lethal Company and others have popularized, and as others have said, there's good fun to be had solving puzzles, managing your inventory, and fighting zombies Resident Evil-style while yelling at your friends over VOIP. Disclaimer: I had some trouble getting VOIP to work (2 of us had it working immediately, I had to switch to a different mic to get anything, another friend couldn't get through at all) so for my time playing we just used Discord. There's multiple difficulty options, 8 unique characters, and 4 playable scenarios (levels) w/ more on the way so there's a good bit of content to sink your fingers into. Enemy variety is a little lacking at the moment (or maybe I haven't seen them all just yet), but the varied weapons keep combat encounters interesting. I've only tried the first scenario so far, but I look forward to playing this game with the boys well into the future! (This is me granting permission to release paid DLC for additional content.) I'm a little let down that the game doesn't have you typing proper sentences, especially in the computer segments where you type long strings of texts. I think it's a missed opportunity to feed the player interesting passages to type/read through, though their word bank at least includes many keywords relevant to the game's context. Finally, my one request would be for the devs to let us add custom word-lists, something like what Typing of the Dead: Overkill did.

This is literally Typing of the Dead gameplay with the structure of Resident Evil Outbreak, and I'm here for it. I also believe the game should be played with friends, as playing by yourself less fun, especially if you're experienced in Classic Survival Horror games. I hope there's more content to come like more scenarios and maybe another character or two. Very solid 8/10

Play the demo. No description or video can fully show how well this game works. I never would have expected such an intense and entertaining experience based around typing. I had my doubts but I gave the demo a shot and fell in love! Absolutely thrilling way to practice your typing.
