A recommend, with caveats. This is in fact a very delightful game of REAL sleight-of-hand card tricks, and I think a lot of the joy you get from this game will depend on how much you geek out at pulling these off. The art and music are also a great mood to get lost in! The moment-to-moment gameplay is a series of minigames and QTEs that correspond to performing 28 different deck and card manipulations ("28", though some are combinations or variations of other ones). You won't actually play a trick-taking game here; those moments are montaged over, and winning a round is determined by your success in the minigame. The rest is a fairly cute linear visual novel story. (It would completely change what THIS game is, but it made me wish for a game that was this BUT ALSO you get to play out your hand, so your card manipulation is about bolstering your odds rather than flat winning.) This experience fell apart for me in 3 areas, all near the end of the game. 1: I encountered a known and not-yet-fixed bug that skipped about 10 minutes of story for me. It was "the big reveal" too, so I was extremely confused until I watched a Let's Play to see what I missed. Extremely frustrating. 2: The second-to-last game has an insane and unnecessary difficulty spike, and the amount of times I failed ended with me just "wanting to get it over with" rather than feeling proud of overcoming it. None of this was helped by the fact that-- 3: The written reminder instructions for the more complicated tricks were actually missing steps OR only gave you instructions for the "straightforward" version of the trick. Meaning when the game threw a curveball at you, you don't actually have the "why" comprehension of how to vary the instructions in order to handle the curveball (because up until now you're just following the rote instructions). Maybe this was intended as a puzzle to solve (or maybe I was tired and grumpy after missing a big story reveal), but I didn't feel the game gave you the framework for solving this. But here's the thing. I DO still recommend this game because of everything that came before. And it seems like the bug I encountered - although known - is rare. And the puzzle I found hard might just be a git gud issue. Played entirely on Steam Deck with no issues beyond the above-mentioned bug (which seems to also exist when played on PC).

Very charming, though I really wish you unlocked a chapter select after you beat the game to make 100% completion more doable.

One of the most charming, well animated, and beautifully orchestrated(in the musical and plot sense of the word) adventure games I have played in a long time. A definite Recommend.

A really interesting concept with mechanics that link well to the narrative. Unfortunately, it's not accessible to people with disabilities relating to mobility of the hands. After a few minutes of play I am in agony. Switching to easy mode didn't help. I'd recommend this for people with full hand-arm mobility, but if you have any issues with your hands, stay away.

This was quite an enjoyable little story set in pre-revolution France. It's not really a point-and-click adventure game as such and it's quite linear, so there's not that much replay value. This game has two things going for it that make me recommend it: The first thing is that if you're interested in sleight-of-hand card tricks and clever manipulations for fooling people, this game has plenty of examples of those. I'm fairly clueless when it comes to stuff like faking card shuffles, so a lot of the dirty tricks here were new to me. Of course you can't actually simulate the haptic feel of real cards in a videogame, but the presentation of the tricks was way more entertaining than reading a wiki about them. I've no idea if the tricks are actually historical, but at least they seem plausible. The second thing is that the gameplay consists almost completely of timed QTE minigames. If you enjoy playing cooking games such as "Cook, Serve, Delicious" this plays a lot like that. You're shown how to perform a single trick or technique, then you're expected to apply it as a minigame (without screwing it up, of course). As you learn more techniques, these get combined in new variations, later in the game some of the shuffling puzzles become more complicated. If you aren't annoyed by ticking timers in QTE puzzles, this is actually quite satisfying to play, at least with a controller. The story was... fine, but I wouldn't buy this just for the plot.
