Pirated it but ended up wanting to buy it within a hour of gameplay just out of support. The aesthetic is very reminiscent of those cheesy karate/kung-fu movies from the 70s-80s but in a good way. While the game doesn't have the best translation, it really adds onto the aesthetic and charm as if you're playing some random Japanese retro game from the past. The plot, main character, & setting reminds me of Shenmue. This game also reminds me of Hajime No Ippo the anime in a sense. The background art of the different dojos & environments is fire, the OST while repetitive, is a good OST nonetheless and I have yet to turn it off. Very addictive gameplay loop. XP system is simple but effective. The fighting controls is very fun & satisfying to play with how you control each limb. While arcadey, there's many aspects of realism to the gameplay and you can tell the devs actually love the martial art of Karate. As for the training minigames, while some are button mashy, it's very fun to play nonetheless. In addition to that, the forklift work minigame I never really get tired of. May or may not be too grindy for you, depends on you as a person/gamer. Overall, this game is fire and a must play in my own opinion, and I don't even like retro fighting games such as Street Fighter or Tekken that much. I'd definitely wait for it to go on sale because If you finish the game, there probably isn't much replay ability unless you start all over again. Isn't worth $9.99 but I definitely don't regret spending it.

I like the gameplay and concept altogether. I wish there were more to do involving the dojo and perhaps other events (I wrote about requested features in the discussion workshop). Overall though, for a mindless beat 'em up karate game, it has surprising depth to the mechanics and how they affect combinations. You also have to watch out for you head, leg, and body health. I've been playing it every time I get in front of the monitor (with my controller, but not required), which is about 11 hours at this point. On my second campaign character. Awesome and tough grind, but it pays off later in the game. I give this a 8.5-9 out of 10 because of how surprisingly good it is for only 10 bucks!

A rough and unfinished jewel of a fighting game that does a pretty respectable job of summarizing the 70s and early 80s of fighting karate in Japan, with enough fun pop culture references to draw in the casuals. Absolutely worth it and fulfills the promise that the SNES game "Ultimate Fighter" (Hiryū no Ken S: Golden Fighter / 飛龍の拳スペシャル ゴールデンファイター) much better than many games.

Good fun. More technical than street fighter. Has real martial arts, forms, labels, practices. Kudos! Storyline reminiscent of 80's movies, specifically Bloodsport. Pacing is good. Has some cons. Training minigames can be a drag, but are interesting and mostly real practices. Translation is bad but is often funny because of it. Note that none of the achievements work. Sad but has been problem for while with no responses from dev. Would love to see a sequel.

Bought this game on a whim and it was money well spent. Games like this show how simple it is to make a great game. The story is cheesy in that good way. Gameplay is fun, Mini games are great, and the progression feels awesome. Definitely a must have for anyone who enjoys old-school 80s martial arts movies
