This game is a hidden gem. I spend a lot of time playing early access games and it's refreshing to come across one that's so polished and has such experienced developers behind it. The gameplay is a blast. It's easy to grasp but difficult to master, and it appeals to a variety of play styles (ramming, grappling and slaying crew, shooting cannons from range, etc.) which are all pretty well-balanced thanks to player feedback. The game is gorgeous. Just sailing around the map you can appreciate all the care and attention that went into building the Maelstrom world. The player base is extremely small at the moment which can make it difficult to fully experience the game, but the developers seem to have a plan that they are sticking to, and I'm absolutely confident a game like this will take off. Very strongly recommend.
I've been playing for about a week now, It's very fun. Pros. Ships are cheap to buy so you can play many different ships quickly Gameplay is fun, balanced NO PAY TO WIN Custimization is good, you can choose different crew mates / perks to fit your unique playstyles. Game loads fast and ques are short Player base is is very friendly and helpful to new players Discord is active Cons Player base is small, when the game gets bigger it will be amazing. Only 9 different total ships, but the game is in early access so thats expected. No Campaign yet, Its coming soon though. Single battle royale game mode, I would enjoy objective maps as well! Maps are pretty small, I would REALLY enjoy like a 40 player map. Conclusion For the price It's a good game. Doesnt take a lot of skill to get into, you can choose many different builds / playstyles so the game doesnt get boring soon. Fun simple pvp.

Summary: A battle royal on water with 13/14 players. There are three different races and 9 different ships to choose from. 100% fun. You have the choice between battling it out solo or with a friend. Thoughts: It doesn't matter what race you play or how you sail; it just matters how much fun you will have doing it. Buy one for your mother, sister, brother, father, friend, friends best friends ex room mate. This game will only get better as they release new features. Warning: Don't buy this game prior to anything important happening in your life. Satisfying your gaming addiction by playing Maelstrom is not a valid excuse for missing your wedding, your child's birthday, or any school or work projects.
A lot of fun if you like PVP period!! Pro: Combat rounds are fast. Lots of loot and perks for being the winner of each round The monster encounters are fun and the 3d models are well done! The wait time for a match is quick Upgrades and perks for various ships are pretty balanced between each faction The sound effects are fantastic. The water effects are the best ive seen in a ship game even though this is pure PVP fun Getting in and killing other players is easy.. Winning a match takes skill and a well decked out ship. CON: The bot matches and AI are a little um how do i say nicely DUMB. But who needs bots when you have players! Trash talk in the lobby is a bit annoying but you can just ignore it :P
