Since getting the last achievement I think it is the best time to review this game. What I like: - that new modes were added including Survival Endless Day, Night, Fog, and Roof. This also includes the limbo page mini games, RIP Mode, Vs mode and Coop mode. I like that these can easily be accessed in the game without relying on third party apps - multiplayer including local and Steam remote play - controller support including the Steam Deck - higher resolution graphics - widescreen support - hardcore (RIP) Mode - speed up button - glitches from original game are removed such as the infinite money trophy glitch - the Peashooter Christmas skin, he looks so cute! - the updates which make the game playable compared to its original state which was full of glitches such as being stuck in the Zen Garden when it unlocks and the retro zombie that could teleport to the house. What I don't like - unbalanced game play in Vs Mode since the zombies get too much sun compared to the Xbox edition of the game - the Sunshroom when fully grown in the Zen Garden is its small form rather than its fully grown size like in all other previous PvZ games which contain Zen Garden mode - using AI upscaling instead of the original artists to make all the sprites HD - lack of new mini games or not including all the mini games from all versions of PvZ where possible to make it the definitive edition - lack of challenge based multiplayer where players get matched to random opponents but I understand that maintaining a server for that is probably not viable due to cost - fake concept art rather than including concept art by the original artist, as an artist myself I find this disappointing - the Zen Garden plant drop RNG is terrible, it may just be bad luck on my end but it took so much longer to unlock all the Zen Garden plants, I had to take a break from this game for a while because I got bored, and this is hard to happen for me as a PvZ fan - lack of more costumes for the other plants and zombies - no HD Zombatar with more custom options than the GOTY edition - lack of more in depth behind the scenes content such as videos - no HD music video at the end of the game, instead putting the original video in a monitor - general lack of artists or designers with a passion for the franchise, I got the feeling that this game was rushed and not cared about as much as it could have been Would I recommend this game? Only if you want to try the new modes and play the multiplayer modes with friends. As someone who has played most versions of PvZ, I would rank the Xbox 360 version the highest out of all of them. I would also recommend PvZ Replanted for Switch users since it is the only way to get PvZ on there. I hope that this game helps new people get into the game since they may not have played the previous games so cannot compare them. I love this franchise and really want it to succeed. I am still hoping for a PvZ movie given how many video game related movies that have been released lately.
I am thrilled to have finished PvZ Replanted. Overall, it is a solid and satisfying game. However, I think a few additions could really improve the experience: 1. Quick Equip Feature: This is highly necessary. Instead of picking plants one by one for every level, it would be great to have a loadout system. For example, having 3 save slots for loadouts specific to the Day, Night, Pool, Fog, and Roof stages. As a speedrunner, picking plants manually really slows down the pace. 2. Zen Garden Navigation Icons: Please add specific icons to navigate the Zen Garden areas. Honestly, using the arrow buttons is a bit frustrating. I often double-click and accidentally skip my night plants, landing straight in the aquatic section. Replacing the arrows with four distinct icons (a sun for day, a moon for night, water drops for aquatic, and a tree) would be much better. 3. New Plants and Zombies: To be honest, I was a bit disappointed that Replanted did not introduce any new plants or zombies. It would be awesome to see monthly events or challenges to unlock new characters. Please just do not lock these additions behind paid DLC. 4. New Stages: Finally, I really want to see new stages. I am getting pretty bored with the standard Day, Night, Pool, Fog, and Roof setups. Please listen to the fans and deliver some fresh content to meet our expectations. 5. Dedicated Speed Buttons: Instead of having just one button to cycle through the game speed, it would be much better to have separate buttons for each speed option (1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5). This way, players will not have to click multiple times just to return to normal speed or to speed things up again. This feature would really help save time. I highly recommend this game if you have never played Plants vs Zombies before. But if you already own PvZ GOTY, you might want to think twice before buying. The content is nearly identical to the GOTY edition, with only a few minor new features.
I've finally achieved 100% of this game, so here's my most honest review of this port (and how it fares compared to the original GOTY PvZ1) s a hardcore PvZ franchise fan. (DISCLAIMER: opinion formulated while playing newest update 1.5.0 on PC this last month after playing release buggy Replanted on Switch 2, so I've seen everything that's happened with this game.) PROS: *After all the patches the game got post-release, IMO it's as extremely enjoyable as PvZ1 GOTY Edition thanks to (mostly everything) working as in the original while also having QoL improvements like native widescreen & keyboard shortcuts & speed-up button. It's a shame the game came out like **hot buggy inexcusable trash**, but nowadays I respect the devs for sticking by to fix the mess (mostly), and I defend it's completely playable and enjoyable. *Also love that they added extra yet optional content for players who want to go the extra mile, either from other PvZ1 ports (iOS achievements, Xbox PvP & Co-Op), cut content from the original (Survival Endless for all levels & accessible Limbo Page) or all-new content (Cloudy Day, R.I.P. Mode, China level easter egg, a couple of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥). They all feel like they belong to the game, and it doesn't clash with the original content. CONS: -There's still a bunch of small yet noticeable bugs that I just wish would get fixed with one final patch because they are HARD to ignore. -RIP Mode levels have this ugly jarring filter on your screen that alters colors in a way that looks awful. Real shame because I actually really like the purple lawn and sky they drew just for this mode. -They ruined the iconic credits by making the There's a Zombie on Your Lawn video barely visible, for some reason they added a 3D background of a room with a TV but the TV is so far away you can't see the animation much. ''CONTROVERSIAL TOPICS'' (?): ~To clarify, there's heavy claims that the HD graphics were made with AI: 1) The AI used during development was upscaling AI, something that's always existed waaay before genAI and that doesn't have the moral implications and environmental impact of genAI. 2) Upscaling sprites were only used as placeholders, and later human artists redrew all the graphics we see today. 3) When the game got leaked without the Day 1 patch, there were still some traces of the upscaled AI sprites that weren't meant to see the light. Currently, there's 0% of these upscaled graphics in the game, it's all either from the version they built on top of to make Replanted or new assets redrawn by humans manually. ~The fake concept art page........ It doesn't affect anything with the gameplay, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth that they lied about this... Not contacting OG developers is one thing I can understand, but straight-up lying about their original work??? And with such lazy lies fans called them out for??? Really sucked seeing the OG devs debunking this ''never-seen-before concept art'' gallery, man. ~Many people believe that charging 20 bucks for this game when the PvZ1 GOTY Edition is only 5 bucks on Steam is a rip-off. TBH IMO, $20 feels like a good price considering the current state of the gaming industry, and when listing all the good changes Replanted makes with all the QoL improvements allowing for accessibility plus new content GOTY doesn't have, I genuinely cannot argue against this price tag. But if you want a cheaper price, so far it's been on discount during Steam sales and I bought the game at $15. All in all, Replanted nowadays is super worth it and the best way to play vanilla PvZ1! The game got (mostly) fixed, it's very accessible with exclusive content GOTY Edition doesn't have, and IMO at a reasonable price! If you ever feel like replaying PvZ1, you should try this one out!
