Just finished the game. I played through the original like 7 times before, so I knew what to do. With the new content which are a bunch of new ghosts in old levels, 4 new-ish levels (3 entirely new, military base once again for a new finale) and new ghosts in the new levels each with their own requirements of unlocking them. All in all it took me about 9 hours to complete it. Took me a few restarts on some of the levels to unlock a few specific ghosts - looking at you, Fingers and Bridget - because the unlock conditions got scared and unreliable. Also a bunch of restarts because the recommended roster got switched up and I didn't pay attention. I basically took a wrong team into it. Levels are replayable for more Gold Plasma and Pumpkins - Oh yeah there are Pumpkins now! More on them in a moment - In the original, if I recall correctly, you would only top off on Gold Plasma when you got a new highscore on a previously visited location. Gold Plasma is needed to buy more powers for your team. Considering there is a hard cap, you could never buy ALL the powers for ALL your ghosts. You would often stick to a team and barely ever change it, unless you find a new ghost that fills a niche and is very versatile or just very powerfull on its own. This on its own also makes the game more replayable. You are awarded a bunch of Gold Plasma and 3 Pumpkins (You can probably get between 0-3 depending on your performance, but I have never gotten less than 3) after each level. There is a new skilltree to spec into in the hub level, most of those skills costing 6 Pumkings each, 3 super skills each to the left and to the right that cost more and all the way to the end the ultimate skill - another ghost slot. By the time I played throug each level once, I have skilled all the way to the left side, I am basically two thirds through. What I like The price! At the point of writing, the winter sale it is currently a whopping 50% off! That is about 10 bucks and if you have nostalgia for this game, go right ahead! The music! Never gets old. I think they even added a few more tracks when you are about to chase off your last few mortals. You can respec your ghosts taught powers! In the old game you were stuck with your choice, this makes all your ghosts more versatile and you can experiment. The gameplay on is just so good and addicting! Nostalgia! The reason most people would pick this up. What I do not like The take the recommended team button got tinkered with. Not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thing as it is a big plus in trying different combinations. Unlike in the original, where you would get a static team that is well suited for the task at hand as well as unlocking the new ghosts in the level, this one seemingly gets you a random team every time. I think I also recall it giving me a team that would absolutely not get me a ghost unlocked, if I recall correctly, so I had to change. I am not the biggest fan on the graphics. What I want to say is, I liked the old jagged looks better. It had it's own charme. It is also rather taxing on my system. It is outdated I admit, but the remake of a game from the 2000s should not bring my gpu from 8 years ago to 80% at all times. Also, what is the UI in the options? A slider for basically everything, EVEN the language settings is a bit questionable. The marketing. Seriously I did not know this game exists until 2 days ago when I bought it. I was randomly browsing through steam and found this by pure chance. I LOVE Ghost Master and had no idea this existed! To be fair, the original came out in 2003 and I had no clue there is work done on a remaster, so I wasn't looking for anything, but I bet there are a lot more people that love the original that have no clue this exists. In a world where sadly a lot of remasters end up as moneygrabs, this one shines through through passion and staying itself. Highly appreciated. At this point the game is a solid 8/10 for me.

Lots and lots of bugs. Pretty much every stage I am having to repeat becone once I finish it it wont end. For some reason the game is not recognizing when all people are insaine. And just keeps going. Only advice to get because I want to support this game and see sequels but honestly I would wait for a few bug fixes. As right now it is painful when I get a run where i drive everyone insaine and the game just keeps going and does not register I completed the map. It just came out a few months ago if they have not pushed major bug fixes in a few months I would probably advice buying the first game. Many less bugs.

Ghost Master has long been one of my favourite games, simply because of its uniqueness. The plot, the mechanics, the puzzles - everything about it is interesting and different to all the other run of the mill RPGs and simulators out there. I was very pleased when the game was updated with this remastered edition. Same great gameplay, same retro graphics, but finally compatible with newer systems. This is a game that is worth upgrading, and worth replaying time and again.

