As a person who enjoyed Papers Please story but not so much the gameplay, I did enjoy Mind Scanners gameplay & story. I'm probably an outlier in saying this but I did like the simple puzzle gameplay. Some of the machines/puzzles seemed inspired by actual therapy. Like the light machine definitely drew inspiration from EDMR & the mind scanning was just advanced Rorschach testing. I liked the cyborg/Akria-esqe dystopian art & setting too. I highly recommend at full price but 17 USD may be high for some folks for a relatively short game. It does go on deep discounts often though.

Mind Scanners - Retro-futurist psychiatry with moral teeth Mind Scanners hooked me with its premise and kept me with its loop. You diagnose oddball citizens using wonderfully weird devices, then “treat” them through fast, arcadey mini-games while juggling time, money, and your conscience. It’s part puzzle, part resource management, part interactive ethics test—and it all clicks. The VHS-dystopia vibe is spot on: chunky pixel UI, corporate slogans everywhere, and a synthy soundtrack that quietly turns the screws. What surprised me most was how my choices spiraled - who I helped, what I upgraded, which rules I bent - nudged me toward different story beats and endings without ever feeling didactic. A couple mini-games can get repetitive late game, and there’s pressure to grind credits, but the short day cycles and steady unlocks kept me in the “one more shift” trance. If “Papers, Please meets retro-clinic puzzler” sounds appealing, this is a smart, stylish, and tense little gem. Recommended.

The Papers, Please influence is clear, and honestly, it hurts more than it helps. Where Papers Please balanced story and mechanics perfectly, this piles on too many minigames that quickly shift from engaging to frustrating. The dystopian premise is strong (a government “cult” making you rewire minds), but the characters feel flat and the constant gameplay loops distract from the story instead of deepening it. I ended up skipping dialogue just to push through. Just note I dropped it close to the ending, it kind of burned me. The art style is the highlight—bold, unique, and instantly recognizable—but overall the game felt rushed. Worth a look on discount if you’re curious, but don’t expect a Papers, Please-level experience.

This feels like a variation of papers please. This starts out as your daughter is taken by "The Structure" and you need to work along side them to control the population and free them of their "Personalities" and make them like sheep Lmao. It is repetitive. However, if you are a fan of papers please, you will love this game. 6/10. Maybe would play again if im bored.
