April 2025
Escape Goat is a short puzzle platformer about a Goat solving puzzles to escape a prison. Overall I enjoyed this game and it was a good challenge. I liked the levels where you have all the options in front of you, and you have to slowly maneuver your way through obstacles and press the right switches at the right time to get to the exit. The game is pretty good at giving you the “a-ha” moment, and most levels are satisfying to clear. There were some levels more focused on fast-paced platforming and reaction time, and a handful felt like I was playing Super Meat Boy again. The controls are tight and responsive, plus there are tricks you can pull to get back your mid-air jump and dash, so these levels were still really fun and rewarding. I just think some of them strayed too far from the “puzzle” aspect of a puzzle platformer. My least favorite levels were the ones that had so many moving pieces, I never actually deciphered what was going on or what the solution was - I just kind of used trial and error until I was randomly successful and could move on. But again, these are few. The little mouse buddy you can send out makes it really fun to plan out puzzle solutions, and any level with the magic hat that lets you continuously swap places with him are my favorite. The game also has an open format, so you don’t need to finish every puzzle to escape your first time. I always appreciate options. It feels like many modern indies pick one or two ideas to go all in on and polish to a sheen. Comparatively, Escape Goat definitely feels like an earlier indie - ambitious with lots of ideas, maybe lacking a little focus. Nothing mind blowing, but still pretty fun.

Very simple but reasonably fun puzzle platformer. There's some fun mechanics here. It's quite short but very cheap. Nothing exceptional about it but I enjoyed my couple hours playing it.

Very entertaining and fun game, but anyone trying to play it on high end pc should limit the screen frame rate to 60 using Nvidia control panel, otherwise the game is way too fast and unplayble.
