This is a game that has happened to stay consistent for years. I like what I've built in my game, it was very slow and tedious at times, but I really enjoy seeing the progress. Not every game needs to be action packed. Sometimes you just want to slow down and figure things out while a field of hard days labor matures in the background while you go take stock, brew booze, or roll tobacco. With that said, a few quality of life features like inventory-sort would be nice. You're giving me carpal tunnel.
Farmer’s Life is a little gem that more people should know about. It was released a some time ago (2023) but developer is still following up with minor updates and fixes. The latest was march 2026. OK you can see that it is not a big studio production. The graphics, textures and animations also show it’s age a bit and it tell the tale that focus during development was put on gameplay rather than perfecting visual elements. NPC’s and other game animations are “wooden” and static while some objects like the tractor hover above the ground. But importantly these imperfections does not change the fact that the game is very well designed and works much better than many new high budget games. If a game that includes farming simulation should be very realistic it would be boring and quite unplayable. You end up with an endless grind. The developer of Farmer’s Life has struck a good balance in this area. You may of course disagree with some of the choices devs has made to simplify, but the end result is a smooth running game that never need to end up in a grind. After you have unlocked all options you are free to chose whatever you wish to focus on. Alcohol production using resources from your farm is a key element in the game but if you rather want to focus on large scale farming of other specific products, animal husbandry or whatever combination that will also work fine. The only real weak point in the game is in the early mechanisation because two of the key horse powered equipment, the plow and the cultivator is unusable. It does not matter then that equipment like the harvester works well when horse powered, you cannot expand your farming operations until you can afford the plow and cultivator for the tractor. You start up playing in June 1956 in an eastern European post-war setting. Remains of the war is all around in form of Bunkers and broken down Tanks. You even have some ghosts of dead soldiers that can show you the way somewhere you may find something useful. Your character is an alcoholic 30 year old war veteran that has been drinking himself to ruin. He really need to clean up his act.
I’m about 20 hours in, and I have to say that I really like this game. It’s a solid farming game set around 1955, which means you’re working with older tools instead of modern high-tech equipment. At the beginning, for example, you use a horse and plough, which really adds to the atmosphere. Also, despite what some earlier ads suggested, there’s no crazy stuff with the pig. It’s simply a companion animal that can also be used for breeding with a sow. The farming itself isn’t overly complicated, but it’s satisfying and relaxing. The post-war setting also adds a nice twist. You can salvage bunkers, minefields, and tanks, which is an interesting addition for a farming game. There’s also hunting, with three different rifles from that era. Besides growing crops, you can breed animals, do woodworking, and construct buildings using a hammer and building materials. Many of these materials can be produced yourself, such as cutting trees into planks for construction. You can also cook a variety of meals, and the game features a day–night cycle and changing seasons. The character reacts to temperature, so you need to wear appropriate clothing, and of course you also have to keep an eye on hunger and thirst. All in all, it’s a decent and enjoyable farming game with a unique historical setting. Also runs fine on linux
