Sept. 2025
Gal*Gun: Double Peace is a unique blend of on-rails shooting gameplay and anime-style visual novel storytelling that embraces its eccentric premise with unapologetic enthusiasm. Developed by Inti Creates and published by PQube, the game centers around Houdai Kudoki, a high school student who becomes the accidental target of a love arrow gone haywire, causing every girl at his school to fall madly in love with him. This absurd setup creates a chaotic but humorous atmosphere where the player must fend off a barrage of overly affectionate classmates using a pheromone gun, all while trying to find their true love before the day ends. The premise is certainly unconventional, mixing romance, comedy, and action in a way that few games dare to attempt. Gameplay in Gal*Gun: Double Peace is straightforward yet surprisingly engaging. The player navigates through various school-themed levels on rails, aiming and shooting at heart-shaped weak points on characters to calm their advances. Each successful shot fills a meter that, when maxed out, triggers a special “Doki-Doki Mode,” featuring a flashy and somewhat risqué sequence unique to each character. Alongside the main mechanic, there are mini-challenges such as shooting down small imps that curse the girls, adding an additional layer of strategy and timing. While the gameplay loop might seem repetitive on paper, the game balances it with varied enemy types, branching story paths, and multiple difficulty settings that keep things fresh and challenging for those seeking a deeper experience. The narrative is delivered through vibrant, anime-inspired cutscenes and dialogue choices that determine which of several story routes the player will explore. The game features five main storylines, each focusing on different characters including the demon-hunting sisters Shinobu and Maya, who add a supernatural twist to the proceedings. The branching paths not only encourage replayability but also enrich the story world with different perspectives and character developments. Additionally, side quests and collectible items scattered throughout the levels provide incentives for exploration and completionists alike. Though the story leans heavily into ecchi tropes and fanservice, it is told with a lighthearted tone that often borders on self-aware comedy. Visually, Gal*Gun: Double Peace delivers bright, colorful character models with expressive animations that bring the cast to life. The detailed designs of the girls and their exaggerated reactions underscore the game’s playful and irreverent tone. However, the environments themselves—mostly composed of generic school hallways and classrooms—lack the same level of detail, feeling somewhat sparse and repetitive as the player progresses through stages. The game performs well on most platforms, maintaining smooth animations and steady frame rates, though some ports, particularly on handheld devices, suffer from lower texture quality and occasional performance hiccups. The voice acting, fully in Japanese, complements the anime aesthetic with enthusiastic and emotive performances, further enhancing the immersive and often comedic storytelling. Accompanying the visuals is a bubbly, upbeat soundtrack filled with catchy tunes that fit the game’s energetic mood. While the music is pleasant and memorable, the limited variety means it can become repetitive over longer play sessions. This is somewhat balanced by the frequent changes in dialogue and story sequences, which keep the player engaged on a narrative level. Sound effects—such as the clicking of shots and character reactions—are well executed, adding to the tactile feel of gameplay. Overall, the audio design supports the game’s lighthearted nature and maintains player engagement without becoming overwhelming or distracting. Reception for Gal*Gun: Double Peace has been mixed but generally positive, with particular praise from fans of the genre and those who appreciate its quirky, unabashed style. On Steam, it holds a strong “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating, indicating that its niche audience finds significant enjoyment in its blend of gameplay and humor. Critics often commend the game for its addictive mechanics and replayability, especially praising the variety introduced by the multiple story paths and difficulty settings. However, some reviewers highlight its limitations, such as simplistic environments, occasional control issues (especially on PC), and a relatively short overall length. The game’s heavy reliance on ecchi elements also means it is not for everyone, which divides opinions among a broader audience. Community feedback reflects these varied opinions, with many players embracing the game’s offbeat charm and replay value. Fans often point out the strategic depth hidden beneath the surface of what might initially seem like a gimmick-heavy shooter. The challenge of managing incoming enemies while trying to maximize score and affection meters keeps players invested, and the unlockable endings and badges provide motivation to revisit levels multiple times. On the other hand, some users express frustration with the control scheme on certain platforms, and a minority find the repetitive nature of the levels and music to be detracting from the overall experience. In conclusion, GalGun: Double Peace stands as a distinct and memorable title that thrives on its wild premise and anime aesthetics. It may not cater to everyone’s tastes, especially given its overt fanservice and niche humor, but for those willing to embrace its absurdity, it offers a surprisingly deep, enjoyable, and replayable on-rails shooter experience. The combination of lighthearted storytelling, varied gameplay mechanics, and vivid character designs make it a noteworthy entry in the genre of Japanese visual novel shooters. Whether you are drawn by curiosity, comedy, or challenge, GalGun: Double Peace delivers an experience that is both entertaining and unapologetically unique. Rating: 8/10