Alright, I’m going to write this review in English to reach as many Ghost Master fans (and new ones!) as possible ^^ I’ve finished it 100%, unlocking every ghost - including the new ones and… yeah, it’s great to return to this childhood game, really. And yes, I know this remake is made a bit… poorly? But not really - I’ll try to explain that in this review. First, I’ll talk about how I felt, what I liked, what I didn’t like, and at the bottom you’ll find a summary with plus (+) and minus (-) points. Gameplay & Impressions I started this game with a skeptical mindset - I didn’t want to instantly criticize it, but I also didn’t want to ignore the bugs I found along the way. Overall, the acts were really fun - very smooth! Sometimes too smooth, actually. Here’s what I mean: there are some levels where you need to use the Fool’s Errand power to force mortals to go to certain areas they normally wouldn’t. For example, in Deadfellas, using that power on the chef makes him go straight into Fingers’ room - while in the og Ghost Master, it was super hard to make the chef go there. I had to use Boo and chain powers just to get him inside! Honestly, I don’t think that’s a bad change - it was really annoying before, and now it feels easier. Same thing in The Unusual Suspects: before, you had to scare a bunch of mortals before Detective Norman Franz would steal the money from the briefcase. Now you only need to scare Officer Andrew Haid for Norman to grab the cash. In Summoners Not Included, I found a funny harmless bug - when you click on the Darkling at the end, he uses Wendel’s dialogue! Totally unexpected xd <3 Sometimes mortals can get stuck in objects (like chairs), but it only happened once for me. Thankfully, if you scare that mortal, the mission still completes, so you don’t need to restart (thankfully). The Epilogue boss is super well made and I enjoyed it a lot! You actually have to deal damage to him, not just rely on Sparkle - and that was awesome. Act IV is also really well done. I love the way you unlock new ghosts; Azrael was one of my favorites because you have to cause a car crash to free him, which was such a cool idea. Night of the Screen is my favorite location; I love it so much <3 <3 Balance & Ghosts Oh! and they buffed the Poltergeists! They now have fetters not only to Child but also to Madness, so the ghost is actually usable now <3 And in Act IV locations, you can finally find spots for Poltergeists and Sandmen, since most objects now have Child and Sleep fetters ^^ AI Usage & Dev Notes I’m aware they used AI for posters and voices, which… yeah, I don’t like. The Deadfellas poster especially is nightmare fuel. But I saw they’re planning to replace it with an actual hand-made poster - can’t wait for that ^^ And honestly, I feel like people hate too much on the devs. It’s a small Polish studio, and we should be glad this remake even exists. The devs took up the challenge to remake this game, and I even reported a few bugs I found to one devs; which most of them gonna be fixed Is the game perfect? Nope. But at least something new came out for Ghost Master fans - and that’s awesome in itself. Pros (+) Graphics are clean, and the lighting effects look great. The new interface is enjoyable. Buffed ghosts like Poltergeists; finally fun to use them <3 New locations are fun (though Carnival of Horror is a bit too huge ^^'). New ghosts! Cons (-) AI-generated posters; still nightmare fuel. (But once they replace them, I’ll remove this minus.) AI voices… some are okay, but others (like Baumann) sound horrible. He literally sounds like a TikToker on too much dopamine xd Bugs; they’re slowly being fixed. Thankfully, none of them break the game or cause softlocks. Final Thoughts The remake isn’t perfect, but it’s a solid return of a cult classic. There’s heart behind it, and it’s clear the devs care - they just need time to polish it. For me, it’s been a nostalgic and surprisingly fun experience <3

