Too many things are going right here to give it a bad review, but there is seriously a lot here to improve. Breeding monsters seems like it should be a way bigger priority. The actual gameplay needs to take a bit of a backseat, because it's repetitive as holy hell and at present, boring. The roguelike mechanics should be greatly expanded, the maps desperately need to be opened up some because they're cramped. Half of the base activities seem utterly pointless, and I don't get why they used linear progression mechanics that leaves so little player agency in a roguelike.

Different than I expected, in a good way. 8.5/10 This is a nice medium paced space shooter/hacknslash with a light city builder homebase. (and a kid friendly game, if they can handle medium challenge) Edit: Played solo mostly, and enjoying it. Got to try sharedscreen/couch coop last night and it was good fun. Definitely something you could play with your kid if they are old enough. (Note: to unlock sharedscreen, play in solo until you unlock your 2nd dino battle slot as each player is required to ride a dino to enter battle) The shooter portion: I appreciate this for being a nice medium pace. I don't want every game to be a high stress high speed, dodge or die challenge. I'll play something like hades or ember knights if I'm in the mood for that. This is a nice chill but actual game (not a cell phone app) level of fight. Also, it seems kid friendly so far. That's a plus. You have your character riding a dino and up to 2 other dinos helping. They aren't glued to you, so they actually help quite a bit. You pick what biome to play, difficulty modes and enter. Get starting perks that affect your attacks and abilities (can easily swap them around equip/unequip amongst your team), then generally pick which exit has your preferred option. The new room is usually a fight, then the reward (usually more perks to equip). Sometimes it's a light puzzle instead or a shop. When you go through enough rooms, the last is a boss fight (has a counter, so you know). WIn and get decent rewards and progress toward unlocking the biome's main boss and beating that unlocks more modes with more challenges and higher tier resources. Die and you keep a portion of what you had collected, so you don't get permanently stuck if you made bad choices. The perks are pretty decent while keeping the space shooter feel. The dinos feel pretty different in how they attack and what special ability they have. For example A melee dino with multi attack feels very different from a basic shooter spraying shots in a fan feels very different from a rock lobbing dino that really wants extra bounces more than anything. In the 2nd biome, I got a dino that lucked out on speed perks and has the ability to drop down defensive walls. Lame on their own, but you can easily get perks that make them explode or my favorite so far tether an energy beam to you that harms any enemies and obstacles that it touches. It's an awesome ability. Outside the shooter runs, you have the upgrading your dinos and city builder aspect. The enemies you killed (especially bosses) reward you with a couple kinds of permanent upgrade currency, both for your character/general upgrades and for upgrading your dinos stats (Movement speed highly recommended). You can also crunch same species dinosaurs down in a star level up system. Most of runs will give you the option to have taken several eggs, which hatch pretty fast while running round building your city, doing light farming, trying to keep enough food producing for your dinos, starting research, improving your dinos work/eating/rest circumstances, keeping them from polluting your whole town with dung, etc. It's structured so you want to do more combat runs for resources, dinos, and food - but rewards getting the base production going too. But it keeps you with a goal, beat the next biome boss, because technology tiers, allowable amounts ect are unlocked every couple base level upgrades, usually a tier requiring the next boss. For example, you can send dinos out on hunting missions, but only 1 until later base levels. That 1 is really helpful for getting leather, because it's about on par with doing a run for leather. You want to do both, because it's a primary restrictor early on. The focus on the medium paced space shooter really brings this game together. The city builder is also more than simply "buy upgrade" feels like a nice step up from something like backpack hero's town or dead cells collection screens. If that sounds like your cup of tea, great. If you are looking for fast paced leaderboard challenges or massive sprawling complex cities with industrial production and looming threat of defeat - this is very not that. Notes for dev: 2p sharedscreen/couchcoop is good fun. Can you add the option for a 3rd player in sharedscreen? Also, for some reason one player got to select totems, the other had control over placing them. But if you are playing with a kid or non-gamer or someone easily distracted, it would be better to just put player 1/experienced player in charge of all of that.

After ~60 hours of gameplay I completed this game on the current highest difficulty (single player challenge mode in the Time-Space rift). Overall I enjoyed my experience and would recommend this game to others, even in it's current EA state. Pros: I liked the boss design and varied encounters. Progress through the story and technology was smooth and polished. Most of the systems were intuitive and needed little explanation Cons: The suggested power isn't accurate. I finished the hardest game mode with less than half of the recommended power of act 4 nightmare mode. Some dino and totem combos create so many particles that it causes the game to crash but this can be played around Overall a fun game that I look forward to future updates
