This game is the passion project of a tiny developer, which is the main reason I bought it. Secondly, It's basically Monster Rancher, which I love. Absolutely recommended

I played through, slugged it out, got to Mamon King with my Ancient Mamon whose name I forgot about. The spiky gray lizard dude. I heard about this game by browsing online and hearing that some Japanese streamer spent 160k on this game, to realize a childhood dream or something. Unfortunately the game is quite overhyped. It's not a bad game, and it isn't soulless slop, that is for certain. I'd give it 6/10. If you want something to kill a lazy weekend with, this is good. However, I do have a torrent of criticism for this game. The battles are pretty simple, it's just a numbers game in the end. There's not really any cool tech or emergent gameplay mechanics, although I am spoiled by games like Siralim Ultimate and Path of Achra and Rift Wizard and such. I'd recommend Aethermancer or Monster Sanctuary to play instead, if you want something similar to what this game is. Still, 1v1 battles with the same guy but grinding it out over and over gets stale after a while, especially because the animations don't automatically skip after each time. It'd be cool if there could be an auto-skip or a macro planning option where you can set up automatic handlers for certain events and stuff. That's just the general gameplay + QoL complaints. The Voyage system is cool, but other than that, battles, and items, the core gameplay loop gets old fast. Some Duck Life-esque minigames for training would be cool instead of just boring animations. The amount of skills and Mamons aren't really that much, and each Mamon is pretty much just a reskin but with different stats of another. There's not enough separating each Mamon from each other, besides skills and stats. Also, the personality of your guide gets stale after a while, repeating the exact same lines over and over. Not sure how it is in the JP version, I'm in the EN version, so it might be different. Anyways: TL;DR Ratings: Fun: 6/10 Art: 5/10 (the Ancient Mamons look so different from the regular Mamons, they have meshes and stuff with actual details, reminiscent of 3d mobile game models, versus regular Mamons' PS1-ish style. Also, none of the Mamons are visually appealing) Mechanical Depth: 2/10 (plays like Pokemon, which is better than nothing, but the small pool size and lack of more complex skills and passives and systems is something I'm not a fan of) Metaprogression: 7/10 (I quite liked the metaprogression with the calendar and stuff, but it got boring after a while, with only Voyages and fights being the way it is. Seasonal events might be something worth looking into like a Halloween themed event or something) Sound: 7/10 (the sounds are pleasant to listen to, and not grating, even if repeated for 3 hours straight, but none of the OST sticks with me, I cannot remember a single motif)

If you like Monster Rancher 2 or similar titles, this game takes it and has a couple unique twists on it. Not to deep into the game yet, but the music is good, the UI is smooth, and its easy to learn. There are a couple stats that are visible in Mamon King that are invisible in Monster rancher 2, like an actual tiredness meter and a condition meter. Basically, it feels like a modern twist and a bit of a love letter to Monster Rancher. W

IM GOING TO BECOME THE MAMON KING! But in all honesty, the game has its flaws. It's a charming Monster Training game much like Monster Rancher, but with cards. Your Mamon is the deck and the power of the deck, train them well. I've spent about 3 hours playing and its been the same thing the entire time it feels like. Now, what im getting at is that my Mamon feels the same as he was when I first summoned him. I chose the Redmander (a sorta Dragon Salamander) He gets some Fireball spells that scale with INT and some melee attacks that scale with STR. I opted for INT growth and using the Fireball spell evolved into a Twin Fireball. Im pretty certain he's supposed to be a STR mainstat Mamon based on his Stat Spread. I've been basically using these same Fireball spells the entire time aside from this other ability i managed to find that was INT scaling. It was also able to evolve after some use and its kinda handy, it removes 15% max SP from the target and deals small damage. Anyways, I feel like the game isn't giving me enough opportunities to change anything about my Mamon. Im basically training and doing tournaments until i outscale them too much and move to the next tournament that progresses the game. It almost feels like its just Number Go Up. I've unlocked all 3 Summon Portals but I don't really feel like they have a use until I do "Summon Inheritance" but I want a stronger Mamon so I gotta train this Redmander until he's close to old age death and then doing the Summon Inheritance. The issue here is with this 3 hours of time, i still got about half of his lifespan to go. So im just playing this same Mamon over and over and while it's cool to see him get stronger, I haven't really seen him get anything significant. I got some consumables but its unclear whether they pass on to the Inheritor or are just for this Mamon, which would feel wasteful to use at this Mamons current lifespan. Aside from that, its kinda charming. I think the devs should add more Mamons and more events on the calendar that can happen while the default events occur. Like for example: Item Bout Tournament is active this day and you also encounter a passersby who asks you if he could feed your pet a treat and you can select YES or NO. Maybe he gives the Mamon that food that gives them some CON or STA, or maybe he gives your Mamon something bad and they lose some CON/STA/Loyalty. Just some more stuff to spice the game up because right now I feel like its too focused on Training and nothing happening often enough inbetween. The only thing keeping me going right now is Summon Inheritance. I gotta see how it works and how different the next Mamon i'll have is going to be because right now, im kinda blasting through with my mind shut off. I want to move on to a new Mamon, but I also want to be optimal.
