This software is utterly perfect if you are a fledgling writer such as myself. It will reveal to you over time, whether or not you have not just the imagination, but also the discipline to be a writer; it is not that you need to sit down every day following a regiment, but that you have that priceless capacity, to never, ever quit. However, a writer who sits down every day with the work, is probably better off in the long run. Your mental forge will stay hot and ready to create each day. Very slowly, my own chaotic approach has diverged so that I may go that clock-in route, but in truth, it is difficult for me sometimes, to punch that card every day. After reaching 20,000 words and beyond for this, my first novel, it became too large to juggle around both in my mind and in Nimble Writer. No fault of the software, I just had too many satellites. The nexus that is Scrivener, overwhelmed me with relief after just three days of transferring and organizing. Perhaps one day, in the distant future, you will stumble upon the portal to my universe, where cosmic horror, vengeance, humor, love and loyalty, interweave to paint myth within your mind. I Highly recommend this software. Try to be patient with it, as it can be a little bit of a fiddle sometimes. It has a lot of functions for separating plot, sub plot, chapters, world lore, character traits, and a dozen other things. The workshop also, has some rather nice downloads you might want to take a look at, before you get comfortable with the default program. It acts also like a hub, for gathering together all your fragments, files and concept art. It became a comfort, as I sat with it, staring at green text against a black screen, waiting for her to arrive. And when I switched to Scrivener, I felt a pang of nostalgia for it. Could you write a full book with it? Of course! I left it only because the project needed a larger landscape to aid in world building, so that other possible books in the series, may draw from it, while staying in resonance with each other. If you are starting out, and those stories that have scratched from within you for years, are now demanding to be finally set free, Nimble Writer is a great foundational first step, upon a path that will only reveal itself to you, as you write it. I'd just like to say a few things about AI in the hope that it might help another emerging writer such as myself. This is my second less “caustic” attempt, and one that I feel is much more fair. AI is not all bad. I run AI locally. AI is a great tool. It will teach you about story beats, help you attain plot structure, aid you in research, make complex calculations for you and will be your brainstorming companion, from midnight till dawn. However, if leaned upon, AI will also blind you and strip your voice of it's individuality. It will negate your natural gift to perceive causality and bury you in a grave of mediocrity. Repel the cling of the hive and the gravitational pull of it’s pigeon holes. Avoid the laziness of conformity and if you do feel yourself beginning to become captured, do not embrace and harden those links; sever them. Be ruthless. Step forward into darkness with courage and write to the beat of your own pulse; for it, will be your guiding light. You are a child of the cosmos and are thus, immersed with divinity. AI is the writers false prophet. All the advise in the world, is as nothing, if you cannot walk this path alone. You are your own star, and derived from that, the bevel of your horizon and the call of direction. And yet, when we begin the journey, it is from within darkness always. Only when we are ready, only when we have slept, endured and awakened finally, do our petals expand upon the first rays of dawn, from the light we will bring into this world.

It does what it says on the tin and surprisingly well even compared to options like Scrivener and Reedsy which have their advantages for a lot more money. If you have a big enough display or even multiples you aren't losing much by going with Nimble Writer and so far I am quite happy with it. Some other reviews of mentioned a lack of fonts but I seem to find all standard fonts in the customization menu, so its there if you look.

Finally after a decade of having this, I figured out why it's incredible... it just works! You can write text into it, save it as different chapters (like tabs) and have a Steam Cloud powered saving text editor ready for whatever typing needs you have, and setting the background image to my window is also a great feature --- the editor's colours can also be customised quite a bit to make it just perfect. You can pin this to the Windows taskbar and open it instantly without any launcher or splash screen of any kind and it's resuming my last working document, and closing it is actually a pretty safe thing to do, it reduces the time fumbling around with file browsing dialogs to zero and has become a literal notepad for me, can open it and close it within seconds and save any text I need to, and organise it in tabs. It's pretty brilliant in it's current state. For example AI prompts, social media posts, URLs, it's a great clipboard of sorts, if I were ever to write some long-form document I would probably use Nimble Writer for it now. I can open the program, write text, save it, and close it within like 2 seconds flat. It is seriously so powerful when it's pinned to your taskbar --- I'll probably have this pinned down there forever now! 10/10
