It's not that much better than the free version, anyone who has used FireAlpaca for a good period of time will immediately feel welcome due to the lack of new features and familiar setup though. There are a few features here that I really enjoy, most noticeably the option for a darker UI, no popup at the beginning, new brush engine along with exclusive brushes, and a more breezy, quick feeling to the program in general. Those are all nice boons and I had a good bit of fun with all of these when I first switched over to the paid version, and I still appreciate their inclusions after clocking in 50 hours. There are a few other things that this version has over the free one, the liquify tool is exclusive to this and so are layer masks, but In my opinion these two tools are very achievable in the free version if you use different methods. something that Isn't super valuable to me but I *think* was improved is the animation feature, still quite barebones as expected but the better presentation and tools FireAlpaca provides that animation software like flash doesn't makes me a little bit intrigued to use it for what that's worth. These are nice things but It's understandable if you don't consider them 40usd nice (that's 57,234.00 south korean won if u were wondering), the fact that this is a one time purchase program that's pretty feature rich and is still being worked on justifies the purchase in my eyes, and I copped this when it was 20% off, I use and appreciate FireAlpaca as a program, and I think it's great that something like this is way more modest than CSP (Crap Shoot Poop) about the barrier for entry. This is a reliable program that doesn't ask too much from you, and provides the user with a really good experience, but It should be known that the purchase you make for this program should be made with the want to support the creators of this and to show admiration for this business model, and not because you think there's going to be a vast amount of toys to tinker with as opposed to the free version.

so, i'm going to kinda just say this right now. you do NOT need to purchase this product, as the free version of firealpaca is already a very feature-ful product, and is what a lot of artists still use to this very day. but paying and actively supporting things like this, especially when you then get very helpful features such as a dark mode and easier function, it makes it much better. plus, you're supporting the people behind this to make both the free and paid versions of firealpaca better! ^_^

I've been using the free version of firealpaca for around 12 years. When this version came out, I readily bought it because I wanted to support the developers after enjoying the free version for so long. I moved my brushes over to the SE version and have tried it out for a few hours, but aside from the dark mode, there's not much difference. This version also seems to crash more often and for unknown reasons, whereas the free version only crashes if text is added to the canvas without selecting a font first. I recommend buying this as a way for free-version users to support the developers, but it should not be listed on steam as a complete product. This feels like a pre-release version of something really great. After the crashing issue is fixed, I would recommend buying SE to anyone.

EDIT: as of 20th nov, the developers have added a way to revert back to the 2.0 design. pen pressure works here. the ui isnt weird. yay! 3.0 completely revamped the ui after 10+ years of keeping the same one. why? this is like if blender were to randomly update their ui. it was fine as it was. this update is disorienting me, not to mention the fact that the stabilizer and pen pressure don't work at all. the new .mdz file makes it so that you cannot see your image in your saved files. at all. it worked with mdp, but now its a blank preview in my file explorer. ive been a user of 10+ years. imagine your entire familiar workflow being disrupted because the developers push out what they think is a "good update" only for it to be spectacularly subpar. please listen to our feedback.

It's basically the same as the free version, but this has a dark theme/mode and buying it helps to support the creator. I'd say if you liked the free version and want to support the creator, then buy SE. :3 That said, one thing I will note is if you don't open it through the Steam Client, the save options are greyed out. Not sure if intentional or glitch, but when it happened to me, opening through Steam instead of the desktop shortcut immediately fixed it, so just keep that in mind. <3
