Cats are Liquid – A Better Place is a deceptively simple-looking platformer that reveals depth, emotion, and mechanical creativity as you progress. At first glance it presents itself as a minimalist 2D adventure where you guide Lumi, a liquid-like cat, through abstract environments built from clean shapes and soft colors. But beneath this unassuming surface lies a carefully constructed world that evolves across dozens of levels, gradually reshaping both how you move and how you interpret the story. The game wastes no time establishing its tone: it feels gentle, quiet, and strangely comforting, yet with an undercurrent of melancholy that becomes more pronounced the deeper you venture into its surreal landscapes. Movement is the heart of the experience, and A Better Place builds on the foundation established by its predecessor with a much stronger sense of flow and responsiveness. Lumi can shift between states—solid, liquid, and in later stages even more unusual forms—which transforms the platforming into a playful mix of sliding, squeezing, bouncing, and maneuvering through tight spaces. New abilities are introduced at a steady pace, each one expanding how you interact with the world. Tail hooks let you swing across gaps, bursts of light break through barriers, and character swapping adds puzzle-like layers to traversal. The game’s 120 rooms are designed around these evolving mechanics, often challenging you to think creatively about momentum, angles, and spatial awareness. While the platforming is accessible enough for casual players, mastering its subtleties delivers a deeply satisfying rhythm. The visual style supports this sense of dream-like motion. Environments are composed of soft gradients, warm lighting, and clean geometric layouts that give each room a calm, almost meditative atmosphere. These soothing visuals contrast with the emotional weight hidden within the narrative. Although much of the story is told through implication rather than dialogue, the themes become clear as Lumi’s journey continues. The world feels constructed—artificial in a way that suggests someone built it for her, both as a refuge and a cage. The presence of friends, memories, and subtle environmental shifts hint at struggles with loss, separation, and the desire to hold onto moments that inevitably slip away. The game never becomes heavy-handed, instead trusting the player to connect dots and interpret the metaphors at their own pace. One of the most impressive features is the built-in level editor and Steam Workshop support. Once you complete the main campaign, you can create your own worlds or explore others made by the community. This extends the game's lifespan significantly and gives players a creative outlet that mirrors the game's own themes of construction and discovery. The editor is intuitive, allowing both simple puzzle layouts and elaborate multi-room creations. It’s a natural fit for a game that already feels like a digital terrarium—modular, expressive, and endlessly reconfigurable. Despite its strengths, the game isn’t without gentle limitations. The physics can sometimes feel slightly floaty, which may not appeal to players expecting tight precision platforming. The pacing of the story is intentionally subtle, which some may interpret as vague or underdeveloped, and certain emotional beats may not land equally for all players. The minimalist presentation means environments can occasionally feel similar if you move quickly through them. Yet even these aspects feel more like stylistic choices than shortcomings, forming part of the quiet, introspective identity the game aims to cultivate. Cats are Liquid – A Better Place ultimately succeeds by offering an experience that blends mechanical creativity with emotional resonance. It isn’t a loud or demanding game; it invites you to glide, experiment, and reflect as Lumi grows through the challenges placed before her. For players who appreciate atmospheric platformers, gentle storytelling, and fluid movement systems, it delivers a memorable and heartfelt journey. It may look small on the surface, but it leaves an impression that lingers long after the last level fades away. Rating: 8/10

the absolutely best game I have ever played. simple to steer, hard levels but not too hard, extremely satisfying. Unbelievable lore, amazing soundtrack. I reccomend it for everyone, the sequel too. I've played it quite a lot of times and I can never get bored, once I finish it I just wait for a little while and play it again. Is it possible for the soundtrack to appear on Spotify or other streaming platforms?
