The good old Source engine – who would have thought that it would experience a venerable revival with a Vietnam shooter? When I bought this game, I had a quiet hope: that a new game could revive the spirit of times long past, times when some of the best multiplayer shooters ever, based on Source, were at their peak. Day of Defeat: Source; Counter-Strike: Source; And now, 20 years later, a new offspring. Set in Vietnam. Could it get any better? Hardly. My enthusiasm as a long-serving Day of Defeat veteran aside, there are still no negative points to criticize for this game. The principle: Two teams compete against each other in various modes. The classics like Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Deathmatch need no further explanation. Each side, either the Vietcong or the Americans, has an absurdly high number of realistically implemented handguns at their disposal. From well-known classics like the M16 and the AK47 to lesser-known models like the Stoner 63A or the TUL-1 to exotic models like the Reising Model 55 or the Zastava M56 - over 200 realistically reproduced handguns are waiting to be used. Additionally, each side offers a choice of different classes, each with its own advantages and disadvantages: Assault, Medic, Gunner, Engineer, Radioman, and Sniper. Furthermore, each soldier can have a unique appearance. The uniform can be customized from head to toe. You unlock the clothing items by reaching new ranks. So, in full-scale battles, no two soldiers look the same. The damage models and sound effects are also realistic, immersing the player deeply in the action. The map design is great. Community maps can also be downloaded via the workshop, including classic Counter-Strike maps like Dust 2. Unfortunately, the game currently lacks a player base, but you can add bots as you wish. The bots are good at hitting targets and can be divided into different difficulty levels. They even behave quite intelligently. The developers release new updates every week and take excellent care of the game. That's something you'd really like to see in many other games. So, what can I say in conclusion about this great game? It has everything. It shows that the Source engine is far from finished. A multiplayer shooter like you've longed for. You're immediately transported back to the good old days, if only there were more players! Even solo with bots, it offers many hours of fun. Recommended!

Do you want an ugly truth? All of the things you hate in modern FPS gaming, the battle passes, the micro-transactions, the Pay to win mechanics, it's all your fault. Because you play them. You do. You need that progression system, you need the tiny dopamine release of unlocking a new item you'll never use. You need to spray paint your gun with anime designs to irk other people, you need a post-malone skin in your cowboy game, you need Nicki Minaj with an RPG. All of those things are your fault. Where is my proof? Well, obviously it's in this game right here. This absolute Gem of a passion project. A slightly buggy, awesome little game packed with nuance and content, that no one plays. We complain about all of the irksome elements of modern AAA games, but then we Eat. Them. Up. We dream of games with no bull, no silly progression systems, no battle passes, but then when they exist, such as they do here, we ignore them. We don't pay them a second of thought. Military Conflict: Vietnam is an absolutely beautiful arcade FPS. The devs dump loads of toys into the game regularly and behave like a group of people who just adore playing their own game and want to add more stuff to it just so they can play with it. Dozens of firearms and gear items that no other game has every put in a game are here, faithfully recreated. The maps are fantastic, the asymmetrical teams are cool but not unbalanced, the gunplay is fast and vicious. It's a splendid game, and if you want to put your money where your mouth is on all the complaining about modern gaming, you should be on here too. The bots are fantastic, just playing this game in a bot server with a group of 2-4 friends is a blast. People complain about dead games a sentence after they complain about AAA titles, and they will do this complaining while on a 150$ AAA game while they leave this 15 dollar game behind. Don't just look at this game as a badass little vietnam game, don't just look at it as a chance to play with all kinds of cool toys no other game gives you. Look at this game as a big middle finger to the battlefields, the call of duty's, the delta forces, the Fortnites, the corporate monsters that are as much a Casino as a Video game. Don't spend 150 dollars on a half-ass game with 20 Dollar skins, spend 15 here and maybe you'll remember what fun felt like when you were a kid and not everything had to constantly be rewarding you or tricke-feeding you garbage for you to feel like it was worth your attention. Let's stop rewarding evil, and start rewarding awesome, here and now, shall we?

Basically this game is 3 main things: 1. It's CoD if CoD never lost it's identity and turned to s... 2. It's Black Ops 1 if they actually had more than 2 missions in Vietnam 3. It's on the source engine At time of review: iirc the dev has said it's not even an alpha build yet. That being said- it's super impressive for how well made it is. This is literally better than anything the "Triple-A" studios have put out in a decade. The only downside is that there are low player counts (plenty enough to play with but not vast). I wouldn't hold on to that though as they've mentioned that they don't plan to advertise the game until it's at ~1.0. If you think you'd like the game it's definitely worth getting before it's full price. This game is a really good blend of Counter Strike 'feel' with CoD/Battlefield gameplay. There are minor bugs such as clipping near doorways/loose objects but it seems easily fixable. Per the roadmap; there should be a ton of cool new features coming soon. Weapons: fun, effective, sound good Sound Track: The sound track is great. It's really cool that they laced real Vietnam news briefings and Hanoi Hannah into some of the tracks. Environment: Feels like 'Nam, might need some dense jungle maps though Gameplay: Rewarding. Standard deathmatch, CTF, gungame, etc. Single player is on its way. Linux People: Some of the older reviews on ProtonDB make the game sound 'iffy'... it's been working perfectly fine on my Solus OS via Proton Experimental (as of 6/2024). Don't let compatibility concerns hold you back. Given that it runs on the Source engine, which generally runs perfectly on Linux, I can only guess that those reviews were ~day 1 issues. Fun game, would buy again.
