I sometimes find it hard to believe this game was made by the same person who made those "Ultimate (insert animal) Simulator" games. And this is one of (if not the first) game that he's made in unreal engine, and for that I can say that this is a great game for what it is.

Its a fun, simple and goofy fighting game featuring dinosaurs. so in other words, an amazing game. For only having 1 developer this is seriously fun! Only wish is that there would come a multiplayer in the future!

Kings of bones seems like a promising game but it definitely needs some improvements to be considered good. Pros: The dinosaurs that rely on charges and tail attacks are really well implemented they feel powerful when they send an opponent flying and you can see every hit hurts. Ankylosaurus is very fun in this game which is good because I love them. Pouncing dinosaurs are pretty fun aswell its great to grapple onto an enemy and go ham however they are a little jank when playing against a parsaurolophus my velociraptor would ragdoll while grappled on which looked goofy. The damage looks great I love how the blood surrounds you dinosaurs main form of attack and how wounds form on your body. The game is very pretty with great animation and environments. The music is pretty good and the dinosaurs sound good. I like the ui and menus especially how you get to see your dinosaur in the select screen. The ai is inteligent and doesnt smush together in large battles. They act like animals heck Ive seen two herbivores on different teams work together against my giganotosaurus great job on that I see a lot of effort in that department. This makes spectator mode very good especially with all the options. The selection of creatures is amazing so many of the coolest dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures. Cons + how I would fix them: All the modes are very gimmicky. Theres nothing wrong with them inherently but the game has a lack of a main mode these all feel like side modes. I think the game would greatly benefit from a normal battle mode where you choose the dinosaurs you wish to play and fight and get to choose between team battles and one on ones. A good training mode which I believe is being planned would be good as its allows for people to experiment and just chill. Biting doesn't feel as good as the other attacks. This isnt a problem for chargers and tail attackers but it makes cool dinosaurs like giganotosaurus and tyranosaurus rex feel weak. Its very simple very much like path of titans (I havent played many other dinosaur survivals for a good enough time for comparison) except at least they have bone breaking and bleed which adds flare. This game does not have this. I feel to improve this a bit grab mechanic which I have already discussed with the dev would be good. After playing though I have a good idea how I personally want this to implemented. If you tap the bite you do the normal attack but if you hold your dinosaur holds open and you can release it for a bite grab. From here you can spam the attack button to try and tear of a chunk of their flesh or even take a body part for big damage the longer you tear the more damage and dismemberment requires a lot more tearing especially if you have a low bit power, hold the attack button again to do the final pull. The enemy can stop this though by spamming a (I played it on steam deck so the bottom button of the main four on the right side) so you use a lot more stamina. This takes stamina too but less since the damage from a bit grab is big. I feel this will add stamina management so you try to tire out your opponent before taking them out. The games has a few bugs nothing bad though, heres some I found: The already mentioned ragdoll pounce. Sometimes dinosaurs in large groups will push eachother through the floor when their intro plays. Nitpick but protocerotops has a low bite power despite it being known for its strong bite? Things I would like to see: A chill mode where you can just enjoy the details and spawn in a dinosaur when you want to fight would be good I have already asked about this in more detail in the discussions page so I wont repeat myself. But even just a training mode with lots of options so I can enjoy the map and even set up cool pictures would be good, then jump into combat when I feel like it with custom settings like infinite health on me or the opponent, which even just a simple one with ai options would be something that should definitely be added. More defensive play. I have seen discussion on dinosaurs having stronger parts and weaker parts for example my own idea ankylosaurus has really strong armour but a weak belly and can get into a defensive stance that defends from forward attacks really well but leaves it open to charges from behind and a successful block allows for a strong counter. And tricerotops for example could have something similar but maybe an impale counter attack. Would be cool to have dinos with defensive and aggressive playstyles. I would also like to see local multiplayer I am already aware online is out of the question but split screen one on one battles would be good and I believe certain features on steam allow for this to become online. And I feel this would be a staple with my friends and might surpass smash bros due to the beginner friendly combat especially with some improvements I have mentioned. Conclusion: While at the moment I feel the game isnt the best it could be but thats why its in early access right? Adding the modes I mentioned would make it good in my opinion adding the combat mechanics (especially the bite improvements) would make it amazing. And adding all improvements mentioned might make it my favourite dinosaur game surpassing lego jurassic park. I hope this review gets my opinions across on the game well and I hope you are able to add some of the things mentioned. One last thing I heard early access would be 3 months, I think this game could become really good with the right improvements so if certain things like game mechanics which are a big ask might take longer I think extending that period could be very beneficial for the game especially if it is to improve combat in dinosaur games. But overall I think the game is still worth the money even if it is for the spectator mode as it is very cheap. UPDATE: Training mode has been added and it is basically a custom mode it is very good and fun. Heabutts, tail attacks, stomping and pouncing have all been greatly improved. They are all chargeable this debuffs headbutts as you cant spam them anymore as you must charge it up at least a little, and have to stragetically use them by spacing and timing. Tail attacks and stomps got a major buff as being able to charge them to increase their damage and stun is very good and adds to the oomph. Pouncing has been fixed and has a similar charge mechanic now you don't ragdoll madly as the physics are far more realistic and pouncing requires good position and angling of the head to get lots of attacks in to build up stun and damage. It is also a lot easier to land these attacks while locked on and off (for a bit of time during the chargeable headbutt update locking on wasn't very useful and tail attacks required you to move in the direction of the swing to ever hit) so its a lot more fun. Biting has also been improved with a combo which also adds claw attacks sometimes like for spinosaurus. While it isn't a good as it could be it still has been improved and basic snaps and swipes are in a really good state. I hope the charge feature is also implemented for bites so you can latch on and tear at opponents potentially which I think many do want. Obviously this hasn't even had the chance to be added as many other improvements which are more important as they refine the base mechanics, and add a great mode were being made first. On the topic of tearing you can also throw opponents who are stunned if they are smaller than you which is great fun. You can also tear while grabbing smaller stunned opponents but it doesn't do much damage but you can thrash them which is awesome. But overall the game has had massive improvements and it is definitely more fun to play. All the modes are good especially training and spectator mode for me and with the improved mechanics I can definitely recommend this to someone as an overall good game. I am excited for the future of the game.

