AVOID | LACKING | MAYBE | WORTHWHILE | COMPELLING | UNMISSABLE Cats Love Boxes is a Sokoban puzzle game where you manipulate two cats with different abilities/limitations to push boxes into specific areas of the map. The games offers you two difficulties - casual and hard - and the option to play solo or co-op. I believe the difference between casual and hard is ~one box/level is removed in casual. If you play solo, you can switch between cats, and if you play co-op, each person controls only one of the two cats. I played the majority of the game co-op and hard, but switched to casual for a few puzzles when my brain felt like it was melting after spending like 20 minutes on one level. There are three separate worlds with ~20 levels per world. The art design is super cute (cats! And nice colors!) and the music is cheery. I liked having the ability to choose the type of gameplay I wanted. The addition of co-op was fun (nothing like hearing, "No, what are you doooooing?" as I'm finishing the puzzle myself lol) and we had no issues playing. The only improvement I can suggest is adding a hint option (I would have preferred this over switching to a casual difficulty for the one puzzle we really got stuck on) - perhaps the option to choose to know which box must or can go on a particular square (similar to how Feed All Monsters implements their hint system). Otherwise, no complaints. The game took exactly 4 hours to complete it in its entirety with all achievements. For those who enjoy puzzles and are looking for a co-op option, this is a super cute option. Even if you're playing solo, if you enjoy Sokoban puzzles, I imagine this would still be a great pick.

Cats Love Boxes is a decent short cat-themed block-pushing puzzle game. Here's how the game differs from the classic Sokoban formula: you always control two cats, which allows for some moves that are unavailable in normal Sokoban. Only the heavy cat is strong enough to push heavy boxes, but in return, it destroys leaf tiles when it walks over them. The light cat can walk onto half tiles and thus be pushed around by the heavy cat. And finally, there are conveyor belts and toggleable gates. In terms of level design, a decent number of levels in Hard mode are reasonably challenging, I haven't tried Normal difficulty, but it seems like this mode somewhat simplifies the Hard mode levels, e.g. by removing one box. Movement via keyboard feels clunky for some reason: when I constantly alternate between left & right arrow, the cats drift off in one direction or another. I haven't tried using the controller, but other reviews report similar issues there. Personally I'm not in the target audience for cat-themed entertainment, but this game is not a cashgrab theme game, but a solid game in its own right. Buying a Devcats game is something I always do the day of release, I also generally gift some of those games as a celebration. There is something special with this developer team, it makes me feel like I'm not only having a lot of fun, but I participate to something bigger, I help cats by buying a very low price DLC and it makes me happy. If you can, try to buy this game and the other ones at full price. It definitely worth it and you'll help cats in need as well. Thanks to you, there is a few cats in this world who will receive kibbles, have their injuries treated and so much more. I think about that every time I play a Devcats game and I can't help but smiling and wanting to give them more support so more cats will have their belly full and may be adopted in a lovely home.
