Good simulation, flight is close to reality. The drone models fly very close to how they fly in real life. You can definitely practice and get real world skills here. You can test new rate settings before making changes to your own drone. It is the best simulation for tiny whoops currently. It suffers from what real world pilots also say about even the best flight simulators: It feels a bit like flying through oil. No big deal, as I said, this game is good enough to practice real world skills. Differences to reality: Real world drones 1) fall out of the air faster when loosing throttle 2) suffer more from turbulence (especially with brushed motors) 3) get out of control faster in angle mode 4) are not perfectly aligned and will thus drift (all drones in Liftoff hover politely on the y-axis) The real world has 1) wind outside 2) air movement such as drag I think the lack of turbulence and lack of drifting are the biggest differences to reality in regards to learning to fly drones. If you are already familiar with flying drones, compensating for turbulence and drifting is something you automatically do when flying, so it is not a big draw back for experienced drone pilots. As for beginners, well, this is still *the* drone simulator and it will get you from 0 to flying in a great, risk free environment. I think Liftoff is best used when you already have a drone. It will greatly improve your appreciation for and use for Liftoff. I wouldn't buy Liftoff to see if drone flying is interesting. Buy a drone for that. Liftoff is fun because you are practicing with your drone and have a real world point of reference. Without that point of reference, I think Liftoff could feel a bit empty or abstract. Liftoff has a good selection of popular drones. New products such as Lava II and Mobula6 2024 would be nice, as well as old favorites such as Tinyhawk II and Meteor65.
Great game to practice tiny whoops. Physics are good enough to allow for muscle memory development without risk of crashing your pricey propeller man. I would absolutely recommend a real drone controller instead of an xbox or ps5 controller. If you start off on a non-drone controller, you will have to spend some time unlearning all the poor habits a console controller causes. Plus, it is WAY better to fly with the real controllers. Radiomaster is selling a 35 dollar one soon, I recommend that one for starting out. Plus, you will be able to link it to your drone when you feel you're ready.
This game got a lot better for me once I got an actual drone controller (Radiomaster Pocket), because unlike the standard Liftoff game where the middle point on the throttle axis is a reasonable place to leave the throttle most of the time, all these micro drones seem to hover at about 25% throttle. This means using an XBox controller is frustrating in this game where it wasn't as frustrating in the standard Liftoff. With a drone controller where the throttle axis doesn't snap to the middle, this problem no longer exists and made flying much more enjoyable.
