Phenomenal puzzle roguelite. Seems tough at first, but every enemy has an attack pattern that you can dodge or parry to your benefit. Almost 1 out of 5 players have achieved the true ending as of this review. This requires time, knowledge, luck, and skill of course to achieve. It genuinely blows my mind that people have pushed through to the true ending to see the content after. Not a knock on the game, but on players lol. This just SHOWS how fun and addicting this game can be! You can recover from any run and even do runs without a weapon once you're familiar with the way the game plays. And it honestly feels gooooood. It's like crypt of the necrodancer except you can take your time as much as you need to (minus a handful of enemies in later levels). Can't recommend this game enough for roguelite fans

Some novel mechanics in this one. Turn based when you want to play thoughtfully, but it allows basically real time play (seamless chained moves), along with some mechanics that reward fast play (dodge, parry, time capped rewards). Rewards for exploration (gold skulls, optional bosses). A mystery (what events lead up to your downfall). Upgrades were the weakest layer. There are fairly straightforward piles of perks that reward getting more of the same category (bombs, allies, lightning, bats, shurrikens, fire, invulnerability). Invulnerability specifically felts bad, because it trivialized everything. Boss mechanics don't matter when you can kill the boss before invulnerability runs out. But the whole is good. Feels like Crypt of the Necrodancer, but without the music forcing moves. Like a turn based roguelike, but sometimes playing fast is the answer.

So far this is hands-down my favorite mystery dungeon-style game ever. It's simple, yet incredibly deep. It's got a great sense of humor, it's adorable, and it's fair. You even get to keep your stats between runs. You're constantly leveling up stats and abilities, finding new stuff, etc. This is what keeps me going at the point where I would drop most other roguelites like Shiren. As far as the parry and dodging -- with my old man reflexes I find them impossible; and that was kind of a bait-and-switch on us. They were added in a later update in the demo, but never should have been IMHO. I mean the description still says "This is a tactical action roguelite where every move matters—and reflexes don't." This wasn't supposed to be an action game either, so not sure where that came from. I haven't been required to use parrying or dodging so far, so it's not a huge deal. I probably won't be able to get 100% achievements though. One small warning: I poured about 20 hours into the demo, and bought the full version immediately when it came out, and -- surprise -- I had to start over from the beginning! But I understand why: the developer is constantly adding stuff to the game, and they didn't want us to miss anything. I got some bonus XP for playing the demo, so that helps ease the pain.

This game is very fun and snappy. I love that it gives you the option to play really fast, but also slow and methodical if you need to. The items and upgrades you can unlock are fun and unique. My favorite was the first one you unlock, the lightning chidori, which lets you lunge past enemies and dodge attacks easily which made for some real good flow. The Story is also very cute and charming, and I liked collecting more and more minions on the run. *The scarecrow deserves its fate
