All the "Deathsmiles is good for folks looking to get into STGs" folks were right. I like having multiple buttons to press and things to manage, so giving you a little guy to manage in the form of your option adds so much for me. When I dared to challenge the Suicide Bullets and started feeding my creature with them... it clicked. I understood. This was the first time I played an STG with a focus on scoring (as part of a community challenge) instead of "beating" it with whatever credit count I found personally acceptable and I quite enjoyed it. Probably because Scoring Good gives you that dopamine hit fulliment of filling the screen with a lot of goodies. So many goodies that the game slows down, making it easier to slide on past the bullets as you chew on some points-loaded skulls. And then if you get REALLY good you can quickly recharge your Score Good mode and instantly get back to it? Baller. Maybe I was taking the wrong approach that would work best for me this entire time. I can finally take this off the list of STGs I jammed to the soundtracks of for years without giving them an actual try. Also I said I played this for score, but I happened to get a 1CC in the same run I managed to break past 100 million, yezzzzziirrrrrrr~ Those hours spent practicing the Volcano bombful and bombless recharge were worth it even though I only got a half recharge in the real run 'cause that joint is kinda difficile with guides and ancient forum posts saying "hold lock shot" but not what number on the counter to start holding it, and I almost placed high in a Throwing Contest with really dumb deaths, but we take those. I'm satisfied. I'm glad Halloween is real.

Awesome horizontal shmup (where you can actually shoot behind you, I know, crazy stuff) with an amazing style and feel, and great music too on top of that. Not as brutal as some other shmups but it still offers a bit of a challenge, just mostly the last stage (+the extra one). So yeah, amazing game overall, but it is obviously very short so maybe wait for it on sale. 8.5/10 Song of the Day: - Souzou no Ame (想像の雨) - by siraph

If you can get past some of the ... unique Japanese cultural design choices ... in this game then you'll find possibly one of your favourite shmups to play. Tons of complexity in scoring that's incredibly fun to squeeze every single point you can out of. Burning Halloweentown is the single best track in the game hands down.

Deathsmiles II is the ugliest SHMUP that i've ever seen, and probably the worst CAVE game ever released, so i was never going to buy that train wreck on Steam. The original Deathsmiles and Black Label are fantastic though.

This is one of CAVE's best games in my opinion The music, the looks, the controls, the simple story and the challenge all just make a fun game If you got some extra cash I would highly recommend to get the Manabu Namiki Selection album as well as it has amazing remixes of the game soundtrack Game also runs flawless on the Steam Deck so you can take this game on the go