DISCLAIMER I see a few negative reviews talking about the presence of bugs, and whether or not this remaster was "necessary". With that in mind I'd like to say: It's an Early Access game - a real one, not a marketing ploy one - so temper your expectations on that information, and it does manage to improve on the original in a few areas so if not 100% necessary, then definitely worthwhile. A Great and Uneven Game Gets a Second Chance I'm a big fan of the original game, let's be 100% clear on that. My views will be biased (admittedly both negatively and positively) by the fact that this game was a huge part of my childhood. I remember getting to pick one game for my birthday, and the big green box (still on my office shelf) that promised ghosts and ghouls galore won be over with its cover review / slogan that promised to put the Sims "six feet under". I spent hours on the original Ghostmaster. Days. Weeks. Maybe even months (although let's not be too hasty on that maths). It was a game unlike any other, that scratched a particular itch and "tism" that any child who was obsessed with monsters and the things that go bump in the dark might have. It was a masterpiece of creativity that you just don't see anymore in the major game dev sphere. But my dog, was it a buggy mess at times. Even with its re-release on Steam (still available as a purchase at the time of writing) the original game had levels revolving around RNG puzzles that could take 2 minutes or 2 hours to complete. It had glitches that prompted swift restarts to levels through no fault of the player, and (perhaps most egregiously) it lacked a true ending level to wrap up the story. The latter was a production issue caused by a lack of sales cancelling plans for a sequel, and was fixed by the devs with a free release of a patch containing bug fixes and a final level to play through. And this was in the mid-2000s, the first time I'd ever seen a game update like it (Oblivion and Horse Armour was still 3 years away). The layers of film references in character and ghost backgrounds and level titles just go to show how much fun the devs have had, and that funtransfers over to the player. It was really a labour of love from the team behind it, and it shows in the game itself. Bugs and all, it's a riot. So what about this remaster? Graphical Ghostly Gravitas Honestly, I was surprised at how good the game looks. As visual resurrections go, the attention to detail is second to none. Ghostly friends that I've come to know over the years so well that I could draw them from memory have had a glow-up. The transparency effects add to their glowing green ectoplasmic face lifts, and the details on their haunting animations have all been spiced up. Getting a bunch of ghosts together to chain powers into a cataclysmic storm has never looked so good. Easier Ectoplasmic Experience Some quality of life changes have made the game (no other way to say it) easier. True I've spent a lot of time with the original game and know how to sail its stormy seas of quirks and bugs, but even so. Ghosts with unique haunting moves (the solution to many levels puzzles as well as scaring tools) have mostly been made redundant, as all ghosts of each haunter class (the games skill system) have access to all moves from that class - so long as you upgrade them. What that means is, for returning players, you don't need to unlock the hidden elemental spirit Bonzai to drop the tree in Act 2's "Summoners Not Included", you can just upgrade Stonewall the starting earth elemental spirit. Ultimately, this isn't the end of the world. These things happen when games get remade for new audiences. Even so, it's a bit of a drawback for me. But I do love the implementation of trophies and even more hidden ghosts to discover , so that evens out - maybe even weighs more on the positive. With the addition of these new spirits it's already clear that, like the original, this game is made form a place of love. Unnatural UI Upgrades Perhaps the one negative part of this remaster is the changes made to the UI. While making adjustments for an expanded screen resolution (a blessing) some changes have been made that are less user friendly than in the original. Point and click menus have become less than intuitive, and an errant mouse tap will close a menu down before you can quickly relay an order to a ghost in the field. Even positive changes have frustrating effects. Before each haunt, you can now view the map for 2 minutes without starting the level through spectral scouting (great for deciding which ghosts to bring along), but the game removes the UI so you have no idea how to explore the map's floors without knowing the keyboard shortcuts beforehand. A small error, but indicative of the games Early Access feel. Is it Worth It? For returning players? Maybe on sale - if you still have the original to dabble in. For new players? Well worth it at full price. The full game is currently available, and later levels are getting some much needed TLC. It's definitely a game worth jumping into and spend some time in the company of the dead. TLDR The Remaster is almost as good as the original, and maybe with less bugs. It's a little easier, which takes from the charm. If you've never played the original, this is an ideal more modern alternative to experience a fun and unique game.
