TL;DR: A punishing but well-crafted stealth game, Goblin Vyke is a must-have for stealth game enthusiasts. Just, maybe play on easy difficulty first to reduce frustration with the game. --- We really haven't had a good dedicated stealth game in some time. So Goblin Vyke is most welcome addition to a long legacy of stealth focused games such as Thief: the Dark Project, Metal Gear Solid, and Mark of the Ninja and so on. Considering Goblin Vyke was made by a team of three, this is an impressive achievement. The game is a platformer (some would say Metroidvania), but since you CANNOT attack directly in any form, getting past hostiles/obstacles will rely on your scouting, strategising and cunning. You'll unlock various staples of platformers/metroidvanias (double jump, air dash, grappling hook, you get the idea) which give you mobility, as well as various tricks to hide and trick hostiles. Beret of direct offense, you're going to be depending on your own cunning and speed. Having said that, boy do I suck at this game, haha. The game specifically encourages you to keep pushing for more phat loot... and if you overextend yourself and you be left with ashes instead. I'm so greedy that I keep getting punished for my greed. On the art, do note that the developers had outsourced the art to an external artist. Did the external artist use AI? Maybe. But the game devs have plausable denial of culpability. I'm willing to forgive a small team even if they used AI for their first game. Maybe pay for a better artist next time, now that you've made a little money through this game game devs?

10/10 recommend. If you find the game very hard, here are some tips for new players: - Check the journal, make sure you can pay the rent - Use your items in Dungeon - heal, get buffs, or even place negative items onto enemies - Stock up and add to your backpack before your runs - Use bones - lots of bonuses from Bones, such as Luck, will help you get better loot This is a very enjoyable game once you get the hang of the learning curve. The gambling, shop management, employee and business mechanics, combined with the stealth looting and high-risk > high-reward gameplay at night is a great loop. I liked Dave the Diver for this reason, but this game is in fact much better. It has more soul, doesn't feel repetitive, and a lot of thought went into the game. If you read recent announcements, you'll see the Devs are hard at work with game balancing and listening to their community. They are doing great, and deserve your money. If it really comes down to it, and you're finding it very difficult, you can always save scum (sorry devs). There are times where, for me anyways, it's been necessary. Keep updating the game. I'm about 10 hours in, and have lots of gameplay left.

Very creative gameplay. The negative reviews are mostly targeting the mortgage in early game, where I disagree. After the update, the mortgage has been significantly reduced and you can enjoy the game with less stress. The devs are pretty responsive and the bug fixes and updates are quick.

This is a solid game overall, especially if you enjoy stealth-based gameplay. The main idea is simple: sneak around, steal items, and try not to get caught. If that sounds like your kind of playstyle, you’ll probably have a good time with it. As you play, you can upgrade your mask to get boosts and perks that make sneaking and stealing easier. There are different difficulty modes too—personally, I tried the bold mode (basically hard mode), and it’s really tough to upgrade in that setting. I think easy mode is better for most players, but if you like a challenge, the harder modes will definitely test you. The core gameplay loop is stealing items and then selling them, where you can even haggle your way to making more money. You can also hire workers to steal for you, which is a cool feature and helps you progress faster. That said, there are some frustrating parts. One big issue is that you can’t go back to previous floors. Once you move on, you’re stuck there. This caused a problem for me when one of my hired workers (a goblin I paid 1 coin) died—I thought I could go back and save them, but you can’t. That really needs to be fixed. It would be great if workers lasted longer or if you could return to earlier stages to rescue them. Another warning: when you see BOLD mode, just know it’s basically hard mode. The modes below that are even worse—honestly, they feel like “extreme” or “hell” difficulty. Only pick those if you’re okay with struggling and possibly going into heavy debt. Speaking of debt, there’s also a greedy banker who shows up every 4 days. If you don’t pay, it might be game over (I’m not 100% sure yet, but it seems that way). The pressure is real, especially when upgrades get expensive—like 4,000 coins for a third upgrade. The difficulty balancing definitely needs some work. What I liked: Fun stealth gameplay loop Upgrades and progression system Hiring workers adds strategy No lag, runs smoothly What I didn’t like: Can’t go back to previous floors Workers die too easily with no way to save them Difficulty feels unbalanced Not much customization (no skins, clothes, or store upgrades) Limited interaction (no combat options at all) I also wish there were more customization options—like changing your character’s look or upgrading your store visually. Right now it feels a bit plain, but the game definitely has potential if the developers add more content. Final Thoughts: If you like stealth games where you avoid enemies instead of fighting them, it’s worth trying. Just be prepared for some frustrating moments, especially with the difficulty and progression. Ratings: Game: 8/10 (for now) Fun: 7/10 Performance: No lag, runs well Story: Decent (you’re paying off debt, but it’s not very detailed) Overall: 7/10 Recommendation: Play it if the gameplay sounds interesting to you. It’s not perfect, but it’s a fun change of pace and has a lot of potential if it gets more updates.
