Just wanted to give my middle-aged gamer guy's highly subjective take on this game. Take it for what its worth. This game came out of nowhwere and completely consumed my limited precious gametime. I couldn't put it down and when I wasin't playing I was thinking about it, anticipating when I could jump back in. The old school approach and design really got my imagination kicked into overdrive. It's rare for a game nowadays to give me the level of immersion this one did. The game expertly portrays a focused fun/campy narritive indicitve of the overall 80s tone targeted. While also allowing for breathing room for you to fill in gaps in your mind in an exoteric way that creates an enjoyable personal connection to the world, setting and charaters presented. Furthermore, every aspect of this game from the color pallet down to the absolute banger of a soundtrack is just oozing with an ambient fantastical 80s neon. I adore this setting and every bit of it here simply struck all the right cords for me. The gameplay was tight engaing and fun. The overall runtime of the game also made sure tedium could not get a foothold. My only complaint I had that stood out to me was this. (Maybe spoilery here I dunno) Being my nerdy self and injecting myself into the story as I do, I did not make a pact with Charon when meeting him, and not once in my playthrough did I make use of his service. (I didint trust him) I kind of felt this diserved an achievement, in game nod or something. Anyways If you enjoy the vibes of 80s movies like the Blob remake, Night of the Creeps, or even Return of the living dead I recommend you give this game a shot. Or if you are looking for a modern game that does not beat you over the head trying to impress you with extreme HD visual spectacle and allows your imagination to work for you like the good old games of yore I recomend you give this game a shot. Or if you just love the 80s setting. that, lets face it, has basically beomce a unique fantasy setting in its own right then definitely give this game a shot. Im absolutely glad I did casue here I am months later after completing it and its still marinating in my mind. Enough to write up my thoughts on it in a review that may or may not be helpful to anyone. My hats off to the creators of this game, this is a game I will revisit from time to time just to soak in all fun vibes and good times like I similarly do with the aforementioned 80s movies. On that note now Im planning time for another playthrough soon.

Diablo meets Stranger Things. Sounds intriguing? Actually, it turned out so well that after beating the game and unlocking all the achievements, I experienced that long-forgotten feeling when you don't wait impatiently for the game to end, but instead feel sad that it's over. Music is phenomenal. Aesthetics of 80's hits hard. A solid 10/10, one of the best games I've played in a while.

hmmmmm, get it on a discount. - great art direction, but a large portion of your time will be spent in the ugly sewer levels, it is also tedious to navigate it and between EACH sewer section. seriously a lot of sewage. I cannot really appreciate the rest of the map because somehow 1 way or another I end up back at the sewer. - diverse character with their own set of personality, its like your living thru a 80's teen horror movie, which I guess is what they were going for. - gameplay is weak, melee feels it design more towards boss encounters and skills feel pretty situational, leading to encounters with mobs just button mashing, gets boring quick. you have a non-combat mode and combat mode, which means it will take a moment to switch between each mode. the auto-lock is your worse enemy. Cannot comment on the magic side since I do not feel like rerolling to experience it. - side quest is pretty interesting and fun imo - currently the very little guide available on this game so if your stuck on anything good luck trying to finding any help. - felt like the game was design to be played multiple times but honestly I do not feel like replaying after playing it once with all the cons I listed. a novelty that you only need to experience. they got the foundation for a good game, but I can't imagine them fixing all the issue I listed. I hope the team use this experience and improved on it in their next venture.

I will start this review with a couple of negative things about the game: First, the archetype system for classes. I like it in theory, but not being able to change or respec for the entire game is a bit of a problem. If you want to try a different build, or playstyle, or decide you actually would have preferred sorcerer to necromancer, as I realized, you have to replay the entire game. I don't really have time for that. Like how you can reset your skill points, changing archetypes would have been appreciated. Second. The game doesn't have a lot of reactivity or opprotunity to be creative. The event with Cain, for example, doesn't even give you the chance to explain, which results in unnecessary deaths. I had already figured out what was going to happen, but could do nothing about it. There's also a MUCH bigger one with a certain fast-travel entity. I refused to make a deal with him for the entire game. I didn't trust how the deal was presented, and decided against it for the entire game- only for it to be presented at the end of the game as if I had to have that deal broken by divine intervention. Why even present the option of it being a deal if there is no reactivity to saying no? Just make it a consequence of picking up the Obal if it's a pointless choice. That all said, the game is a lot of fun, and really feels like an 80s action-horror film. Good stuff. I just really wish my refusal to take the deal, and thus refusal to use fast travel, was rewarded in some way. Even just a different scene, ya know? Edit: as of the most recent update, you can apparently switch between sorcerer and necromancer by respec'ing. This helps, but it doesn't fully address the issue in cases of wanting to swap to a martial class because the magic was too much, or to magic because martial was too simple.

Played a couple of hours last night and really enjoying it so far! Combat is engaging and fun, while somewhat simple. I like the approach to magic classes and from what I've seen of my co-op player the physical classes, though needing a bit of tweaking, are also a good time. The soundscape throughout the beginning is excellent, really honing in on 80s synth, with shifts at just the right moments to get you pumped for a battle. Story wise, I'm honestly weirdly engaged. It's no masterpiece or pinnacle of gripping storytelling, but it's fitting, well written, and fun to follow. Kingdom of Night has a few rough spots for sure. Some skills feel like they have no effect, and the descriptions of skills are a little too wordy to be entirely coherent. As someone who uses a PS5 controller, inputting the spells as a necromancer took a lot of getting used to with only an Xbox display - would love to see them add PS5 buttons into the game. I love the art style, it draws the eye to the environment and has me scanning for loot or secrets purely so i can soak in more of the sprite animations and background work. If you like this type of game, you likely won't regret giving Kingdom of Night a chance.
