Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a vibrant and endlessly energetic cooperative action game that distills the idea of teamwork into every second of play. Developed and published by Asteroid Base, the game presents a deceptively cheerful premise: players pilot a glowing, spherical spaceship through a colorful galaxy to rescue adorable space creatures and combat the forces of Anti-Love. Beneath its playful visuals and upbeat tone, however, lies a tightly designed experience that thrives on chaos, communication, and shared responsibility, making it one of the most memorable local co-op games of its generation. At the heart of the experience is the ship itself, which functions less like a traditional vehicle and more like a small, frantic workplace. Instead of each player controlling their own ship or character independently, everyone shares a single vessel and must physically run between stations to operate it. These stations control movement, shields, and a variety of weapons mounted around the ship’s circumference, meaning threats can come from any direction at any time. This design choice transforms moment-to-moment gameplay into a constant juggling act, where players are always deciding what needs attention most urgently and who should handle it. The result is a game that feels alive with motion and urgency, even during quieter moments of exploration. What truly elevates Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is how naturally it fosters cooperation. Success is never about individual skill alone; it’s about how well players communicate and adapt to rapidly changing situations. Roles are fluid rather than fixed, and players often find themselves sprinting from the helm to a turret, then to the shields, reacting instinctively to enemy fire or environmental hazards. This creates a rhythm that feels almost musical when a team clicks, as everyone begins to anticipate each other’s movements and needs without explicit instructions. Conversely, miscommunication or hesitation can quickly spiral into disaster, leading to frantic, often hilarious recoveries that define the game’s personality. Although the game is designed primarily around local multiplayer for up to four players, solo play is handled thoughtfully through the inclusion of an AI companion. This space pet can be directed to manage certain stations while the player handles others, making single-player viable and enjoyable. Even so, the experience feels fundamentally different when played alone. While solo sessions highlight the game’s mechanical elegance and level design, multiplayer brings out its emotional core, turning tense encounters into shared triumphs or chaotic failures filled with laughter and shouted instructions. The game’s strongest memories tend to come from couches, not keyboards. Visually, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime embraces a bold, neon-infused aesthetic that perfectly complements its fast-paced gameplay. Bright colors, clean shapes, and expressive animations make it easy to read what’s happening on screen, even when the action becomes overwhelming. This clarity is essential, as players must process threats, positions, and responsibilities in an instant. The soundtrack reinforces this atmosphere with energetic, uplifting music that keeps adrenaline high without becoming distracting, helping the game maintain a joyful tone even in its most intense moments. In terms of progression, the game strikes a satisfying balance between challenge and accessibility. New mechanics and ship upgrades are introduced gradually, allowing players to learn organically while still feeling a steady sense of growth. Difficulty can spike at times, especially for smaller groups or less experienced players, but these moments often serve as learning opportunities rather than unfair roadblocks. The game encourages experimentation with different ship layouts and weapon combinations, adding a light strategic layer that keeps repeated runs feeling fresh. Ultimately, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime stands as a shining example of how thoughtful design and a clear creative vision can turn a simple concept into something enduring. It’s a game that understands the joy of shared problem-solving and the thrill of barely surviving a crisis together. Whether played as a lighthearted party game or a focused cooperative challenge, it delivers an experience that is as charming as it is demanding. Long after the screen fades to black, what lingers most are the moments of teamwork, panic, and celebration that only a game built so completely around cooperation can provide. Rating: 9/10

Hard to believe it has been 10 years since this game came out and I still haven't found something that is as fun, friendly, fierce, and flexible to play. Flexible: You piolet a fully customizable giant ball... that us your spaceship, that has a shield, weapons, engine, and super weapon that you can customize and upgrade. Fierce: As you piolet your ship yo will encounter a gaggle of space fairing beings and monstrosities who have been twisted into heartless creatures trying to stop you from spreading love through the galaxy... and they don't give you room to breath. this may not be on the level of souls like games but you definitly will need to use your team work to carry you through tot he end. Friendly: This is a co-operative title that places you on your ship as a lover! Lovers are a community of positive thinking beings that have found loving each other not only benefits them emotionally but also generates a certain power which is used to run all thier tech and enrich the lives of everyone in the universe. Yeah sounds cheesey... but to be fair that about all I you get on that topic. It the story that drives the game play and the gameplay is all about crazy space battles! FUN: Lover ins a Dangerous Space Time pits you and your AI/player controlled companions on a galactic adventure to reclaim heart engines... I think... Its been a while soI could be wrong! During your adventure you will take cammand of a space ship and run one of its many stations Engines: You control where the shpi goes and are in charge of making evasive manuvers as you blast your way through levels The engines can also be customize to funtions as a weapon of sorts... but be careful. Bumping to things will damage you ship! and you don't want to run into enemy fire because you are too focused on fighting back. Don't forget... you are the feet that carry the entire team to missions objectives and dodge enemy attacks. Shields: As a Spherical ship... you can be beset on all sides by dangerous alien lifeforms, dedicated to stopping your mission! If they if the one controlling the engines can't avoid a problem... its your job to be the wall that protects every from that problem! Be it a close call on a crash or ballistics from bad guys... you can be the buffer the blocks thing from bursting your bubble of a spaceship. Custmization options can make your jobs easier as well... so make sure you choose the upgrade that best suits you! Weapons: You are the hand of justice. The sword of the cosmos! THE ARROW OF CUPID HIMSELF! And your job is to blast the baddies out of existance, shoot down missles, and destroy dangerous debrie that could damage your ship! But it can be a little complaicated with 4 turret stations to manage as you franticly run from one to the the other. But... whoever said you HAD TO control them all yourself? Since this game is a multiplayer game you and your crewmates can switch jobs at anytime. So if your ship falls into a trap, locked inside an enemy base and you can't get out... who needs the engine? Hop of and seat yourself at a turret as you prepare for waves of enemies! This game is 100% worth the price and has plenty of replay value as you unlock new ships to play on that all functions differently. And if you happen to play solo no problem. The AI companion is well done enough to make your journey difficult... but rather manamgeable. Good Luck! Go Spread the Love!!!

Played this game a couple of years after it came out, and then I wanted to finish it with my family. I am so glad I found the game, as it was incredibly fun and quite simple for my younger sibling to understand. The art style is so cute, and the levels are quite fun despite having to navigate in a ball. I recommend this game as it is peak couch co-op, and it shows.
