I'm 53% through the game, and I think I'm finally ready to give up. Can of Wormholes is just too difficult for me, and there's no shame in admitting that I'll never finish it. And that's after I already saw a playthrough of the game some time after release. However, for the time I've spent on it, I must say that I enjoyed the game quite a bit. It's a sokoban puzzle game, meaning that you're on a grid, and you move and push things to solve puzzles. That's the basic premise. But soon enough, Can of Wormholes shows you the intricacies of its systems, teaching you new mechanics without ever telling you anything more than the buttons for move, and undo. I can't stress enough what a great job Can of Wormholes does at teaching the player without ever (noticeably) holding their hand. You never get explained just how things will go, you just have to learn by doing. This is great for making you feel smart, but unfortunately, it does also have its drawbacks. The main one being that, if you get stuck, you can be really stuck. Luckily, the game has one of the best hint systems I've ever seen, however, in the cases where the hints do not help you along - either because you already knew what the hint was trying to tell you, or because you don't know how to get to the 'catch' that the hint was trying to explain - you might be struggling for a long time. Sometimes, you find the solution after a long time of thinking it over. I've come back to puzzles on a different day after brainstorming solutions in my dreams. Or puzzles that I really have to wrack my brain for. Or even puzzles where I've figured out the first stage of the puzzle, only to be met with the same exact problem in the second stage, to then figure out that second stage too. All of those possibilities feel pretty good. Other times though, you just feel stuck, and stumble into the solution after a bunch of trial and error. I would say these happen less often than the other kind, but it's very noticeable when they do happen. And since there's a pretty big increase in difficulty over time, I started noticing my puzzles take longer and longer, and lately, it takes me 30 minutes just to do a puzzle. In those play sessions, I did eventually figure out the solutions to these puzzles, so I could probably continue onwards for at least a bit longer, but this was about my limit for what I'm willing to endure. Still, that was 11 hours of enjoyment, so I definitely do not feel like I wasted my money. One thing that should be noted for Can of Wormholes, something that might not matter for everyone, but definitely does for me, is that it has a lot of 'meta puzzles'. Puzzles in which you might need to do something in the overworld to change a certain puzzle element or whatever. The most obvious of these being changing the orientation of rooms, but there's plenty of other examples, such as hidden extra ways to solve earlier puzzles using mechanics introduced to you later. And I'll be honest, in general, I kind of hate meta puzzles. Well, that's not entirely true. I don't mind meta puzzles, I just hate meta puzzles that aren't hidden. The ones that taunt you with "Oh, there's a puzzle here, you can clearly see it, but you can't access/solve it, can you? You little idiot. Hah. You're truly pathetic." Those, I really hate. And while Can of Wormholes has plenty of the former, hidden meta puzzles that don't bother me, it also has enough of the latter, taunting meta puzzles that really irk me. Enough that I would consider it a mark against the game. However, it's not enough for me to not recommend this game. In general, if someone - who knows puzzle games - asks me what Can of Wormholes is like, I would tell them that it's like Baba is You, but without the messiness. (Baba is You is a great game, but some levels really have too many moving parts to be enjoyable, in my opinion.) I will say, to any prospective buyers, Can of Wormholes is a difficult game, and I think it's best enjoyed by knowing your own limits. Maybe you're really good at puzzle games, and CoW is exactly what you're looking for, But if you're like me, then there's no shame in admitting defeat, and ending your playthrough before you start to hate the game.

I did not fully finish Can of Wormholes - I'm just not smart enough :( - but it's good! Most of the puzzles consist of moving a small worm-like creature into it's hole. Along the way the mechanics change and there are some very interesting twists and turns that allow you to change the length, direction and movement of your own worm and other worm structures in the puzzles. It's very clever and the game maintains a good difficulty for most of the game. Towards the end, the game adds a few meta puzzles that I think are still mostly fair, but add a bit of the usual "how do I even achieve this" frustration and can be annoying to set up, which is why I was happy to skip most of that (and part of it is that I'm not smart, so your mileage may vary). The actual puzzling is very good though and the game maintains a good level of creativity without becoming too overbearing - a definite recommendation.

Far from finished, but this is a wonderful puzzle game. Challenging, but with an excellent hint system. Edit: Now that I'm finished, I'm absolutely blown away. Definitely a banger.

If your favorite puzzle game is Stephen's Sausage Roll like me, you'll love how this game mirrors that design style. I've always believed that simple mechanics that lead to simple (yet complex) puzzle design is the way to create a good puzzle game, and Can of Wormholes perfectly encapsulates that. 100% took me 23.3 hours, at full price it's a solid recommendation. Any chance for a soundtrack release?

This game should have more attention. It's incredibly well made and clearly a colossal amount of work went into the puzzle design. The constant stream of new mechanics in every puzzle is super rewarding. The "gain insight" feature is something I've never seen before in a puzzle game, and it's woven very tightly into the mechanics of the game. I wish more people knew about this game.
