After completing all the game modes, I can definitely recommend CRYPTARK, even at the full $15. Don't get me wrong, there are some rough edges and minor bugs, but nothing that ruined the experience for me. The gameplay is challenging, but with enough options that you can figure out what works best for your playstyle. Unique suit sets, the equipment you find is randomized, it's great. I really like how they implemented the bonus challenges for the main levels, where you get a bonus for completing each one and another bonus if you do all 3. It's enough incentive to try newly found weapons or ways to play, or be really risky to catch up after a loss. I do wish there was a way to use your cash to directly purchase weapon/equipment licenses, even if at exorbitant costs. There were quite a few times where I would have happily paid the majority of my saved up funds to have a sensor pack to cut through jamming systems. Still, that was another lesson to me that I shouldn't discount the science vessels just because they don't provide any cash value. The story is intriguing, while not being too complicated. I liked how it was progressed through finding the artifacts, it felt like a nice reward when finally finishing the challenge. The story still has enough potential at the true end of the game that I found myself wanting more in the next game, so I'm looking forward to GUNHEAD. Thanks to all the talent that went into making this game!

Recently I've been on a kick of playing Rogue-genre games, and as Cryptark has been sitting in my library for a LONG time I decided to give it a whirl. I've gotta say that for the most part the game's pleasantly surprised me. If you like this review and you'd like to read other long-form reviews, or get in contact with me you can do so by [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/36761101-Miphnificent]*Clicking Here* for more content Cryptark takes a different approach to the whole "loadout cost" system that most other games utilize, where your cost of everything is tallied by how much of the stuff you've used. Cryptark instead charges you a flat value at the beginning of your runs into the derelict ships of the Alien Flotilla, and so you better use it or lose it. I've found this system to be very refreshing, as it makes sense for a corporation to charge you for all of the equipment you're taking into a run with you, though the fact you don't really get money back for unspent equipment is a little weird. Enemy variety is interesting, but the enemy variety in the game swings wildly between enemies that are extremely powerful and obnoxious to deal with, to enemies that basically do nothing to you except shoot weird purple goo at you. Leviathan's and Juggernaut's are good examples of this, as they're both meant to be big and bad enemies, but Leviathan's never once caused me problems, whereas Juggernauts were a constant pain. Cryptark as a game is a little bit short. I've played every single bit of content there is in under 10 hours, and unlocked every specific frame for use in the Rogue and Cryptark Excavation modes. One of the biggest complaints I've got for the game is the lack of frame variety whilst you're in the campaign, as there are obviously more available due to their appearance in the Rogue and Excavation modes, so having them in the story as optional upgrades which you find aboard some ships would add some much needed spice to the game. Cryptark's arsenal is varied but not particularly super interesting unless you're lucky enough to find a BUNCH of licenses for weird and cool weapons during your campaign run. Along with that, many of the weapons are just genuinely outclassed by others within the games available arsenal, making for a situation where you'll be asking yourself "Why would I bother using this weapon, when I could just continue using THIS one?", because even if you try to play stealthily later on the game becomes more frantic with requiring you to kill more and more things. Overall , I'd give Cryptark an 8/10, and would suggest you pick it up if it's on sale.

This is a good ass game. You can complete it in an hour or two, sure, but it is worth the price. Gameplay is fast, action packed robot bashing fun. Like playing Armored Core with a light mech. And the customization options both give you awesome tools to hack some bots and also play into the planing. The game demands that you plan your path ahead and taunts you to put holes on that plan by giving you some extra cash and goodies so you are always thinking about what compromises you will take so you can get a sick weapon for your exosuit on the next raid. Every weapon, expendable equipment and armor point you put on your exosuit weights on your pocket, and you must be sure that you will have a profit at the end of a mission. You will need every penny and the best gear possible when you get to the last level of the game. So plan ahead, try out different combinations, learn the game so you can complete missions with optimized gear, and make every bullet count. I would wish you good luck, but you'll need more than that if you want to destroy the Cryptark.

A very enjoyable and strategic roguelike which is challenging without being absurdly difficult. The aesthetics are excellent and the gameplay is tight enough. I've mostly played this on the PS5, often in coop. Recommended, 8/10.
