This is a weird one. On the one hand, the game play loop, which is the main draw, is fun. It's satisfying to tinker with the various systems between battle, rolling shops for better loot and recruits, and then watching carefully how your dwarves perform. However the balance is strange. The meta currency to spend on the passive tree which account for like 80% of total player power, (this is a mistake by the way, devs, in my opinion), can be earned almost idly from a separate game mode, and it ends up feeling like two things: I should go play this other mega-easy game mode to farm for currency to max out this tree to so I'm stronger in the regular game mode, and B: motivation to play the standard mode IS maxxing out the tree! There is no end-game, no story, the game is endless! So the motivation is to fully max out the tree by playing runs, but by the time you were to play enough standard mode to unlock the full thing you'd be bored, unable to enjoy the fruits of your labor fully! since, by the way, there are damn leaderboards! Which you'll be severely handicapped in until you complete the passive tree! The meta progression tree really needs a better tutorial too, for how simple it is in concept, they failed to communicate how it works. Here I am, talking about the stupid passive tree. I swear that's the point of the game.

NEUTRAL REVIEW It's hard to give this a positive or negative review, but, I had enough fun and I like to support and praise indie game devs. To start, this is definitely my type of game, but some of the systems make it unfun to me. I liked this game enough that I would enjoy giving it a second chance later, or future games of the developers. Although I did not play for long, I would like to give some feedback on my experience. Here are some of my thoughts, in bullet points of pros/cons: THE PROS: - The shop system is cute. There are two, for your characters and items. They appear as "cards" that randomize per round, with colours highlighting the rolls of stat on characters, and the card itself is coloured differently per tier of tiem (white for normal, green for good, etc). It's a fun little roguelike feature. - Phasing out old units does not feel punishing, which is important because of the stat gaining item gimmick - Sort of a "puzzle" to figure out different classes, the formation benefits, which stance is most beneficial to your composition, etc. - Lots of things to min max and chase for, such as stronger units, and stronger items, giving lots of exponential growth - Skill tree which incentivizes long term gameplay (huge plus to me!) - The animations are funny, one of the first things that I enjoyed in my first couple of minutes THE CONS - My biggest gripe: It's not a background game, but it's also not engaging enough to be a foreground game. This is an autobattle game that requires your full attention, because the rounds are so short. There are things do in between rounds, lots of min-maxing, but there is no autoloop or autofarm, it is all hands on. I'm not sure how to fix this issue, as it is sort of a core mechanic of the game. - The quests. This is not a live service game, it's singleplayer. Do not make the quests real world time gated when it has no relevance. This simply being in the game is very frustrating. At first, I thought the timer was to refresh your rerolls, which would be ok. But there is no reason to gatekeep progression in a singleplayer game, in any way. Let me grind it out, allow me to have artificial goals to follow. - The skill tree. As much as I said this was a huge plus to me, I just think this one is very inconsequential, and too hard to unlock. It's also out of the way, where everything else has a direct button to click. I often forgot about it, and didn't have much to upgrade anyways. - This is more of a personal dislike, but the only thing that you keep between each save is your skill tree. I would like it if you were allowed to keep maybe X amount of items per game over, or even your storage, to promote stronger and stronger runs in the future. It's very fun to get powerful over time, but I can understand if this is a personal choice of the game dev.

Best auto battler I've ever played! Here's the game loop: - Try to start a game. If you're using a gamepad like me, find out that the gamepad doesn't seem to work correctly for starting a game, and use a mouse. Now once the game has started it's possible the gamepad works, but it isn't set up correctly to start games - minor bug or possibly I just haven't figured it out. - Buy some weapons, but keep some money in your pocket because you'll also need to buy some dwarves to be in your army. - Go fight some battles and collect loot and equipment. - Equip your army. - As you continue to play new features unlock such as a forge or a tavern or extra storage or a technology tree for changing the bonuses in the game, etc. - While fighting you'll eventually see some deaths. But if your army wins those fighters will be back in your army for the next round. - Eventually if everyone dies it's Game Over - As you collect loot you'll also be able to craft higher end equipment which makes a big difference. Eventually every army you fight against is bigger than yours so optimizing equipment is very important. The music in this game is fantastic. I just couldn't stop playing as soon as I got into the loop. I recommend this as it has pretty interesting strategy and it's fun to watch as your army eventually crumbles against really mean enemies. There is a deep strategy to forging items and I haven't quite mastered that part of the game yet. There is also some skill to keeping your formation from losing ground too.

I don't want to give a bad review but I'd like to see more content. There is only 3 bosses for 9 raids then it's infinite pointless battles. Leaderboard is probably using bots to reach those numbers so new players won't try it. There is still multiple builds to try and differents mods, 50 hours before ending raids and complet rune circle on normal mod is decent for the price. Just want to see more raids or at least a scaling one to have some challenge.