I bought GalGun: Double Peace* as a joke. I thought I’d play it for an hour, laugh, uninstall, and move on. That was many hours ago. What I found wasn’t just a ridiculous anime rail shooter. It was a full-blown GS(MR) rabbit hole—a game so aggressively specific and self-aware that it wraps back around into being genuinely addicting. Every level, every route, every hidden interaction practically dares you to chase 100% completion. And I will. Because I have to. Because this game has me now. Mechanically? It’s tight. Surprising, I know. Fast aiming, multiple routes, absurd unlocks, and ridiculous branching endings. It’s not a deep experience, but it’s finely tuned. Everything feels deliberate, even when it's completely insane. And when you start hunting gallery items, alternate endings, and those infamous "Doki-Doki" moments, the loop becomes dangerously satisfying. And at the center of all this chaos stands Ekoro. Not a side character. Not just a comic relief angel. She is the reason I reload saves at 2 a.m. Smart, snarky, chaotic good—Ekoro is Best Girl in a game full of exaggerated archetypes. She’s not subtle, and that’s what makes her work. Every scene with her adds energy. Every time she shows up, the game feels like it knows exactly what it is again. This isn’t for everyone. It’s definitely not for the easily embarrassed. But if you’re even remotely curious about the niche madness that is anime rail shooters with dating sim DNA, GalGun: Double Peace* is one of the best examples—and somehow, a great GS(MR) experience. I will 100% this game. Not out of duty. Out of obsession.

Honestly, I think this game is so damn fun to play! Altho I'm not really a fan of shooters (and very much not so for on-rails shooters), I think this game does a pretty good job at being fun and enjoyable to play. I also love the graphics of the game, it's probably my favourite look out of any anime game out there. With all of that said tho, you know why you checked this game out. I think all the girls in this game are pretty memorable looking maybe apart from very few non main characters here and there that looked quite similar to each other and I was surprised when I saw you can get an ending with every non main character. I did like all the main characters true endings, I thought they we're all pretty cute but now it makes me realise how lonely I am irl... oh well. I don't have too much negative to say about the game maybe apart for some of the touch games being a bit iffy, especially Maya's ones. I played the game with a controller at first but after her touch games, I saw just how much better playing it with a mouse and keyboard was. Seriously, I don't know how console players could get a good score on them with a controller. I'd definitely recommend this to people that are into pretty solid on-rails shooter games with cute anime girls, especially if you like girls that want to kiss and step on you and the only way to stop them is by using shots of euphoria. Also, the fact that there is a "mom walked in" button that changes the screen to look like and old RPG game is amazing and the game gets a 10/10 just for that since it saved me from having to explain why I'm rubbing a girls butt to help them get out of a window.

II’ll be succinct. Yes, it’s a perverted game. And yes, it’s a very dumb fun though a little easy on-rails shooter of the likes like freaking House of the Dead or good old Umbrella Chronicles. Can only trust me on this. A common run can be finished in around 2 to 3 hours. The player automatically moves through the map (there is cave even lol) and only has to focus on shooting. There are also side-missions per map on which you get extra cash that can use to buy upgrades like more damage or health. These upgrades remain as long as you use the same save. Once you start a new game, they also restart. The story is extremely simple: Dude gets overcharged by a bad shoot from a Cupid; the love energy expelling from his body is going out of control and therefore makes the female student body from the setting to seek him out to take him as their partner, so they act as "enemies" that have to be shoot with "love" too to make them momentarily stop pursuing you. The story puts emphasis on four characters, two siblings with paranormal powers, the Cupid and a Demon that is making things difficult for the other three. There are multiple endings and you can even choose any of the normal adversaries to end up with the MC. As I said earlier, game is not a really a difficult shooter. There are some way over the line mini-games to ease the flow of shooting things. You do can enhance the difficulty by playing in harder difficulties or outright self-imposed challenges like not using upgrades. Music is cool, though there are little tracks. If you don’t like anime, and or outright loathe the perverted/ecchi/sexualization in general of characters (because from a certain point of view, even the male MC gets it), don’t even try to cope your way into the series (Yes, I’m also adding the recent Metroidvanias here). These games were made as a celebration (devs’s words) of that specific genre of Japanese cartoons. The devs made the effort to craft a fun story with amusing gameplay full of the usual tropes and such, should be rated by what it offers instead of what it is. With that say if you are used to these shows or don’t mind and like on-rails shooter, give it a try; even better if you actually like old shows like To Love Ru, since the game doesn’t mind lampshading all the ridiculous clichés that come with the genre.
