DSX: Recommended, especially for DualSense Edge users TL;DR: A very good and highly customizable tool for DualSense and DualSense Edge users on PC. It offers a huge amount of control over profiles, emulation, adaptive triggers, LEDs, and button mapping, but it can take some time to understand how DSX interacts with Steam Input, virtual controllers, and custom mappings. DSX is one of those programs you probably do not realize you need until you start seriously using a DualSense or DualSense Edge on PC. Once you do, it becomes obvious how much of the controller's functionality is left unused by Windows and by many games. The biggest strength of DSX is the amount of control it gives you over the controller. You can customize buttons, profiles, LEDs, adaptive triggers, deadzones, shortcuts, and general controller behavior, while also using virtual controller emulation. With a DualSense Edge in particular, these options make the controller significantly more useful on PC. The ability to use a virtual DualSense is especially useful. Xbox emulation offers excellent compatibility, but the obvious downside is that many games will then display Xbox button prompts. Being able to stay within the DualSense ecosystem is therefore a big advantage if you care about PlayStation button icons and more natural controller support. DSX also gives you plenty of room to experiment. You can create separate profiles for different games and completely change how the controller behaves without having to reconfigure everything inside each game every time. If you use a controller regularly, that becomes very convenient. That said, it is not perfect. The biggest weakness of DSX is that it is not always as plug-and-play as you might expect. Once you start using more advanced features, you need to understand the difference between the physical controller, the virtual controller, Steam Input, and mappings created inside DSX. If something is configured incorrectly, you can run into strange behavior: double inputs, games switching between controller and mouse input, incorrect button prompts, or controller behavior that initially looks like a software bug. Sometimes the real issue is simply a conflict between several different input layers. I ran into this myself. I had previously created mouse-related mappings in DSX, and one game kept switching its interface between controller and mouse. At first it looked like a problem with DualSense emulation, but the actual solution was simply removing the unnecessary mapping. Once the configuration was corrected, everything worked normally. That experience sums DSX up quite well: when everything is configured properly, it works extremely well, but getting there is not always completely obvious. The software could do a better job of explaining how Steam Input, emulation, mappings, and the physical controller interact with each other, especially for new users. The interface itself is fairly pleasant and the amount of functionality is impressive, but the sheer number of options also means it is easy to create a problem with one unnecessary setting and then spend time wondering why a game is behaving strangely. Despite those issues, I recommend DSX. If you use a DualSense on PC, and especially a DualSense Edge, it gives you far more control over the hardware than standard Windows support. Adaptive triggers, profiles, LEDs, advanced remapping, and controller emulation make it possible to tailor the controller very closely to your preferences. It is not completely hassle-free, and it does require some configuration from time to time, but once you understand how it works, it is difficult to go back to using a DualSense on PC without it. Recommended especially for DualSense Edge owners and anyone who likes having full control over their controller configuration.
I mean... it works well, it's a shame they've paywalled features behind DSX+... but if you install some CREAM then you won't need DSX+ 😉 It's a great app. I hope some day they release it as a single standalone without needing any ridiculous DLC. It's not a GAME. It doesn't NEED DLC.
It’s great. I used to struggle with the L2 and R2 buttons—specifically regarding the resistance level—as well as the difference in button layout between PlayStation and Xbox controllers.
