A pretty decent game for the price but can be finished relatively quickly, probably in about 6-7 hours if you're not making too many mistake. A lot of my playtime comes from replaying missions with friends I wasn't playing with initially, and restarting missions because of their makes lol. Playing in single player is fine but the game is a lot better with friends. I only played by myself a few times to complete some of the challenges. Phantom Squad is essentially a top down version of SWAT with inspiration from Rainbow Six where you need to clear rooms and complete mission objectives with whatever weapons and gadgets you come into the mission with. You can crack doors open to peek into a room and use the planning map to draw lines for coordinating with friends before a breach. Solid features which added a lot to the experience. Completing a mission unlocks something new to equip which made progression feel meaningful. Every time I completed one I was excited to see what new items I could use. You can't view guns/gadgets you haven't unlocked yet so it was a nice surprise every time. During missions I kept saying gadget related comments like... [*]If I had a Grenade that would of made it easy to clear the next room. [*]If we had a Breaching Charge that stunned enemies that would of been fun. [*]If the game had a Door Wedge that would of prevented me from getting flanked. [*]If I could use these Claymores that would really prevent me from getting flanked. ...and all of those thoughts were granted since they're available in game. It was great to wish for an item and be surprised with it being an unlock a mission or two later. The only gadget I had major issues with was the Heartbeat Detector, a gadget that you unlock by default. It makes every other observation and intel gathering gadget irrelevant since you can passively see anyone around you forever. Something that strong felt like it should have a certain amount of charges, maybe three, that would reveal an enemy's location once per activation. It was such a strong and gross item to use that my group agreed not to use it since it straight up was not fun. Doing that make the gameplay experience a better, more interactive and less cheesy. The lockpick was only useful on a few missions since locked door are rare and not random. I never found a good use for the glass cutter so we stopped bringing that into missions. I was expecting those two gadgets to be more important than they turned out to be. Mission # 6: Chain Breaker wasn't a fan favorite in my group but has been reworked since the release which added checkpoints , the only mission to have that feature. Since you're forced to stay together due to the proximity electric vest that zaps you to death if you split up it was hard to complete in co-op so everyone in my group finished by themselves. Some of the optional challenges were a little rough, like keeping all of the hostages unscathed in Mission # 7: Party Hard due to the layout of the bottom right area of the basement , which was a tricky area to secure and got old fast due to constantly failing the challenge. The missions were fine and enjoyable. They had good variation in objectives and art/design. I had no complaints expect for what I listed above, but those comments aren't something that should steer you away from buying the game. Phantom Squad currently lacks replayability (outside of getting 3 stars on every mission) which is a pretty big issue. Wanting a game you purchased to be fresh and playable forever isn't an expectation you can have for every game, but is something that could of been worked on (and is being worked on for a future update) before the game was released. As of now a large majority of enemies spawn in the same place holding the same weapons which makes replaying a mission trivial due to having map knowledge. The first time you find out the room in front of you has two enemies and one hostage, you can expect that to be the same every time you play it again. If you play with a friend who doesn't know the mission it becomes very boring very fast since you know the layout and the enemy layout. The best thing to do in that situation is to hang back while your inexperienced friend explores the map for the first time. You need to play very passively so you don't ruin their initial experience and backseat with your knowledge of the mission. I wasn't the only one in my group that felt this way and it could of been avoided if the enemies were mixed up a bit. The T-Hunt gamemode on the roadmap will be great for replaying missions. Random spawnpoints for enemies will shake things up. Overall the game was fun and needs replayability, mainly because it seems easy to implement and an easy way to sink more hours into the game. Hopefully that comes through soon because there isn't a reason to play it again once you beat it.

Reminiscent of Doorkickers, but in real time, Phantom Squad doesn't hold your hand but doesn't throw you straight into the deep end either. The missions were designed with co-op in mind, but you can still beat the game solo if you're an unlikable person with no friends. No one you know plays this game? No problem! Hop on their Discord server and find others looking for a squad. With a wide range of gadgets, you can approach missions in many different ways, and different members of the squad can pick different roles (scout, breacher, tank) according to the mission and individual preference. The selection of weapons isn't that large, but it covers all of the categories we're used to from other games, including non-lethal options. I certainly don't feel hampered by it. Level design is good, and the environments are decently detailed without being unecessarily busy. The devs are active on Discord and welcome input and bug reports. Overall, a good value for its price.

very cool game. fun with friends if you have good sync, i had more fun playing solo, though there's some things to be desired in the options. if you ever played Of Guards And Thieves on gamejolt, it's pretty similar. the hotline miami comparisons aren't really valid imo, it's not as brutal or quick as that, but it's still very fun. the only truly bad part about this game was mission 06, very very very unfun in both singleplayer and multiplayer, where you're at a direct disadvantage if you're playing with friends *(CHECK EDIT). lack of accessibility options is a negative too, but i get it's not something on every dev's mind, especially if it doesn't affect them - hope it comes one day though. i don't see the game being super replayable after a playthrough, so i hope a mapmaker can become made one day. SUPER COOL GAME, HAD A LOT OF FUN WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF GAMES FAIL TO DO THESE DAYS B^ ) *edit: mission 6 got checkpoints, which doesn't entirely fix the issue but makes it less of a complete drag. either way, once you beat the pure stealth part of it then you won't have to worry too much. cool change

It literally just needs a level editor, and modding. Once it gets that I can see this being a peak ass game Otherwise, if ur fine with somewhat predictable levels (with light RNG) its overall a great grab.
