Wow what a game From the music to the characters to the monsters and best of all Triple Triad, FF8 completely pulled me in I spent more than 20 hours just playing that awesome card game. The connection between the characters hit me at moments I didn’t expect especially after long text dumps, one of the game’s major flaws imo. I genuinely enjoyed playing as every single one of them and I loved every bit of dialogue I could get between the party members. Laguna and the dream sequences were a highlight for me although short and confusing but nevertheless enjoyable, and Raine’s story still hurts rip. At first I have to admit I didn’t like Rinoa, but boy I was completely wrong. The ballroom scene hits different once you finish the game Watching Squall slowly open up as a person is an awesome character arc, and the romance between them is something I genuinely didn’t expect to enjoy But as the game progressed I actually started to miss Rinoa whenever she wasn’t with Squall, and whenever they were near each other I couldn’t help but smile (hopeless romantic type ♥♥♥♥). I do wish Selphie and Irvine got the same level of development, but overall: Romance: 10/10 Music: 8/10 Triple Triad: 1000/10 draw: always FF8 gave me an experience I didn’t expect emotional, weird, and tbh unforgettable. Definitely one of my top games.
My favorite Final Fantasy game. The music, GFs, fighting, monsters, junction system...it's so well done. This Remastered version is amazing. While the graphical improvements like the player models are great, the addition I love the most is the 'Game Speed Boost x3'. It's SUCH a great way to maximize what you can accomplish, save time, etc. You can use it at will. I play with an XBox controller and all I have to do is press the Left Stick and it activates. Press it again to deactivate. You can use it anywhere except for cutscenes. It's so dang useful!! There's other stuff that Remastered allows you to do, I just haven't looked into 'em. FF7 was my first FF game and I cherish it greatly (better story and characters imo), but FF8 just grabs a hold of me in more ways. I love it so so much. Highly recommend it! Especially this Remastered version. The 'Game Speed Boost x3' alone is worth it.
I love this game, but I have to be completely honest: there’s very little that feels truly “remastered” here. The environments are the original ones, the cutscenes are the original ones, the music as well. The only real improvements are the character models and a few pieces of artwork. I’m sorry, but I expected much more. It’s 2026 — updating the textures or remaking the videos in HD wouldn’t have required that much effort. This feels more like a marketing move than a genuine remaster.
Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is a nice way to revisit one of the most underrated entries in the series, but it doesn’t change much about the original experience. The story is still the same strong point. Squall’s journey and the emotional moments throughout the game still hold up well and remain one of the most memorable parts of the Final Fantasy series. The gameplay is unchanged, keeping the Junction system intact. While it still offers depth and customization, it can feel confusing or unintuitive if you’re not already familiar with how it works. The remastered visuals do improve character models and make the game more presentable on modern systems, but the changes are fairly minimal overall. It feels more like a visual refresh than a full upgrade. Overall, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is a solid way to experience the game today, especially if you want it on modern platforms. It doesn’t fix or change the core systems, but the base game is still very strong. Gameplay: 7/10 Good | Overall: 8/10 Very Good
