Get the patch from the publisher's website. This game is pretty good, the combat isn't boring, even if there isn't really that much unique stuff about the combat. The rest of the gameplay is you walking around town and trying to do quests and unlock scenes. And there are a lot of scenes, though many of them are reused assets and repetitive, but they look good. There is a lot to do, a lot of differnet costumes with different stats, but not a lot of different weapons. Those, at least in my experience, are mostly unlocked when you are more corrupted and then you kind of have to grind to craft them. Yes, there is a crafting system, and that crafting system isn't bad. Obviously it could be btter, though that is mostly linked to the gatherinmg of materials and map designs, which are a bit, idk, annoying to explore at times. The game is good and I recommend it, even at full price. 8/10. I normally trust anything that the develepor of this makes.

IMPORTANT - The game is awful without the R18 patch. Notably, some of the word-replacement censorship runs into the Scunthorpe problem, and there's an optional section pretty early on (the bath house mission) which locks you out of the main menu & saving the game. Outside of that, the game is probably a 4/10 without the patch as a lot of the infrastructure simply does nothing. That said, once you do install the patch, the prologue and first chapter become... very heavy, content-wise. I can understand wanting to wait to download the patch until after the Chapter 2 splash screen. I played the game mostly on Normal, but from what I can tell, the difficulty settings range from "mash one button" on Easy to "slightly harder than your average Persona game" on Crisis. In terms of the sound quality, I liked most of the jazz tracks. There's a large variety of H-scenarios, so there should be at least something for everyone even if it may take a while to get there. Other than that, pretty much everything felt stylistically standard and created a good gameplay loop. Speaking of Persona, you could probably run this as a fairly in-depth life sim for anyone who cares about roleplaying. This is my first RPGMaker game, and I had a lot of trouble working with the UI when I started. I don't know if those two things are related. I did really like the text-based battle log, and there's a mod I want to try which expands on it. The game flirts with the idea of yuri scenes, but it's all bait. I also didn't really find any of the characters or enemies attractive, but that's just personal preference and the scenarios make up for it. Last, don't bother grinding all the sexual stats / CGs early; the longer you wait, the less time it will take. There's even a sandbox area in the post-game where you can really speed through it. The only things I would recommend rushing are 75 Corruption for cursed items, and 100% shame resistance for your viewing pleasure.

Protect your city as a magical girl with "everything" you got. Magical Girl Celesphonia is a fine RPG Maker game with "extra" content & great CGs.

Pretty good game overall, can't really complain. The RPG part is not too complicated but still requires a bit of thinking, the "scenes" are well done overall...I did enjoy it. The story is good enough to entertain too, what more can you ask for? To be fair, I did put the game down for over a year after the intro because it all seemed a little "too much" at first, but it's really not that bad. You'll get the hang of it quite quickly. All in all, one of the better "one-of-those" games.

Shimobashira Workshop is probably my favorite dev in the entire Kagura Games catalog. Of their games Magical Girl Celesphonia is probably my favorite, and all of their games are good so it makes it hard to pick out a favorite. The game is 100% worth the asking price.
