Chicken Shoot Gold is a throwback to a very specific era of arcade gaming, one where the joy came from simple reflex-driven action rather than layered systems or modern polish. At its heart, the game is exactly what its title suggests: a lighthearted shooting gallery filled with loud, mischievous cartoon chickens that pop up across various themed backgrounds. The premise is unapologetically straightforward. You select a mode, pick a difficulty, and begin blasting chickens as fast and as accurately as you can while racking up points. It’s the kind of formula that doesn’t need a tutorial—anyone who has ever played a classic light-gun game or a casual browser shooter will know what to do instantly, which gives it an immediate accessibility. Where Chicken Shoot Gold finds charm is in its campy presentation. The chickens themselves are animated with exaggerated personality, flapping wildly, taunting the player, or diving across the screen in silly motions. Each environment is filled with little visual jokes and bright colours, giving the game a Saturday-morning-cartoon energy. The weapon selection adds a small layer of variety—different guns fire at different speeds or patterns, and switching between them mid-stage can change the rhythm of an encounter. As the missions progress, waves come faster, chickens become more chaotic, and obstacles appear more frequently, keeping the game from feeling completely static. It succeeds as a casual score-chasing experience, something you jump into for a few rounds simply to enjoy the absurdity. However, despite its good-natured spirit, Chicken Shoot Gold shows its age in almost every technical aspect. The visuals may retain their quirky charm, but the resolution options are limited, forcing modern displays to stretch or pillar-box the image in ways that betray the game’s early-2000s origins. Menus and UI elements feel dated, and saving progress can be inconsistent on some systems. The Steam version, while functional, is clearly a direct port rather than a remaster, and it lacks the enhancements—widescreen support, refined controls, upgraded assets—that older titles often receive today. For players accustomed to modern standards, these shortcomings are noticeable, sometimes distracting, and occasionally frustrating. The structure of the game also reveals its simplicity. While two full Chicken Shoot titles are included within the Gold package, the core loop doesn’t change much across stages. You enter a level, shoot chickens until the score counter reaches its requirement, and move on. Backgrounds change, weapon availability shifts slightly, and difficulty spikes can occur, but the fundamental gameplay never evolves. This is not inherently a flaw—many arcade classics rely on repetition—but it does mean that Chicken Shoot Gold appeals most to players who enjoy high-score chasing rather than those looking for progression, narrative, or mechanical depth. Nevertheless, there is an undeniable nostalgic appeal here. Chicken Shoot Gold feels like a relic from a time when games didn’t try to be profound or cinematic—they simply aimed to entertain for a few minutes at a time. For players who remember similar shooters from handheld consoles, Flash websites, or early PC bundles, the game may evoke a pleasant sense of familiarity. Even newcomers may appreciate its goofy tone if they enter with the expectation of a simple, no-frills arcade diversion rather than a modernized reimagining. In the end, Chicken Shoot Gold succeeds at being exactly what it has always been: a silly, colourful, reflex-based shooter with an unmistakably old-school feel. Its biggest strengths lie in its accessibility and playful personality, while its biggest weaknesses stem from dated presentation, shallow mechanics, and a lack of modernization in its Steam release. Those who approach the game with nostalgia or a fondness for light arcade experiences will likely find it charming for short bursts. Those seeking depth, polish, or technical refinement will probably move on quickly. Rating: 6/10

Chicken Shoot Gold is a bundle of two classic and funny arcade shooting games. I had played them on the GBA platform. All games are running well on my Windows 10 system. No compatible problems. Of course, I have activated the DirectPlay component before playing. Although the maximum resolution is 800x600, but they can work in fullscreen mode. So this is not a major problem. I only need to enter the serial number at the first time. These games will remember it and your config. I didn't do anything special, just write it on the paper and close the Steam serial number message forever. Some negative reviews said the game couldn't save your level progress. But these are ARCADE games! In my memory, all of old arcade games are not supported save function. The existential value of them is to test player's shooting skills.
