It's arcade action. So if you don't get driven to replay shmups and break high scores then you might not be satisfied with what's offered here. I enjoy it. And for the sale price of $12.50 I'd say it's very much worth it. I need more Darius in my life even if I suck at these games. And it's a great way to get more use out of my ultrawide monitor : ) I also like the DLC offerings here, something I rarely care for due to marketing practices of companies ever since DLC started becoming standard. But here we get some unique ships from other game series to have a try at. Good deal.

Dariusburst is a port AND a new game at the same time, it brings to PC the entire arcade experience (sadly the game is missing the Another Chronicle EX+ upgrade that allows you to use the Murakumo on that mode and the online events that the arcade had and are available on the switch version), on the other side Chronicle Saviours is a full new gamemode with 186 missions and 9 different ships to choose from; As of writing this review I've clocked 97hrs and I'm still nowhere near fully clearing CS mode so there's a lot for you to do. Gameplay wise this is a honest shoot'em up with it's unique mechanic being the Burst weapon that you can either use as a fixed laser that will hit anything in a straight line from it's fixed position or forgo your normal shot and use a focused burst beam that has a special interaction with the burst beams of your enemy and that is counterbursting, which actually rewards practice and patience to master it as you not only get a damage boost but a higher score multiplier when killing enemies including bosses. History, and yes there is one a long but at the same time short story, ACEX is a 32:9 retelling of Second Prologue's story and mostly just another side of the war BUT Chronicle Saviours is a straight continuation of the story from the PSP game Dariusburst (2009), specifically Ending 3(vs Syvalion) and pretty much is the culmination of a war that has been intermittenly happening for close to 2 millenia against the Belsar, althought hard to piece together if you only play CS and forgo all other games you will not miss anything outside of cameos/lore drops of the older games MCs; If you have played the PSP version OR SP you will get to see the fate of both MCs (kinda). Onto the music, and what can I tell you it is ZUNTATA once again, you even get to hear all the songs from the older games on all stages that you get to use those ships. I will truly never get tired of hearing One Down between stages with the Genesis or SELF during a final boss with the Gaien. DLCs... well they are totally optional you can't play with the ships/characters from each DLC on ACEX or CS mode so... yeah, the guidebook is a really cool addition tho I recommend it if you want to know extra stuff about the games, sadly it is not translated for some reason nor is it available as a PDF/EPUB. As a final note, to this day remote play is broken and you WILL need to plug in an extra control if you want someone else to play with, and this increases by 1 for every other player. Thankfully there's a workaround via x360ce or any other controller emulator, you just need to fake that you have 4 controllers plugged in whenever you want to remote play (the other person MUST use a controller).

Lots of content and the DLC is a blast. A great modern shooter showing both old school and new school gamers how good a modern shmup can be

FIREFOSSIL IS APPROACHING!!! If you played the original, then you know just how badass this game genre is, otherwise, it would probably be too primitive for you by today's standards. This bullet hell side scroller was the shiz back in the day. Chronice Saviors is just more of the good stuff, more new ships, satellite pods with extra powers in expansions, etc. Get a controller and get ready for those armored sea creatures, because they are COMING FAST.

A truely epic shmup with gorgeous graphics and music and a solid gameplay. Loving the arcade mode and the short format. This however constrasts with the CS mode which is a marathon and turns into a burden as it is highly repetitive (the purple levels are just too much). Also, counter-bursting with most burst ships is annoyingly tricky in my opinion. Could be improved but remains a great shmup overall.
