Cool and interesting. Despite the word "stealth" entirely missing from its store page, this is very much a stealth resource management game, except you input the majority of your inputs through a text console. It tests your patience -- there's a lot of waiting and downtime -- but it's pretty immersive. It's one of those "job" games that I seem to enjoy so much. Learning all the mechanics and enemies and interactions is fun, but once you do, there's not much left for you to do. You're going to discover that some items and upgrades are much better than others, and once you've got a good enough setup going, the challenge disappears. At that point, you can go on forever if you're willing to go through the tedium of doing so. As far as I can tell, there isn't even a way to beat the game -- nothing happened when I got all the objectives. And while a substantial effort went into creating the world and all the messages that you find, the only way to find them is to keep grinding. Unfortunately, you run out of objectives quicker than you run out of messages to find. With no real goals left to achieve, continuing to play just to get all the messages does not feel worth it -- especially because I feel like the game will never give you any definitive answers to what the heck happened anyway. Experienced a few crashes, and using the "collector" ship upgrade might cause your game to freeze. There's a number of other glitches, too: some are just the wrong information being shown in the interface, or text not fitting in its textbox; others are more ambiguous, and I couldn't tell if I was abusing exploits or not. Are you supposed to be able to choose the derelict you start at the first time you enter a system? And if you are, why is it so obscure? Is using a stargate supposed to refill your propulsion fuel? And if so, why doesn't that happen if you jump more than one galaxy?? This game is carried entirely by its minimalistic space-gritty atmosphere, so I'm not entirely sure if it's really worth the £15. But if you enjoy stealth games seen through noisy, grainy viewports that break down completely every so often AND you're a fan of having to quickly and accurately type in commands with a constant risk of a typo flinging all your drones into outer space, Duskers might be something for you to consider. ːship_d13ː

DO NOT ATTEMPT WITHOUT GUARANTEED POWER AND TIME Fun, unique experience, and worth considering, BUT: DOES NOT RESPECT REAL LIFE OR YOUR TIME! You can't save during a mission and shutdown your computer, or lose power, without persistent, overaggressive loss! Some sources will tell you that there is a way to save while remaining docked and come back to a level, but I've tested, and this is not true. Once you start a mission, your computer has to stay on, and the game must continue running until you are done with that mission, or you lose that level's availability entirely. Depending on your situation in-game, this could ruin your whole campaign permanently. If you have to leave the house and shut down your computer for example, it will cost you unless you're not currently doing a mission. I view this as overstepping boundaries, and it has made me unhappy with the game. That all said, I still recommend it for the rest of the experience, if you're okay with something in real life potentially destroying your campaign.

Make sure to play this game in a damp cold basement at night with all the lights off on a CRT screen with one of those old loud keyboards. Even if you don't go through all that effort, this game will make you feel like you're like that and it's amazing for it

I really like this game. It has that claustrophobic, creeping horror feel of the first Alien movie. It's fairly simple to understand the gameplay initially, but mastering it takes a good bit longer in terms of experimentation and refining tactics. It's been out for a long, long time now, but routinely still gets updates. It's stable as a rock - I've never experienced any bugs or crashes, and it's always been smooth to play even on lower-end hardware. AND IT SUPPORTS LINUX AND MAC -- thank you for that extra effort, devs! The procedural nature of the galaxy creation for each run makes for a good bit of variety. And, I find myself getting attached to my little drones. The graphics are crisp and totally capture that Alien vibe, too. So absolutely, I recommend this game. The full price feels fair to me for what you get in the game. And apparently the dev is tinkering with the possibility of Duskers 2 (WOOT!).

Duskers is, by far, the scariest game I've ever played. Combined with near-Noita levels of difficulty, a fleshed-out story, and a unique artstyle, it's a true gem amongst the wilds of the Roguelite genre. Although RNG does play a factor in the success of a run, hubris and the flawed strategy that results will be your ultimate undoing every time. 10/10, no notes.
