No, I don't like this game. Yes, I recommend it. Am I making any sense? It's a well-made game. I highly appreciate the huge amount of branching in the story and the very specific skillsets needed for each route. One of my complains with modern visual novels is the illusion of choice, and this game certainly does not lack it. Just a little tweak in stats can change our gameplay entirely, making every choice matter. The story and characters, although nothing too special or interesting, are good enough to make me intrigued in exploring it. I do recommend people to try it at least once. However... - Don't get mistaken, I understand that we are expected to "try and fail" playing this, and it's not like it gets boring replaying the game. It just gets tedious. We are given ZERO hints at what to do, what stats to raise, what things to look out for. So certainly that means there's no wrong answer, and we can specialize in one thing to make the Princess a specific character that we chose? Wrong, there are definitely stats you need to raise in order to move on with a story/avoid death. What stats are they? Figure it out by yourself, and you better write it down because you WILL forget what stat you needed to raise 15 weeks in-game. - Some stat requirements are very difficult to pass, you will need to either look up the guide or write down 10 pages of notes and make a good strategy to pass certain events. The most infurating part is how they're not consistent. In my first playthrough I passed an event with 50 Decoration, 35 Elegance and 40 public speaking. In the second, somehow I only partially pass the Decoration skill check with 50 points and failed with 56 Intelligence and 44 Public Speaking. Is there something I'm missing??? Is this the consequence of my other action or something?? I wouldn't know since the game doesn't tell me anything! And this is not just one instance too. - Not to mention the difficulty level. Failing feels fun when you're just trying to play the game to see where the story goes, but if you're trying to bring the story somewhere, the difficulty gets grating than enjoyable. However, I recognize that this is purely subjective. I don't particularly dislike challenging game, and objectively speaking, this game is good, great even. The experience is definitely not for me.

I've only had Elodie for 5 hours now... But if anything (else) happens to her, I will use my (Elodie's) royal authority to banish, imprison, or execute everyone and give her the crown by default. I desperately want to turn the princess into a dictator, but they force me to actually pay attention to politics, poisoning, peasants, and pets. 10/10 would struggle to decide what class to send the princess to to avoid certain death again. This game definitely shows its age, but for me, the gameplay is fun enough to justify grabbing it on sale. It has provided me with several hours of princess drama, problem solving, and unexpected assassination attempts. I gravitate toward playing it between more stressful games as a way to chill for a bit before getting back into action. TLDR: If you're a fan of strategy, visual novels, and some choices so hard you'll need to search up a guide on how to save the princess (or destroy her enemies most effectively)... This game is for you.
