I've finally achieved 100% of this game, so here's my most honest review of this port (and how it fares compared to the original GOTY PvZ1) s a hardcore PvZ franchise fan. (DISCLAIMER: opinion formulated while playing newest update 1.5.0 on PC this last month after playing release buggy Replanted on Switch 2, so I've seen everything that's happened with this game.) PROS: *After all the patches the game got post-release, IMO it's as extremely enjoyable as PvZ1 GOTY Edition thanks to (mostly everything) working as in the original while also having QoL improvements like native widescreen & keyboard shortcuts & speed-up button. It's a shame the game came out like **hot buggy inexcusable trash**, but nowadays I respect the devs for sticking by to fix the mess (mostly), and I defend it's completely playable and enjoyable. *Also love that they added extra yet optional content for players who want to go the extra mile, either from other PvZ1 ports (iOS achievements, Xbox PvP & Co-Op), cut content from the original (Survival Endless for all levels & accessible Limbo Page) or all-new content (Cloudy Day, R.I.P. Mode, China level easter egg, a couple of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥). They all feel like they belong to the game, and it doesn't clash with the original content. CONS: -There's still a bunch of small yet noticeable bugs that I just wish would get fixed with one final patch because they are HARD to ignore. -RIP Mode levels have this ugly jarring filter on your screen that alters colors in a way that looks awful. Real shame because I actually really like the purple lawn and sky they drew just for this mode. -They ruined the iconic credits by making the There's a Zombie on Your Lawn video barely visible, for some reason they added a 3D background of a room with a TV but the TV is so far away you can't see the animation much. ''CONTROVERSIAL TOPICS'' (?): ~To clarify, there's heavy claims that the HD graphics were made with AI: 1) The AI used during development was upscaling AI, something that's always existed waaay before genAI and that doesn't have the moral implications and environmental impact of genAI. 2) Upscaling sprites were only used as placeholders, and later human artists redrew all the graphics we see today. 3) When the game got leaked without the Day 1 patch, there were still some traces of the upscaled AI sprites that weren't meant to see the light. Currently, there's 0% of these upscaled graphics in the game, it's all either from the version they built on top of to make Replanted or new assets redrawn by humans manually. ~The fake concept art page........ It doesn't affect anything with the gameplay, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth that they lied about this... Not contacting OG developers is one thing I can understand, but straight-up lying about their original work??? And with such lazy lies fans called them out for??? Really sucked seeing the OG devs debunking this ''never-seen-before concept art'' gallery, man. ~Many people believe that charging 20 bucks for this game when the PvZ1 GOTY Edition is only 5 bucks on Steam is a rip-off. TBH IMO, $20 feels like a good price considering the current state of the gaming industry, and when listing all the good changes Replanted makes with all the QoL improvements allowing for accessibility plus new content GOTY doesn't have, I genuinely cannot argue against this price tag. But if you want a cheaper price, so far it's been on discount during Steam sales and I bought the game at $15. All in all, Replanted nowadays is super worth it and the best way to play vanilla PvZ1! The game got (mostly) fixed, it's very accessible with exclusive content GOTY Edition doesn't have, and IMO at a reasonable price! If you ever feel like replaying PvZ1, you should try this one out!

We have 7 grandsons and 3 grandaughters and I purchased the game so that when they came over (which is very often) it would be something that we could play together. It was an excellent game and provided a lot of quality bonding time for all of us. Each child approached the game quite differently and it gave me a lot of insight into how they problem solved the many challenges in the game. Thank you to the very creative developers. I would highly reccomend this game to parents. S. Stephenson (retired teacher)

Ok so the game is not THAT bad. I love this series and have played multiple Pvz1 mods because I've beaten the original a solid dozen or so times. I even got 100% on the Xbox 360 edition, so I like to think I have a solid perspective on PvZ1. This release caused a huuge freakout. It would have not been nearly as bad if it weren't for the nasty combination of the Twitter mob and evidence of AI upscaling in the files. I think this has misled people to not judge the game on its actual merits. I thought to myself that after everyone has nitpicked the hell out of it and it had gone through some proper updates I would review it. I've played a ton of the launch patch as well, so I can confidently say: As much as many people would hate to agree with this, this IS the definitive way to play Plants vs. Zombies 1. The new art looks quite stunning in my opinion, even compared to the Xbox 360 version. especially after playing the original on a super high res monitor for ages. the ported versus mode and coop mode feel good, and I've had a good bit of fun playing locally with family and with a friend over remote play. Cloudy Day is satisfying to play, and while I wish R.I.P. mode did a little bit more, it does its job fine. All of the little easter eggs are very nice (The China level was awesome even if it was easier). I appreciated the bonus art and extra endless modes too. The biggest thing here is the QoL additions. fast forward and sun vacuum are amazing. Cheaper tree food is much appreciated. Proper controller support made playing on Steam Deck feel much better than the original game. Things you would only notice as a fan of the original game that made playing this feel pretty good. Pretty much every nitpick I had personally was patched out as well. Of course, I do wish the remaster did more. I want the Journey to the West content ported to a modern release as much as any PvZ nerd would. As for the myriad of controversies surrounding its release, that's up to you to formulate an opinion on. However, it gets the job done for what it sets out to do: bring PvZ1 to a newer generation of players while keeping the core of the game intact. It's pretty good, which is really what this series needs right now.

Now that they're properly fixed up this version, i'd say it's the "definitive" version of good o'l classic pvz, at least on pc. After all, you get proper fullscreen, some extra content and extra survival endlesses (endlessi?). BUT, i still do think that it's SEVERELY OVERPRICED for what it currently offers, only grab it if it's on sale, and i'm not talking about the current 20% sale, i'm talkin' about a 50% at LEAST.
