Candle is one of those cosy indie adventures that feels more like sitting down with a storybook than suiting up for battle. There’s no shooting, no high octane combat, and definitely no blood spillage... just gentle puzzles, exploration, and a charming world built around light and colour. The core mechanic revolves around restoring lost light to a fractured land using magical candles, and it’s surprisingly satisfying. Each area feels like its own little tableau, with simple puzzles that encourage observation and curiosity rather than reflexes or brute force. It’s the kind of game that doesn’t try to stress you out! The challenge comes from creative thinking and appreciating the peaceful pace. The lack of replay incentive after finishing the story is noticeable; once you’ve lit all the candles, the world has told you its tale and politely asks if you’d like to try something else. That’s fine for a short, sweet experience, but it means Candle lives and dies by its atmosphere and initial charm. Fortunately, both are strong enough to make the journey worthwhile. Great for kids. 7/10.

Great platforming adventure with really creative mechanics and puzzles. The hand-drawn art style is gorgeous, it makes its unique world truly shine. Some puzzles can be very challenging, with a bunch being a little obtuse, but overall is an extremely enjoyable experience. I LOVED the Spanish narration! I really recommend playing it in this language if you can understand it.

Candle: The Power of the Flame is a quiet, atmospheric puzzle-platformer that trusts mood and symbolism more than words. It doesn’t rush you. It doesn’t shout. It asks you to slow down, pay attention, and respect fragility. You play as Teku, a young boy carrying a candle whose flame is both your guide and your greatest weakness. Light is life here — and every step forward risks extinguishing it. Wind, water, enemies, even your own impatience can undo you. That single mechanic defines the entire experience. Gameplay & Mechanics Puzzles are environmental and deliberate. Nothing is fast, nothing is forgiving. Trial and error is part of the design, but not in a cruel way — more like a ritual. You learn by failing, and every success feels earned, not given. Art & Atmosphere Visually, Candle is its strongest self. Hand-painted backgrounds, warm colors, and soft lighting create a storybook world that feels ancient and fragile. It’s beautiful without being flashy. The soundtrack quietly supports the emotion rather than leading it. Narrative & Themes The story is minimal, almost whispered. Themes of oppression, resilience, and hope are present, but never spelled out. Candle respects the player enough to let meaning emerge naturally. What Works Unique candle mechanic that shapes everything Hand-painted art with strong identity Calm, melancholic atmosphere Thoughtful, non-verbal storytelling What Doesn’t Slow pacing may frustrate some players Controls can feel stiff at times Repetition in later puzzles Overall Candle isn’t for everyone — and it doesn’t try to be. It’s for players who value mood over action, patience over power, and symbolism over spectacle. It burns softly. And when it goes out, you feel it. Verdict: A delicate, memorable indie experience that rewards patience and attention.

Candle is one of those indie titles that immediately catches your eye with its unique art style and that’s no accident. Every scene looks like it was painted by hand, because it was. The watercolor backdrops and animated details give the game a living, storybook quality that sets it apart from almost anything else in the genre. At its core, Candle is a mix of platforming, puzzle-solving and classic adventure mechanics. You play as Teku, a young hero armed with a literal candle for a hand, using its flame to solve environmental challenges and outwit enemies. The concept is charming and the flame mechanic adds personality and tension to what could otherwise be standard platform-adventure fare. The puzzles are clever and varied, often requiring observation and experimentation rather than brute force. That said, the game is not always friendly to players: the controls can feel stiff, with jumps and interactions lacking the precision you’d want, especially in tense moments. Combine that with the absence of frequent checkpoints and frustration can creep in fast when a small mistake forces you to repeat longer sections. On the technical side, performance is generally solid and the hand-drawn visuals scale nicely to modern resolutions. The narration is warm and theatrical, giving the adventure a fairy-tale tone that fits perfectly with the world’s aesthetic. So in the end, Candle is a beautiful and imaginative indie adventure that will captivate those with patience for its slower, sometimes clumsy design. If you can embrace its quirks, the artistry and puzzle variety make it a rewarding, memorable journey. But if stiff controls and repetition drive you mad, its flame may burn out quickly.

I'll rate this game with the Roger Ebert method of asking what was this game trying to be, and barely, barely give it a pass. Pros: * beautiful art * beautiful story * amazing voice acting * awesome puzzles (including super obscure ones that many people are complaining about) Cons: * jumping * basic interactivity It is obvious that this game was not properly playtested. It is one of the most frustrating adventure games I have ever played. You will know exactly what you want to do to solve a puzzle, but the jumping mechanic will make you retry it 5, 10, 20 times. And basic things like jumping up to a ledge are a chore. Additionally, why does a PC game have a save file limit? What is the point of that? Anyways, this is an absolute beautiful game that could have been great. If you are willing to be patient with the broken jumping mechanic, you might find it tolerable. It is a terrible shame that this game didn't live up to its potential, not due to the story (which is a 9/10) or the art (which is at least a 9/10), but due to the broken platforming mechanics. In any case, I look forward to seeing what this developer can do in the future, hopefully with better playtesting. Protip: press the jump 3 times to register. To the developers: add a hint mechanic. Not for me, but for the people who are dinging you on the review for the obscure puzzles. I liked them. But not everybody will like Zak McKraken-style puzzles.
