Hello Friends, Today i will review the game METAL MAX XENO REBORN. This is a remake of a game that was released on the PlayStation 4. It also is the only Metal Max game on steam from the series. There are many games in this series. Unfortunately, they are not on steam. This game features a hero with a metal arm that goes around in tanks to defeat giant biological weapons. After finding a base of operation, characters will join the main hero to fight giant robotic biological creatures. The settings is in a post apocalyptic world taken over by machines. There are findable weapons and tanks around the world the hero can find, including other characters that can join the fight against the machines. One of the few jrpg's that feature modern guns and tanks. Some of the weapons and guns are sci fi though, so all of them are not realistic. Alot of people do not like this version because the original version had more storyline and interaction between the characters and the main hero. Because of this, many other steam users have given this a negative review due to the differences in versions. I personally treated this as a different game than the original one i played on ps4. Everything in this game is moddable except the weapons characters equip while walking around. Any part on the tanks are moddable, if you have the correct parts to mod it. This includes any cannon's, engines, machine guns, and Special Cannon's. This can help make the tanks much more powerful, but the player must keep on eye on the weight and not go over the limit of weight for the tank. There are also dungeons where you have your characters walk around and hunt monsters and items. These can be super long or super short. There are also debris blocking parts of the dungeon where the characters need a certain level of strength to destroy them. This makes multiple playthrough of the games if a person wants to fully explore a dungeon. Anyways, here is my PROS and CONS list: PROS: - One of the METAL MAX series games. - A post apocalyptic JRPG that features tanks and modern day weapons. - The ability to mod the tanks, from paint jobs to equipment strength. - Different characters to find and rescue around the destroyed ruins of Dystokio. - Dungeons to explore on foot can be found through the game. - Giant enemy robots and WANTED enemies that are quite hard. - A controller is required. This game does not allow you to play with keyboard and mouse. I used a Zen Pro Switch controller. - Works on windows 11 operating system. CONS: - Some of the changes from the ps4 version made some fans of the original game very mad about the changes. I personally treated this is a new game, instead of a remake. - There are translation errors on certain enemies that are still in Chinese, even if you have language set to English. - The storyline in the original version of the game is more flushed out, while this one cut parts of it. They traded it off by adding a new character. Do I recommend this game? Considering this is the only current METAL MAX game on steam, i do recommend it, at least to try it. It is unlike other jrpgs as it features alot of modern weaponry and has tanks in it that are customizable and moddable. These facts make it a unusual rpg compared to other jrpgs found on steam. Many players who played the original version should not play this remake version as it will feel like they cut alot of the original game out. I personally hope in the future more metal max games appear on steam. If your on the fence about this game, buy it when it is on sale.

I love this game but I am biased as a Metal Max fan as well as someone who has already completed it before on another console, this version being my 2nd playthrough of the title. Basically, this is a post-apocalyptic JRPG where you explore a relatively linear world collecting military vehicles and customizing them with various weaponry. The vehicles themselves do most of the combat outside of on-foot dungeons, in which you'll control your human party to complete. You have a wide assortment of crazy weapons to choose from (katanas, assault and sniper rifles, RPGs, hand grenades and even beam sabers) to fight off the wildest bosses (called SoNs, or Sons of NOA, the military AI that caused the nuclear apocalypse) and monsters you'll meet outside of an Atlus or Final Fantasy game. The main criticism with this game is that it is actually a remake of another game that released on PS4, with an entirely new combat system akin to Xenoblade and almost entirely removed storyline. This leaves the game itself to be this kind of sandbox thing where the main goal just becomes getting better vehicles and tanks and farming bosses for stronger tank and human weapons. The first issue people will have with the game is the almost nonexistent storyline. The main characters are still here and their interactions exist somewhat, but their lines are very brief and devoid of any real character development. In short, forget about the story of the game for the most part. The focus is on the gameplay. The great thing about this game is that the combat is very exciting once you understand the basics, as well as the process of getting and customizing your tanks into boss-nukers. There are around 5 difficulty levels in total which each feature their own set of weapons to discover as well as super bosses that are unique to certain difficulties. Graphics are kinda bland and to be honest a bit ugly. The vehicles themselves are extremely well designed and representative of real world weaponry (you start out with a tank that is basically an M1A1 Abrams) and later unearth more powerful vehicles as you explore. The OST is absolutely fantastic and I listen to it in my free time sometimes. It's another highlight of this game. I would mostly recommend this game to people who enjoy more grindy JRPGs without wanting to worry much about story. There is also a cute shiba that acts as a 5th party member who carries it's own set of weapons and armor.

I bought Metal Max Xeno Reborn with some hesitation, given the low Metascore and the negative reviews... But I'm actually really happy I've played it! And that's because this game is really unique, and it feels like a lot of passion was put into its creation. Two of the highlights of the game are the cool post-apocalyptic atmosphere (depressing but with a touch of hope) and the beautiful soundtrack by Satoshi Kadokura (with some really fascinating electronic pieces). Another really exciting aspect of the game are the tanks: finding tanks, collecting/building/fitting tank parts, driving the tanks around and fighting the enemies with them is really galvanising! Unfortunately, the game doesn't have a strong plot, and the dialogues are really brief and few. Because of this, I felt quite indifferent to the various objectives, and found the characters rather shallow. These limitations are also due to a lot of stuff being removed from the original version of this game (called Metal Max Xeno) - which I recommend giving a look at, on some YouTube videos (e.g. compare the Reborn intro with the original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ-lU7F9i0A Another issue is the uneven difficulty of the game: sometimes you destroy some enemies with one shot, and other times you get destroyed with one hit - this makes some parts very trial-and-error. Also, during the first playthrough, you have to avoid the very powerful Wanted Enemies, making a big part of the exploration just an escape. The game also doesn't make clear what you can do to become stronger, e.g. how to best customise your tanks or how to spend the characters' ability points. For this reason, I recommend reading this general guide before playing the game, as I found it suuuper useful: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/321436-metal-max-xeno-reborn/faqs/79992/introduction If you're a fan of JRPGs like me, and you care about a game atmosphere, originality and 'heart' more than graphics and level of polish, I really recommend this game, especially on discount!

Don't dive into it expecting an easy game, the grind is real (although there's a nice money exploit where you buy an engine, upgrade it to its final model, and sell it back for more than you spent), and the game reminds you of that early on by having a Sand Shark (formerly a WANTED enemy in games like Metal Max 2) right outside the base of operations. If I have some things to complain is the lack of a semi-auto battle system (as in: having the characters I'm not controlling acting automatically while the one I'm controlling would be on manual), and the fact the camera is 100% manual (which means that navigating outside the battle involves using both sticks at once). Thankfully the battles are still turn based. Worth mentioning that, despite the "Controller Required" tag, it DOES have a (fixed) keyboard control... And oddly no mouse control in this, not even for camera, and the camera is handled by holding Shift+Arrow Keys. So, yes, prefer controller.

+ Pleasant music An unusual world It is interesting to explore, as it is well rewarded for curiosity - There is practically no plot There are glitches, but not fatal 7/10 For connoisseurs of unusual JRPGs By and large, this is a regular JRPG in a post-apocalypse where you have to hunt monsters and robots with tanks and other equipment. It's hard to recommend it because it has enough disadvantages that you can easily find fault with, I generally liked the game, although I don't see any point in replaying it. But after passing, new game modes open up. P.S.: If you do not pick up trash and enemies do not disappear after death, then change the region in Windows to the American one, if after that the black screen, then change to England. After I changed to England, I went through the whole game and no more glitches were noticed.
