Don't really play visual novels but I saw the creator on instagram so I decided to give it a shot and just wow. That ending is one of the most heartbreaking and emotional scenes that I've read in my time playing games. Also the way this game decribes the feeling of worthlessness and the feeling of being a burden is scarely accurate. I recommend this game to anyone with three of hours to spare. And the lesbian fungle hivemind who will never make you feel alone again is great too. Music also is brillant

I feel like there's a lot of unneeded dialog in this game. It goes on tangents a lot, spewing from completely unrelated things. Sometimes it does add on to the story, but a lot it just feels unnecessary. I do also love Mr. Browne, but his last scene is really unnecessary. Just 20 minutes that add nothing to the story. And at the ending there were 4 points when I thought it was gonna end (when it really could've), and it just kept going. To be fair, what it continued to say was interesting, it did just feel like a bit much though. I do still recommend this game though, because the good parts were SO good. I cried multiple times reading this. It's a tragic and beautiful story about wanting to be loved, but struggling to accept love and kindness at the the same time. I relate to it far too much, and it was a real tear jerker. The art is gorgeous (I took so many screenshots), and the characters are so well written. It's such a good game, it just can be annoying to get past all of the bloated parts. Without those parts, it'd be an easy 10/10, but even with them it's still a solid 9/10. I'll be thinking about this game for a very long time.

Oh I really like this one, a solid mood piece and I walked away feeling much more universal in my praise than Rituals in the dark which I had some reservations with at the end. Her love like poison is a full win for me. Not just as a lesbian monster ♥♥♥♥♥♥, though monster ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the story includes which I was surprised but pleased to see. It's got a great atmosphere, the whole vibe of the little town they are in feels wet and decaying like old wood. It matches much of what I felt visiting some of the small forgotten towns in north England myself, where the economy had abandoned the village and its people years ago, leaving those in it trapped. Its extremely gothic in its vibes and the inspiration from Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s Mexican Gothic shows in a great way. I also like the vibe of toxicity both in the monster and everywhere else, especially in the lead. Ethel’s so clearly not a reliable perspective, constantly seeing the worst in everyone, especially herself. The world around her growing up, all the small comments from parents and bullies slowly poisoned her just as The Girl seems to be now. This toxicity has left her permanently sure of her own failure, convinced of her flaws in a way that's clearly self fulfilling. In a way she was so full of poison, I’m fully convinced it more than anything killed her relationship with Clementine. Trying to love someone who is categorically sure they are unloveable is as toxic a substance as The Girls’ kiss I think. And this poison in still killing her. Without that suicidal craving for affection, need to be valued, be affirmed, be seen by The Girl, or hell anyone, I doubt the siren could have gotten to her. She could have forced it? But could she have, this mushroom creature clearly falling apart? Or had the unseen toxins injected in little ways all her life made it inevitable. Idk I found this idea, one that meshed well. Then there is the question of is it so bad? If she is so convinced of self hatred that only the total obliteration of the self, the loss of the separation between you and I, is the only thing that can make the idea she is loved sink in, maybe it's for the best. Maybe it's better to live on as a part of a whole than as a ghost only seen in unwanted tea packets and porcelain dolls no one likes. Or maybe it’s just hot to be locked in the eternal mushroom mind palace orgy with your 10 other girlfriends who are all also you. All I know is I think I’m going to do better about cleaning my shower from here on out. Never know when the mold might gain sapience.

[I] Her Love, Like Poison was an emotional read, mostly in a negative way though but it felt not that bad really. It's way better than indifference anyway. And I honestly don't mind when smth can evoke powerful emotions within me. Though I felt a tad poisoned myself with all that anger, annoyance and hatred I was forced to experience :) SPOILERS ahead... The story is short but atmospheric and as usual well-written. The main character was so unbearable I'd have quit quite soon if not a superb ebi-hime's writing. For me it was the most enjoyable part. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3600930477 So, about the protagonist (-‸ლ) I really tried hard to sympathize with her. I guess she has a number of traits that can make her relatable at first glance, like no energy to write her thesis, pain from the breakup, feeling that no one understands you etc... But soon enough all her incessant ramblings becomes infuriating. She keeps repeating her age again and again in different situations as if trying to persuade herself and me, as a reader, what an adult she already is at the age of 21 O_o But nope, her behavior and way of thinking is still way too immature, selfish AND stupid. Especially disgusting was the moment when she lied AGAIN to a sincerely caring person and after a fleeting twinge of guilt justified her deceit with the fact that she doesn't owe him anything O_o That's it! We have to be indebted to behave like a decent person(-‸ლ) I'll always choose a blunt, frank and even rude person to a lying, pretending hypocrite. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3601865042 She doesn't seem to appreciate at all how lucky she is to have nice, loving parents, yeah, right, they are too different, they don't share or understand her interests and they may be not always considerate but isn't it this way all the time for all families due to that inevitable generation gap?! They still try their best to provide her with everything she needs like paying for her violin lessons and spending lots of time driving her to the private teacher. Is mc even grateful for that? Accepting her tragic fate without any fight at all at the end of the story, enjoying her delusional 'happiness' does she ever spare at least a fleeting thought to her family who must be still grieving her or even keep searching for her in the woods?! Or what about her teacher who tried to warn her and talk against going into the forest at night. Has she ever thought about all his efforts?! Nope! Never! She's too self-centered, she's the only one she cares about. I'm all for healthy egoism myself. But after all her constant complaints that others don't care about her enough … It IS hypocritical to demand smth from others that you can't do yourself and she called herself an adult(-‸ლ) Welp, because of her revolting attitude I also stopped caring quite soon. And finally about her ex-girlfriend... That poor, patient girl must have really loved her to tolerate that infuriatingly deprecating attitude for the whole year... I know how it feels to deal with wet blankets and naysayers. If a person sees only negativity, no reassuring and encouraging can fix anything. Their wild imagination is too powerful in this regard making up countless excuses why they don't deserve to be happy and are doomed to fail. Such people need professional help. She can't be excused as someone suffering from depression because of that breakup, her issues are more serious and she had to deal with them way before that split-up. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3603897095 Unfortunately, I spoiled myself that plot twist at the store page:( But though it wasn't surprising anymore I still found that part enjoyable. I was always fascinated with mushrooms. My mum likes to pick them and we lived near the forest, too. I was never good at that myself but I love eating them. Though as a vegan I question myself occasionally if it's actually right. Mushrooms are such curious creatures, even classified into a separate kingdom by scientists as they have features of both plants and animals. The way that collective existing works is truly amazing. So remembering all that it was exciting to read the final parts, though again I was annoyed how weak mc was. I even wished it wasn't a linear novel and I could influence anything. Starting from the very first decision to go to Australia with family, lol, and at the very end to fight for maybe miserable but real existence. Welp, despite lots of intense negative emotions it was a pleasant read. Such depressing things inspire me to be more proactive if mc couldn't. And btw it WAS depressing indeed to read how life isn't valued at all, how sick, infected mind prefers to be devoured for the sake of the illusion of being needed... When I'm shown so vividly how wrong someone's choices and world perception are I feel motivated to choose the opposite :D More thoughts about the game in a [url=https://steamcommunity.com/groups/readingnook/discussions/0/761797931977147867/] Reading Nook
