Absolutely NAILS the aesthetic. Every bit of pre-rendered 3D, bizarre creature models, old-style shading and lighting, Myst-like point and click, creepy 90's-esque music, dungeon crawling - chefs kiss! I was totally enthralled. My only real complaint is that you'll be wanting more. It took me ~5 hours to beat. But, I suppose that's better than overstaying its welcome.

This is a game I like quite a bit, but really falls flat in a few ways that should've been a home run. The presentation and soundtrack are both phenomenal. The graphics and bits of footage you see are all really fun and add a lot to the experience. The gameplay is also shockingly fun and complex, though I thought the difficulty should've been bumped up a bit. Particularly near the end I was not struggling at all on any of the encounters in the least. If the gameplay wasn't so well done, I would've gotten really tired of it as it is almost just constant solitaire with no breaks for 4-5 hours. What I think stops this from being a great game is its story, which in my opinion leaves a lot to be desired. Without going into any spoilers, it had the makings of something interesting but not the follow-through. It was told and presented to us really well, but just lacks any real substance. You could probably guess the games deal after the opening cutscene. I kept waiting for some big twist or hard turn into somewhere else, but it just didn't happen. Ended up being a bit run of the mill, not that it was offensively bad or anything, just an average story in an otherwise great game. If it looks interesting, get it! It'll be a fun time. though a little overpriced :>
A cozy solitaire experience with very uncozy consequences
Like so many of you, I’ve been waiting (impatiently) for this one. I LOVE a good relaxed-but-creepy experience, and this really checks all the boxes in that department. But, who exactly is a violent, gory, 90’s-styled solitaire for? To answer this question, we have to analyze a couple of things. PROS First things first: the vibe is on point. If you enjoyed that grainy, unsettling aesthetic from the devs’ previous work, you’re in familiar territory, except this time it’s meaner, uglier, and a lot more grotesque. Monsters get progressively nastier, the atmosphere stays consistently eerie, and the whole thing runs through this old computer interface that makes it feel like you’ve booted up something from a distant childhood / teenage years. It’s a game inside a game, and it commits to the bit. Structure-wise, it’s super clean. Expect about 4–5 hours to wrap up almost everything (I landed 28/30 achievements without even trying to hunt them in a single playthrough). Achievements are clear, varied, and totally doable in one go, which is always a nice little dopamine loop. The game saves after each completed level too, so progression doesn't randomly go haywire if anything crashes. Regarding the gameplay, it mixes classic solitaire with combat segments where you deal damage using the same mechanics and the balance between the two is really spot on! It never feels like the game is dragging its feet, and new mechanics are introduced often enough to keep the experience fresh despite the inherent repetitiveness of solitaire. There’s also a shop system where you spend currency earned from clearing piles, giving you a solid reason to actually finish each board. It’s also surprisingly generous with options. You’ve got audio sliders, fullscreen, subtitles (including larger ones), tooltips, tutorials, accessibility toggles like visual glitch reduction, and even trigger warning acknowledgments. There’s also a detailed stats page for number nerds, and all messages are stored in the in-game computer, making it easy to revisit stuff you’ve read. CONS Now, the less great elements: this is super duper easy. Every single death I had was me messing around on purpose just to see what would happen. If you play it straight, you’ll breeze through everything (upgrades, enemies, story beats, etc.) without breaking a sweat. This is way more about soaking in the atmosphere than testing your brain. That simplicity also shows in the progression. It’s linear, and your choices don’t matter at all. You mostly follow along, complete levels, and move forward. That can be a plus if you just want a smooth ride, but it can also be frustrating when you want to experiment. I definitely tried pushing boundaries at times, and the game basically said, “Nope. Stick to the cards.” There are also a couple of missed opportunities. The game keeps nudging you to do certain things outside the game itself... but nothing actually changes if you do. I tested it multiple times hoping for a surprise, but nothing. That one stung a bit because it feels like it should’ve led somewhere fun or at least some kind of achievement. Story-wise, there’s a small narrative running in the background with some fourth-wall poking. It can get a little corny, especially if you’re familiar with similar vibes from the devs’ previous title, Home Safety Hotline ( think of the very end ). It doesn’t ruin anything, but expect a few eye-roll moments here and there. Also, if you skip text accidentally inside the actual Forbidden Solitaire, there’s no way to recover it, which feels like an odd omission considering everything else is neatly archived. Replayability is basically nonexistent. Once you’re done, you’re done. An endless mode or DLC would’ve fit perfectly here, especially given how satisfying the core loop can be. So after all this, who is it for? This game is for players who enjoy the atmosphere first and gameplay second. If you enjoy creepy visuals, unsettling tones, and a very chill solitaire experience, this will absolutely click. If you want something demanding or reactive, you might find it a bit too tame and migh look the the dev's other works. The price is a bit high to my taste, but if you want to support niche games, it's really the perfect opportunity! Those 6 hours? All in one sitting. I stayed up late but no regrets. 10/10, would absolutely not stab out my eyes with ritual daggers.

Another absolute banger from Grey Alien's card-twisted minds. Keep an eye out for an FMV cameo by Xalavier Nelson Jr of Strange Scaffold, a man VERY high on my list of "IRL devs who might actually release a cursed game"
