I must say i love this oldstyle HIOs. They just feel so much more alive. I really like the game. The story is rather simple and the ambience is very nice. The jumpscares are douchy, they really got me. I really like the game. I can really highly recommend it

Dance of Death, developed by eight game studio and published by RunServer, is a gothic-themed hidden object adventure that leans heavily on atmosphere and familiar genre conventions to deliver a concise mystery experience. Set within a shadowy Venetian mansion steeped in supernatural intrigue, the game places players in the role of an investigator searching for a missing child while unraveling a story tied to music, curses, and lingering spirits. It presents itself as a classic hidden object title from the outset, prioritizing mood and structure over innovation, and it remains consistent with that identity throughout. The gameplay follows a well-established loop built around exploration, item searching, and puzzle-solving. Players move through a series of interconnected locations, each filled with hidden objects that must be discovered in order to progress. These segments are interspersed with a variety of puzzles, ranging from simple pattern recognition tasks to slightly more involved logic challenges. The pacing is steady, alternating between observation and interaction in a way that keeps the experience accessible and easy to follow. However, while there is some variation in puzzle design, the underlying mechanics do not evolve significantly, which can make the experience feel repetitive as it progresses. The narrative unfolds across multiple chapters, gradually revealing the mystery behind the disappearance and the supernatural forces at play. Themes of music and emotion are woven into the story, giving it a slightly more distinctive tone compared to more generic hidden object plots. Despite this, the storytelling remains relatively straightforward, relying on familiar tropes and predictable developments. The characters serve more as narrative anchors than fully developed personalities, and while the plot maintains a sense of intrigue, it does not delve deeply into its themes. The story is effective in providing context and motivation, but it rarely surprises or challenges expectations. One of the game’s strongest elements is its visual presentation. The environments are detailed and atmospheric, with a hand-crafted aesthetic that emphasizes dark interiors, ornate architecture, and subtle visual cues that enhance the sense of mystery. Each location feels distinct enough to maintain interest, and the consistent art direction helps reinforce the game’s tone. The use of lighting and color contributes to the overall mood, creating a setting that feels both immersive and slightly unsettling. The soundtrack complements this effectively, using music to underscore key moments and maintain a steady emotional backdrop. Despite these strengths, the game’s limited scope becomes apparent over time. The overall length is relatively short, allowing most players to complete the main story within a few hours. While this brevity prevents the game from becoming overly repetitive, it also limits the depth of both its gameplay and narrative. The puzzles, while functional, do not introduce enough new ideas to sustain long-term engagement, and the story does not fully explore its more interesting concepts. As a result, the experience can feel somewhat surface-level, particularly for players who are familiar with the genre. Another aspect that affects the game is its strict adherence to traditional design. While it executes the hidden object formula competently, it does little to expand or refine it. Players who have experience with similar titles will likely find the structure and progression predictable, from the way puzzles are introduced to how the story unfolds. This familiarity can be appealing for those looking for a straightforward experience, but it also prevents the game from standing out in a meaningful way. Ultimately, Dance of Death is a competent and atmospheric hidden object adventure that delivers a consistent, if somewhat conventional, experience. Its strengths lie in its presentation and its ability to create a cohesive mood, while its weaknesses stem from its limited depth and lack of innovation. For players who enjoy the genre and are looking for a short, self-contained mystery, it provides a satisfying experience. However, those seeking a more ambitious or varied adventure may find it lacking in both scope and originality. Rating: 6/10

Although this hidden object game is on the shorter side, the setting of the story and campy/macabre vibe of the game is memorable.

A bit less than four hours on easy, lost my first save somehow. Aging, but still fine Hidden-Object game with not too hard problems to solve in between.
