This game is really fun. It's an arcade version of all the other 2ks and really well made, even if you don't play sports I'm sure that you would like this game.

Honestly, I have no idea why this game is in the state it is in. It is arguably the best NBA Jam-like game today. You can't break the backboard with a dunk, but you can throw an alley-oop to yourself off the backboard and yam that !tch. You can do a double alley-oop—You can do a double alley-oop and dish for an open shot. Playgrounds 2 also allows the player to do crossover moves. Some players have signature moves with crossovers that lead to some sick ankle breaking animations. Yes, Characters have dope signature moves—Tim Hardaway does his signature crossover as the basketball sparkles gold. You can play up to 4 people on the same screen or online—You can play with randoms online or you can play with your friends online. There is an exhibition mode where you can tailor matches to preferred settings or a Season mode where completing with a team unlocks a new player(for that specific team). Now lets get into the nitty-gritty, and talk about the Card Pack system. You unlock players by buying packs; you buy packs by earning currency; you earn currency by playing matches. No cap—the first pack I ever opened was a gold pack and it included the Legendary Mugsy Bogues(hahahaha).... No, it was in fact the Legendary Micheal Jordan. The only "issue" with the game and honestly the main reason I'm writing this review(in hopes of drawing in current players) is that there is a gold coin currency that you need to unlock other items. The main way to earn gold currency is by playing in online matches. Is that a deal breaker? Not for me; the game is still a great time. If you're a fan of NBA Jam this game is worth it's asking price in my opinion...but guess what. At the time of me writing this review the game is a whole $7.49. Can't lose with that.

I give this game a marginal thumbs up. Mechanics-wise it is a decent successor to NBA Jam and a fair amount of fun to play. It is eight years old, though, and it is dead online. There is no online multiplayer and no daily challenges available, so you can't upgrade your players fully. And yes, there is a loot system to gain decent players. That's not really that bad; four quick exhibition games generally gets enough credits to purchase a gold pack, which usually contains one legend-rank character. If you are playing for casual fun I recommend this game. If you want something competitive you should probably look elsewhere.