Well this was an unexpected but immensely appreciated surprise! Finally a fresh idea that has never been explored before (as far as I know): a dinosaur fighting game that is heavily based on physics! Specifically, this means that every single blow has an effect that is only partially predictable, because it depends on many factors, the majority of which cannot be directly controlled, such as the angle, the force, and even the accumulated kinetic energy, much like in real life, but purposedly exaggerated of course. Nothing is scripted, and this makes every fight incredibly fun and spectacular. Everything feels alive and pulsating, to a degree I never experienced before in a dinosaur-themed game. And the best thing is that everything is available from the start, you don't need to unlock anything, just pick your favorite dinosaur from the incredibly rich roster and directly jump into action! There are many many dinosaurs to choose from, and they all look very detailed and colorful, although I already warn you that if you are looking for scientific accuracy you are in the wrong place! A very nice touch is that each species has a special ability that depends on its "category": there are chargers, clingers and tail users. Each category requires a different strategy not only to be used, but also to be defeated, and this introduces some variety to a gameplay that inevitably becomes a bit repetitive after a while (this of course cannot be avoided in any fighting game). Also, the arenas and the music are both gorgeous, a pleasure to hear and look at! It is also important to mention that the developer is very active, and I might say very clever too, since every single update so far dramatically improved the game, in particular the controls, that were too janky at launch. Now every dinosaur can be controlled very smoothly, fighting feels like a breeze! Overall, this game is for me a childhood dream come true, so I IMMENSELY recommed it to all dinosaur fans, without second thought. Cheers guys!

very fun combat, but i wish there was an open world option where you could naturally find and fight other dinosaurs in a big map
