Decent game, I can say I had a good time with this. Magical Girl Celesphonia is a typical RPG maker game with a slow burn corruption system. I have finished one "pure" run on very hard difficulty. I believe I have seen everything that this game has to offer. Pros: - Nice RPG maker game. It is quite standard for a RPG maker but there are added sexual elements such as enemy grabs, erotic level, statuses or erotic traps. I must say that I had fun because I had to actually think a bit and prepare myself before going to dungeons etc. On very hard difficulty it is quite hard to brute force fights. - Nice art. Well, most of the non-h look very good and are pleasant to the eyes. - Gallery unlock. After beating the game you can unlock all events in the gallery. It is very useful to check those events when doing pure runs. - Quite a lot of h events. Apart from what you can see in the gallery there are a lot of smaller events that can occur in the dungeons, fights or on the maps. Losing battles also result in h events and even some bad ends. - Meaningful h-stats. It seems that there are 3 levers of "lewdness". Each of those lewd levels affect how some previous h encounters are going and it also unlocks more events. - Nice story with additional endgame content. The main character is a good girl and it was a nice experience to see her story. End game content is also nice and quite rewarding story-wise. - Pure run available. Apart from some not so invasive scenes you can complete this game without any dirty stuff. Maybe it is not as rewarding as a non-pure run but still I had my fun. Cons: - Grinding materials. Grinding for levels is not really that needed but grinding for crafting material is quite required, especially on higher levels of difficulty. I can easily say that 1/4 of the game I have spent on grinding for those materials. It would be nice to have the possibility to buy those minerals instead of going to a dungeon and getting them. - Some h art are quite bad. Where some are really well made, some of them are quite bad. One was quite funny actually, the guy on the art had a missing left ass cheek in one of the pictures :P. There are also some h "animations" that also are quite bad, not having them at all would be better. - Generic enemy art. Well, all enemies are taken from some kind of free asset pack. I even recognize some from other games :P. It would be nice to have at least main bosses with some custom arts. - External patch required for h-stuff. Usually I am not writing this but I guess I will start now. You are basically buying half product without that patch. If you have a thing for pure Magical girls that can fall to corruption then this game is for you. I personally can easily recommend it especially now since it is now quite often on quite a big discount.
Its just a magical girl game. I'm not sure if I missed something or I forgot to do something prior to playing but, I haven't seen any 18+ content. Even though I'm pretty sure I'm already half way though the game with an almost complete build. Nevertheless, I don't think its a bad game so I guess a thumbs up?
General Experience I was initially mixed on Celesphonia, but I ultimately found it to be an enjoyable experience once I got a better grasp of the game's mechanics. The heroine is quite likeable with great and realistic dialog. However, the story is pretty minor with very few characters that any actual development. The RPG elements in the game are very well-done and give you actual gameplay that is lacking in a lot of these titles. You have complete flexibility with your ability kits and can change them whenever you feel like, especially for harder encounters. The artwork is very, very well-made and does not disappoint in the eroge department. If you are looking for a "female protagonist with corruption" style game and a well thought-out gameplay system, you will likely find a lot of value out of Celesphonia. Sequel Improvements While not a direct sequel to Ambrosia, it is the next game the Devs have made and feels like a spiritual successor. The artwork is improved greatly in this title while maintaining the same charm you expect from Ambrosia. The RPG system is much more fleshed out, although, a little more grindy. Celesphonia is far more involved in the dungeon exploring than Ambrosia, but Ambrosia had more stuff to do in the towns. This is reflected in the adult content, as Celesphonia has more defeated scenes awhile Ambrosia has scenes just out and about. I definitely recommend plaything both, though Celesphonia definitely feels like a proper successor. Adult Content You need a patch in order to access the content. The artwork is top-notch and there are dozens of scenes, each one having 3 variations depending on your lust rank, as well as side profile that can have some interactions in then overworld or getting restrained. The variations aren't just text changes, it's pretty common to see some changes in the actual artwork. Probably half of the scenes are losing to enemies in specific zones or losing to the bosses in the same zones (each of these also has the 3 variants). Fortunately, you can unlock everything post game and not need to grind defeats. Your scenes are all stored in a gallery that you can access in game very early on. The content is arguably tame and light on kinks, with the exception of tentacles being the only non-human interaction. Complaints The game can feel a little grindy as the souls you need to unlock the many ability pages and craft gear aren't plentiful enough. I'm also not the biggest fan of content being locked behind losing. This is a nonissue if you don't mind beating the game and using the memory unlocker. Replayability You can generally do everything, even in the post-game, meaning you can fully experience the whole game in one playthrough. There is a new game plus (I think?) where you can play on harder difficulties or even go for a pure run. Unless you're grinding to craft everything, a playthrough is probably around 12-15 hours. Achievements No achievements at the time of this review. Technical Issues The shop UI would freak out and end up showing nothing available. It's common, but backing out and trying again would generally fix it. I blame the RPG Maker jank. I got an incorrect ending (100 corruption) upon beating the final boss; I resolved this by unlocking all of the story Memorias (which unlocks the top right door and the light spells). I didn't have any major issues that hindered gameplay. Value The default price is at $20 and runs on sale for about $13. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with either price and you are likely going to enjoy this game a lot of if you like the corruption genre. Tons of content and an actual engaging RPG system make for a decent time. I will say, if you like this genre I recommend the bundle that also includes Ambrosia, as it is quite comparable and holds up very well.
