One of my favorite games of all time! Still endlessly fun to this day. Run over everyone you see and crash into your opponents!!! Although I didn't grow up on the original dos or 3DFX release I played it so much on my iphone 4S when this game used to be on the app store. Such a peak racing game that doesn't have many other replacements besides the sequels. Despite this title being almost thirty years old of age this game holds up phenomenally. To gain ranks & earn money to upgrade your cars complete laps, kill all pedestrians, or destroy every other opponent. These three ways to tackle each level definitely makes the races more exciting & fun to me. I really mostly go for killing all opponents but when I was younger I have beaten some levels doing the race itself or occasionally killing all Peds. Unlocking Cars in this game is a dopamine rush in itself. With the amount of them you can obtain in the vanilla game alone & the expansion pack always makes you excited to get something new. And with the advent of mods people have been able to add insane vehicles to carmageddon 1-3 that are splendid looking & playing. The soundtrack for C1 is also great mostly consisting of instrumental tracks by metal band "Fear Factory" they do a superb job at getting you hyped to crash into other things. (: Carmageddon Blends Max Max & DeathRace 2000 Perfectly into an amazing gameplay & visual experience. If you want to play this game today instead of using DOSBOX, (use the application "SteamEdit" to edit how the game launches so it doesn't use DOSBOX anymore.) run Carmageddon with either the Unofficial Max Pack 95 Restoration Project Pack (Restores the win95 version of the game natively and is a good option/doesnt need steamedit from what i remember), the Dethrace Source Port, (My preferred way to play vanilla Carmageddon very nice stable version) the special edition mod, (Adds new cars tracks & extras but still crashed occasionally) or the Meld Pack (This is what I use, it has everything from the Special Editon mod and supports higher resolutions, extra options, & built in mod support for extra cars etc but can be unstable & more likely to crash at points) A truly timeless game that I will never tire of: 9.5/10

You're used to playing normal and simple racing games. Whether it's normal racing or even police chases. Now a racing game where you run over people and even cows, which gives you points and increases your time... Let's agree that it's very bold and innovative for the time the game was released. The characters: Max Damage and the iconic Die Anna They are unforgettable in the entire franchise! As for the cars... starting with Die Anna's car, her car's gameplay is like a "tank car" and you have a hard time driving... Even if you're being bad or good... the difficulty is the same! As for Max Damage's car... Compared to Die Anna's, it's infinitely better and you can get the hang of it. So much so that the game shows the cars' static shots, like the ones in Need for Speed from the 2000s, you know? The locations are good, the graphics are spectacular for the time... Nowadays it has aged badly... The movement... LOL they are literally paper sprites, like the enemies in DOOM, so don't expect much The soundtrack is remarkable without a shadow of a doubt! It's a really fun game and I HIGHLY recommend Carmageddon 1 I really hope to play the Carmageddon sequels in the future!

The lo-fi engine and screaming sounds just never get old. Bizarre gameplay, bizarre car design, pure fun. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2856237838 A truly unique game series. There are no clones of it.

Masterpiece, I'd trade this for any modern racing game. Cars handling doesn't hold your hand, wrecking enemies gives you satisfaction and so do the occasional car unlocks, which are always exciting. They just don't make games like this anymore, like it wouldn't even pass the rating system most likely, in our current snowflake woke age. Played this back in like 1999, came back just recently and had a blast. As for this particular Steam release, it's fantastic, you can adjust resolution and keybinds, through just a couple of small tweaks. I had no crashes or anything, apart from occasional audio cut offs. Played on Windows 11. P.S. You know the game is sick when it has Fear Factory as part of the soundtrack.
