I discovered this game thanks to Youtuber Joeseppi on "Steam Games That Nobody Plays". I saw the art style of this game and was hooked and purchased it. Very cute, wholesome game that definitely had a lot of work put into it with the art that was painted first before put into the game. The later puzzles can be tricky, but with a bit of thinking, you'll eventually figure it out. Highly recommend!

the whole time i played this game i kept thinking the very specific thought that milo and the magpies feels like something made by a birdwatcher in their fifties. it turns out that's because it pretty much was! it's partly the aesthetics and partly its subdued sense of humor - however, while i may not be the intended audience and not everything was my vibe, i'm not sure if i've ever felt as calm and embodied after playing a game as i did when this one ended. the piano music, the handpainted art, and all the pretty imagery of trees and birds just put me right at ease. this game is a simple point-and-click adventure that tasks you with helping a lost kitty find his way back home after being scared off by magpies. there isn't much more of a narrative, though! it's cozy and only took about ninety minutes to complete. unfortunately, i got stuck on a level with a very annoying barking dog. i probably should have looked at a guide sooner as the repetitive sound broke both the flow of my experience and my concentration a fair bit. checking a guide was worth it, and i otherwise didn't find anything frustrating. a heads up that for some lightning flashing at the end, but (for me) it was infrequent enough not to set off a migraine attack. i definitely recommend saving this one for a cozy evening or a rainy day, or perhaps even an early morning spent on the porch! at heart, milo and the magpies simply calls for hot chocolate, a fluffy blanket, and a kitty asleep in your lap.

Milo and the Magpies is a charming play-through of vivid scenery, personable characters and playful imagination. While exploration is a must in order to solve each puzzle, it's also rewarding as each level unlocks a secret. The music pairs wonderfully with the game and in some levels I've found myself closing my eyes for a minute so I could enjoy the tune. Getting to know each character through glimpses of their lives further brought to life the overall adventure. It's hard to explain but even if I couldn't relate to their individual interests or woes, I still found them likable and easy to empathize with. The developer's humor sprinkled throughout the game added another layer of fun. I enjoyed Milo's boogie dance and the upstairs neighbor's "shutup!" to the pianist made me laugh. Overall, Milo and the Magpies is worth the price and worth a play. I hope the developer continues to make more games like this one! (Note: This game plays well on the Steamdeck!)
